That he wouldn't fight just added to the other teams frustration.
-
Good news!
-
I disagree. In his heyday, Maltby was every bit the agitator; he just was never as outspoken as Avery off the ice. I remember in the '98 conference finals against Dallas, Maltby got so far under Craig Ludwig's skin that he literally tried to choke him! Good times....
-
I wish he'd never left. If we could get him for the right price, I'd be all for it. This would be the perfect move, because teams would waste so much time chasing Avery around, they'd completely forget about taking runs at Lids, Z, and Dats. You know, kind of what Maltby used to do.

If this is true the Blue Jackets should publicly thank the guy. 1. The trade prevented them from overpaying for a guy who has little value to a fringe playoff team 2. They got a 1st round pick out of the deal
-
Actually, Kronwall looks good because he's set up 4 easy goals for his wingers in two games, while playing great D in his own end.
-
Now or never? As you stated he's only 24, plus he's still learning a new position and the North American style of game. Since both Quincey and Meech cannot be sent down anymore without clearing waivers, I'd say there's a real good chance of Ericsson playing another year in GR.
-
I think a bigger factor will be that he'll command too much money on the FA market for us.
-
I don't think Meech has much trade value, so I don't see him getting traded. Realistically, I think Quincey would be more likely to get traded if Lilja and Stuart were to re-sign. I do think Meech has the potential to be a fantastic defenseman for us, because his game is such a perfect fit for what we like to do. Also, I agree that he's better than Lebda right now, but I doubt he's going to move up the depth chart this year.
-
Lebda sits in my opinion.
-
It's on Mlive. BTW, the 4th round pick is in 2009. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...from_kings.html

I might agree with you if Hossa didn't have a history of disappearing in the playoffs or if there was a possibility of signing him to a cap-friendly deal. I wouldn't sweat too much losing Huds or Kopecky, but Smith and the 1st round pick would be hard to lose.
-
Yeah or like 97 when we ONLY picked up Larry Murphy. That sucked!
-
It solves two major problems. 1. It relegates Lebda to the bench 2. It keeps Sammy off the point on the PP
-
An equivalent trade for us might have been: 1. 2008 1st round pick 2. Brendan Smith 3. Hudler 4. Kopecky It's a lot to give up for someone you either are just renting or have to turn around a give $7 mill per for about 7 years.
-
As much as his bonehead plays kill me, I could see keeping Lilja, because he's a good penalty killer and he's our only experienced D-man with size. That said, I wouldn't sign him for anything above $1.5 per. However, I'm absolutely convinced that Lebda needs to go. Find someone to take him off our hands and let Quincey, Meech, or Ericsson (my preference) take his spot.

Just because someone's big, doesn't make them look impressive (think Max Kuznetsov). Usually, these big guys come up and look really awkward until they get their positing down. What's been most impressive to me about Ericcson is he hasn't looked awkward at all. He moves extremely well laterally, and his wingspan is very impressive. In fact, he reminds me of Pronger (no pressure) the way he moves so well for a big man.

I would say the Wings are very high on Kindl, and he's ahead of Meech, Stafford, and others on the overall organzational chart, but he's not performing better than them right now. They flirted with having him start the season in '06, but they surely would have sent him back to Kitchener after about 20 games. This is not that uncommon of a scnenario for top prospects, becuase it gives them an idea of how much work their game still needs to make it in the NHL.
-
1. Kindl did not nearly make the team. Unless there was an injury, they were never going to give up on Meech's rights unless Kindl was the second coming of Bobby Orr 2. Kindl is a -24, among the worst in the AHL, and has a whopping 13 points This is the right decision, because it shows the other Griffins that performance, not hype matters (Stafford has been much better than Kindl). If Kindl wants to make it to the NHL, he's going to have to improve his game.

You're frustrated and understandably so. When paired with a competent defensive partner, (I.E. not Lebda) Lilja does OK.
-
Never is a pretty strong word; have you ever seen the Lions play
-
See, I'd say Markov is a slight upgrade over Stuart (when healthy).
-
Whose spot is Tucker taking on the top 3 lines? I see him on the 4th line over Drake, but that's way too much to give up for a 4th liner.
-
Are you sure you were watching Lebda and not Lidstrom with that report? About the only thing that I would agree with your assessment is he skates really well. I also completely disagree that he fits the team mold better than Kronwall, and it's not even close. Kronwall is a better passer, hitter, and wins more battles for the puck. Lebda's a career #6/7 (read depth defenseman) at best.

He's a great 2-hole hitter, but I think you want Carbrerra to get that extra AB per game. Plus moving Polly to the 9th spot would help start rallies when the back of the lineup is due up.
