Agreed. Especially when you consider that right now Homer is a 1st line player who is also an anchor on the 1st team power play unit.
-
Sure. They can hang it right next to Maltby and Draper's jersey.
-
Yikes! Freak accident: Nothing much you can do or say about it, except that hopefully he recovers soon.

Visors are fine, but I do have a problem with players that wear them and still want to fight. In the past, this was considered unfathomable, because it’s a decided advantage for the player wearing the visor. As an opposing fighter, I’ve either have to risk cutting up my hand on your visor, or I have to get your helmet off before I can start throwing. For some reason, this now seems acceptable: Probably because so many players now wear them. However, IMO, If you want to fight, then don’t wear a visor.

What a game by Zetterberg tonight; he absolutely carried us. He's entered into a zone right now that I've only seen two Wings reach. Yzerman (basically the entire 88-89 season) and Federov's 25 game stretch during the 93-94 season.

This would make no sense. Outside of Center, Defense is the deepest position on the team. In addition, there are four D prospects that have legitimate shots at making the team over the next couple years. I think you can write this rumor off.

Good deal for both sides. Phoenix retains the face of the franchise (and one of the only true power forwards) for a reasonable sum. Doan gets stability and the chance to become one of the rare players who plays his entire career in one city.

MLive: Forsberg talk heats up, deal "in days"?
Airborn replied to Howe's Bony Elbow's topic in General
My guess is somebody is going to pay way too much for Foppa, and I hope it isn't us. If Forsberg were the player from 6 or 7 years age (you know when he could play for 5 games without injuring himself) he would have been worth this ransom. Also, if this report is accurate, what the hell is Philly waiting for. I'd make the deal before these GMs come to their senses. -
MLive: Forsberg talk heats up, deal "in days"?
Airborn replied to Howe's Bony Elbow's topic in General
That's an awful big gamble for a guy like Forsberg, who is not likely to stay healthy over the course of the playoffs. My only problem with the Nashville rumour is, will Forsberg waive his no trade clause to play there? In all the reports I've read, Nashville wasn't a team he was willing to go to. This could be an attempt by Nashville to raise up the cost of Forsberg, since they know the Wings are interested. Either way, if I'm Holland, I don't go anywhere near this asking price. -

According to this report the Flyers asking price is two 1st round picks and a prospect. I don't see anybody paying that price, although Forsberg would be worth it if you could guarantee his health, and sign him to a long-term deal. The kicker is the injury problems. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/weblog/index..._02.html#236639 -
Apparently, this deal gets even better for the Flames. If they are unable to sign Stuart to a deal, Boston will surrender its 2008 1st round draft pick to Calgary. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...324/1004/SPORTS Did Chiarelli go to the Mike Keenan school of trading in the offseason or something? Isn't the whole point of dumping players to pick up draft picks?

I agree 100%. Major run a Datsuk, nothing. Guy flies into the goalie, nothing. Major cheap shot on Z, nothing. I don't think this is a problem that one or two guys can fix. There is no semblance of anyone sticking up for one another. I can see the no reaction if it was a tight game, and players were just being diciplined, but the game was already decided. Am I the only one who is secretely hoping the Wings don't win the division? After all, I think it's abundantly clear that the regular season seedings mean squat once the playoffs start. I'd rather let Nashville take on the pressure of the #1 seed and stay under the radar.

Here is an article on TSN that states the Wings have interest. Two points stuck out to me. 1. Bertuzzi needs to show he's healthy enough to contribute 2. The Panthers asking price might not be be too steep because of Bertuzzi's limited playing time this year (my guess is 1st rounder and mid-level prospect) http://www.tsn.ca/tsn_talent/columnists/darren_dreger/

Calgary just completed a trade with Boston that sent Ferrence and Kobasew to the Bruins for Primeau and Stuart. I like this trade a lot for Calgary. They absolutely have the best D in the league now, and Premeau will be a solid addition too. At this point, Calgary will be very tough to knock off in the playoffs.

Let's just pray this doesn't turn into one of those crazy "Hasek Injuries" where 2 days, turns into 2 weeks, that turns into 2 months, that turns into the rest of the year.

I think a lot of people on this thread have become seriously spoiled watching Lids, Chelios, Vladdy, and others over the years. You have to give a guy some time to develop. Did you seriously believe he was going to dominate in his 1st full year in action? Kronwall is definitely not overrated, he's just young and learning the ropes.
-
Well said - the fact is they don't exist, because no team is eager to trade a top-notch defensive prospect, because they are too hard to come by. If Holland were seriously interested in dealing Kronwall, he'd probably get a call from just about any GM looking to dump players at the deadline (and probably some who weren't).
-
The Selke is a weird award. It's supposed to be the best defensive forward, but it recently has changed to a good offensive player who happens to also be good in his own end. I'm sure Hank will have a good shot a winning, especially with the recent praise from Gretsky.
-
While I agree that Kronwall hasn't been "special", his game has been solid. Also, remember top flight defenseman are now earning 7-8 million so his contract isn't that out of whack with his game. Also, I would avoid making a rash decision on a kid that hasn't played more than a 100 games. Defensemen take longer to develop than forwards.

Here is an exerpt from Ansar Khan's article on MLIVE, which has Holland talking about the Wing's alleged interest in Bertuzzi: "... Wings general manager Ken Holland wouldn’t comment specifically on a TSN report that stated his club is interested in acquiring Florida power forward Todd Bertuzzi before the Feb. 27 trading deadline, except to say he is investigating all possibilities, as do all GMs who are looking to deal this time of year. “I’ve talked to most teams in the league just to find out what they’re doing. I’m not talking to anybody specifically about any players,†Holland said. “What most teams are telling me is they want to wait until they get close to the deadline. They want to see what direction they’re going and then they’re going to make an assessment.†http://www.mlive.com/redwings/stories/inde....xml&coll=1 According to the Free Press, Holland is more interested in aquiring Forsberg, who is said to only be willing to waive his no trade clause for 3 teams (Detroit, Anaheim, and Montreal). http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...1048/BUSINESS05 Personally, I don't think Forsberg is a good fit for the Wings, and the talk of signing him to a free agent contract after this season really conserns me. This guy is always going to have health problems, and it's only going to get worse with age.
-
I agree that it's doubtful that anyone is is interested in Williams. Possibly Hudler. As for the salary, we would only be on the hook for his prorated salary (what he's owed until the end of the year), so it's definitely doable. Bertuzzi is a free agent at the end of the year, so no long-term commitment is required. Any major deadline rental move is a major gamble that really only works for one team (the one that wins the cup). We definitely need a Betuzzi like player, and I don't see a better option out there unless Phoenix would move Doan. We'll have to see.
-
I'm in agreement with the consensus on this one. Even if the Wings did want to make this move, what could they offer to the Rangers to make them consider trading Montoya? I don't believe they could swing this deal without giving up Datsuk, Zetterberg, or Kronwall. I don't see that happening.
-
To me, Biron makes the most sense of all the available goaltenders. 1. Nabokov, Khabibulin, and Gigure don't fit into the Wings payroll 2. Montoya is little better than Howard when it comes to experience. Plus why would the Rangers want to trade him now, unless they got something significant back? 3. Hasek and Belfour are way to big of risks from an injury standpoint 4. Cloutier and others available would certainly not be an upgrade over Osgood
