Burke wants GM's to be able to accumulate dead money

I don't get where this would inspire bigger contracts or benefit higher revenue teams at all. Each team would still have their cap number, they would just now have the opportunity to eat some salary in a trade that would count against their cap.

    Babcock seeks scoring balance

I'd like to see Flip and Huds given more prominent roles, as I believe they could provide a solid second scoring line. I'd also rather see the Z-Dats-Homer line left together.

    Makes sence to me.

    2007 Baseball Season

The 2007 Tigers have many quirks (or faults if you want to be negative). One of them is that after scoring early, they stop having good at bats, and rarely do they ever tack on insurance runs. Today that bit them in the ass big time. The bullpen has actually been good lately, so I suppose we were due for a collapse. All in all, Jones has been pretty good lately, as has Rodney, both of whom equally sucked today. One more thing, it figures this would happen in a Robertson start. He could throw a perfect game and we'd find a way to lose it. Bad things always seem to happen when he's pitching.

    2007 College Football Season Talk

I agree with whoever said Carr wouldn't be fired midseason. That would only happen if he did something, "off the field" like Moeller. Jumping ahead to 08, if Martin replaces Carr with either Debord or English, that will be an absolute joke. There's dozens of more qualfied coaches that would jump for the chance to take over a program like Michigan. I hate Carr's idea that someone from his staff should take over. That reeks of nepotism, and will only strive to continue cycle of mediocrity if Martin doesn't have the balls to putt his foot down.

I'm not upset about Michigan's loss for two reasons. 1. I didn't get to watch the game, which saved me the agony of the blank look on Carr's face as he inevitably screwed up in a close game (Thank You Big Ten Network!) 2. This should help us finally get rid of Carr I'd love to hear the Carr sympathizers argument now. Let's see, he can't beat his arch rival, he can't win a bowl game, and now he can't even beat a 1-AA opponent (even if they are a good one, that's still ridiculous). It's not like any true Michigan fan that's remotely realistic really expected them to beat Ohio State and win the National Championship. That will never happen under Carr. Trust me, it's better this way.

Once again the Tigers do all the little things wrong and find a way to lose. Thames can't get a runner home from 3rd with one out in the 8th. Then Timo Perez quadruple clutches, sings his ABCs, and dances the hokey pokey before finally deciding to throw to 2nd on the eventual winning run. If he had done anything other than what he did, Piazza was a dead duck at 2nd. Of course, I'm sure if you're like me, you're wondering what the hell Perez and Thames are even doing in the game, considering we're about on our last life here. The answer; nobody has a damn clue. Apparently, we can't find room for a guy hitting 330 (Raburn) in our struggling offense. I don't blame Leyland, I'd much rather watch Thames strike out 3 times a night, than watch Raburn consistently produce.

That is the funniest thing I've ever seen. My favorite is the, "told you so" comment by Jim Harbaugh. Classic.

I think Leyland must be on crack; he's got Perez batting 3rd tonight. Bannister has the 6th best E.R.A in the league, and we have a minor leaguer in our 3-hole. Are we trying to win with a degree of difficulty or something? Edit: Perez left 6 men on base tonight. Not good managing by Leyland.

Hey, I thought you rooted for Bertuzzi Normally, I wouldn't want Bonds either, but all I care about now is winning. If it took Bonds to do that, I'd happily support him. I've loved Sheff, even with all the crazy comments. Before his injury, he was as good as it gets and completely changed the complection of our lineup. With a healthy Sheff, we had the best lineup in baseball 1-5. 16-0 Tigers. Boy it's nice to have a game like this.

Of the guys that have cleared waivers, I think Piazza makes the most sense. Actually Barry Bonds would probably be the closest thing to Sheff, but I don't think SF would trade him for anything less than a kings ranson. Then you have to add the fact that you're dealing with the Barry circus that follows him.

Another Bonderman collapse, 7-2 Yankees. Can we just hire a full time shrink already! I suppose it would've been too much to hope for to see the guys come out and play consecutive good ballgames. Maybe someday it will happen.

    2007 Baseball Season

Just finshed watching the game, and man this is the most excited I've been for a Tiger's victory since the 2nd half began. JJ was excellent. He threw 17 of 21 first pitch strikes; now that's what I'm talking about! See (rest of Tigers pitching staff) what happens when you consistently get ahead of hitters. Zumaya to Rodney to Jones was a thing of beauty.

    2007 Baseball Season

I'm glad Zumaya's back, but realistically he can't help us unless the starters do their job. If we are going to get back on track, we need better starting pitching! Leyland needs to pull Chuck Hernandez and the starter pitchers together and tell them to throw strikes and challenge hitters or else. If they hit you, then they hit you, but we're getting KILLED by walks and high pitch counts. If I had a dollar for every walk that ended up scoring lately, I could probably put a nice down payment on a house. Also, we can't expect the bullpen to go 4 or 5 innings every night and still be effective. This 100 to 120 pitches in 5 or 6 innings has got to stop! If we don't make the playoffs, Chuck Hernandez should be immediately fired! Nobody has done less with more, and I'm including Craig Monroe in that group.

It's times like these that make being a baseball fan so hard. We have so much talent on this team, yet because of injuries or guys slumping we are literally one of the worst teams in baseball since the all star break. It's hard to figure this game out sometimes.

Inge strikes out in a big situation in the 2nd inning. I hate to sound like such a pessimist, but we really need some guys to step their games up or we mind as well forget about the postseason. Make that the 4th inning as well. Inge is single handedly killing us right now! Now add an error to Brandon's impressive day.

    2007 Baseball Season

BTW, Polanco is out again today. It's too bad, we could really use his bat. When Polanco comes back, I'd consider playing Raburn over Inge when we need offence. You know, like every game with our current pitching woes

    2007 Baseball Season

Any guesses on which Bonderman we get today? It'd be nice to see a Tigers starting pitcher make it through the 6th inning. Of course with Bonderman anymore, you just have to pray he makes it past the first.
  22. Airborn

    2007 Baseball Season

Verlander's only through 3 innings and he's already thrown 76 piches. I think there's something wrong with him; his fastball seems to be topping out at 92 or 93 mph. A lot of times he's in the low 90s. This from a guy who usually throws 96-98. I think if we weren't already so messed up with our starting pitching, Leyland would sit him for a couple weeks.

    2007 Baseball Season

Despite the loss last night, I was really impressed with Jurrjens. He had a good fastball (92-95 with some good late movement), but what impressed me most was his control. If he can keep that up and develop his offspeed stuff, he's going to be a really good pitcher in the big leagues. I was way more impressed with him than either Tata or Vasquez. I agree with Leyland in that he could be a good bullpen addition for this year. I think he should start next year in the AAA to work on his offspeed stuff though. He'll be a better pitcher later if he does.
  24. Airborn

    2007 Baseball Season

Tonight's game is about as important as it gets. If we don't win tonight, we have Jurrjens going against Carmona in game two. I don't like those odds, and that would put us two games behind going into a series with the hottest team on the planet. God our starting pitching is mess right now! Speaking of that, have you ever experienced anyone as tantalizingly frustrating as Jeremy Bonderman. Every time you think he's ready to become an ace, he'll have a stretch like the one he's in now, where he not only sucks, he sucks to the point that you wish anybody other than him was pitching. Well anyone other than Jason Grilli

    2007 Baseball Season

That's what the Tigers seem to be doing -- totally collapsing. They've lost six of the first eight games on this homestand and 16 of 22 since they left Minnesota after sweeping the Twins in a three-game series last month. Blame the pitching. In those 22 games, Tiger starters are 1-12 with a 7.71 ERA. The bullpen (5.13 ERA, 5-for-10 in save situations) hasn't been good, either. The 16 runs lifted the Tigers' team ERA since the All-Star break to a horrendous 5.87. How bad is that? Well, entering play Friday it would have ranked 29th in all of baseball, ahead of only Tampa Bay.
