Seems fair to me.

Great comeback. If we win this series, we'll look back to today as the turning point. I never thought I'd see the day where this sentence was uttered, but Dan Cleary is our best forward right now. Crazy world we live in! In all seriousness, I think we turned this game around when we started hitting. That seemed to soften up San Jose and get us more into the game. We also did a much better job of driving to the net, not settling for outside shots.

OMG - that last minute was awesome. The last time I saw the Joe rocking that hard was game 7 against Colorado in '02.
-
I like Hull, but he's way off base on this one. If Cheechoo takes the puck (like Franzen thought he was going to do) then it would have been a legal hit. How is that a cheap shot?
-
The big difference in this game was our hitting and physical play. We didn't do it in game 1; we did it in game 2 in a big way.

Wow - I can't remember going from such an extreme low to an extreme high.

Good argument, but here's why I think WR is an overvalued position. First, no matter how good the WR - they are slaves to the QB, offensive line, and the system as a whole. Just look at Randy Moss in Oakland. He's a top 5 player at his position, but he's completely worthless because the other components aren't there, whereas a QB like Peyton Manning would at least make them decent. Second, even the great WRs only touch the ball 8-10 times a game. A quarterback touches it every offensive play. A running back 20-25 times. Even offensive linemen have an impact every play. Finally, good WRs can be found in the later rounds much easier than other positions. Two examples of this are Marcues Colston and Mike Furrey who both went undrafted, yet they were 2 of the best WRs last year. When is the last time you saw a stud Defensive or Offensive Linemen undrafted? I look at WRs as a dessert. It's something that should be enjoyed after the meal is finished. The Lions need impact players just about everywhere on their team, except WR where they already have 2. Taking a WR will help this team very little, even if that guy is a stud.

I'll be happy if we get Russell, Adams, or Willis. I don't want to end up with Leon Hall or Calvin Johnson. As for Hall, I watched him his entire carreer at UM; He's good, not elite. As for Johnson, he may be the best player, but I don't think he'll help the Lions win more games. We need a lot of help on defense, and we already have 2 good wide receivers. Besides, WRs have a minimal impact on the game anyway. I can't believe the Raiders are honestly thinking of passing on Russell. We better not pass on him, if he's there. If that happens, Millen should be immediately fired. A quarterback with Russell's skills comes along once every decade.

Regarding the PP, we need to try some different approaches other than get the puck to the point and shoot into the traffic. Case and point - the play where Lids snuck down, and Scheids passed/shot the puck to him for the one-timer. Had that been on net, it was a goal. Right now, we're too predictable, and it's making it easy for the PK unit to defend us.

Very funny! Rod is the man!

I came across this clip of Rod Allen (Tigers Color commentator). The clip is from when he was playing ball in Japan; I'd try to describe more, but you just have to watch. One of the craziest things I've ever seen.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw8iF9Zxaz0

Best thing about round 2, playing an AMERICAN team.

Games 3,4, and 5 were not called both ways (IMO), which is why people are still griping. Games 3 and 4 were basically handed to Calgary with some of the worst reffing I've seen. Game 5 was equally s***ty (calling back the goal, missing the sucker punch, etc...) but we overcame it. Game 6 had bad calls, but they went both ways, so I'm fine with it. Edit: I think there are reasons for this, such as Dom's reputation (probably earned) as being a diver, and Babcock's reluntance to call out officials, but it's still an indictment on the officials. -
I saw this and had basically the same reaction. Parker is one of a growing breed of sportswriters who write for "shock" value. They do nothing to make sports more fun to watch or pay attention to (which is silly because isn't that the whole point), rather they write simply to get a response out of you. I don't know what to do other than to ignore everything he writes, but occasionally I get suckered in as I did on this occasion.

Friesen looks stunned.

Franzen's playoff line, so far 6 games 2 goals 3 assists + 7 1 near lobotomy Now that's a series!
-
Lilja definitely gets the nod. He was fantastic all series long. Who would have thought? Maybe Kronwall going down was a blessing in disguise.
-
He made it a series. Also, he was one of the rare Flames that represented himself with some class. Too bad goalies can't wear the C.
-
That's what makes this win so sweet. Not only did we get them back for all that bulls**t in game 5, we go 'em back for '04. Also, no matter what, we can put away the notion that this team isn't tough or gritty enough. I believe we outhit the big, bad Flames for the series. Who's soft now Huselius?
-
You're exaggerating a little. He had one bad play; the one where he turned it over in our zone trying to beat 3 guys. Other than that, he played good.
-
Good catch. I've been screaming for Babcock to replace him, but he busted his ass on the backcheck to break up that scoring chance for Calgary. Also, he almost netted the game winner in the 1st OT.

My 3 Red Wings stars for the series: 1. Franzen 2. Lidstrom 3. Cleary

Amen!

To Jarome and the rest of the Flames; if you're wondering what that ringing in your ears is, it's the sweet sound of karma. Edit: Pretty interesting who scored the goal ,eh.
-
Starting with game 3 the wings have had 2 opponents The flames and the referees. The officials managed to give calgary both wins at home wotj bulls*** calls and 5 on 3s thus allowing calgary to score some goals, but their efforts went down in game 4 due to the wings two short handed goals and their better PK play. I think the same thing is going to happen tonight---the officials are going to be calling the wings for everything and letting calgary get away with everything because the league wants a canadian team in the finals---2 would be bettter )tttawa and calgary or vancouver and they are going to do what they can to make that happen It is BS that the calgary player didn't get suspended for the sucker punch to Lebda---I rember when Dino got suspended for a sucker punch and it wasn't called in the game---the league handed it down after the fact. Anyway the wings have their work cut out for them tonight---their PK better be good because they will be on PK most of the game

The Flames are in deep s***. - The Wings always play better after teams try to goon it up against them - Z has found his game, and Dats looked pretty good yesterday too - The quick turnaround cleary benefits us - Special teams are back in order after failing us in games 3 and 4 Calgary hasn't done anything 5 on 5 all series, and I don't look for that trend to change. Also, I expect to see Z and Dats put on another performance, and we finish the Flames in a big way. P.S. Expect after the game to hear lots of whining from Iginla and the Flames about how the big, bad Red Wings cheated by bumping their goaltender all series. I agree. It wouldn't surprise me if the Flames didn't. Just look at whose leading them. Not much class over there.
