Here's a good one, slightly easier perhaps. I managed 94/99 http://www.sporcle.com/games/psinclair7/nhlplayoff

It'll definitely be interesting to see how goes where, but personally, I wouldn't expect us to sign more than 1D man right now, possibly a forward such as Iginla too if there's mutual interest.

Find me another 30+ goalscorer in this league who's signed since Franzen signed that contract that makes $4m or less (not counting entry level contracts). Weiss will be back this year with vengeance Ericsson is a good, solid, stay at home D man who fits nicely within our top 4. And by the looks of things, we're possibly going to sign another guys who's a top 4 d man for $5-6million. $4m sounds like a bargain to me. I don't know whether we aren't. It's just the fact that now, there's a hell of a lot more teams that have a legitimate shot at the cup. How many teams really had a shot at the cup back in 02 before we got Hasek, Robitaille, Hull, Duchesne and co? About 3-4? Now, you could argue at least 10, possibly more.

I've always quite liked the Orca logo. And the current canucks jerseys I'm a fan of.

Alfie informs Wings he wants to return
wings4thecup06 replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
Agreed. I think he's going to start in GR no matter how well his preseason performance goes. He'll probably be with the wings by Christmas though, but I think personally it might be better to bring him along slowly at first and if he starts tearing up GR then all the better. It'll further increase his confidence -
Actually, I really like the look of that. Sweet jersey! (it's still the Ducks though…)
-
I was kind of joking tbh, although part of me would love to see KH and co go with 2 kids on the 3rd pairing. It would be entertaining to say the least
-
How about Sproul and Marchenko instead??
-
Yea either one of Niskanen or Ehrhoff will be just fine, but not both. Logistically for cap room, and also for clogging up the way for our D guys who are nearly ready. If it were me I'd actually be tempted just to stick both Ouellet and Sproul on the 3rd pairing to start the year.
-
That's probably right up there with the Islanders 3rd (now retired) from last year for single worst jersey, but for worst jersey set I think these Ducks ones are pretty horrific.

I don't think we should trade away Ericsson. Guy has size and is solid and stable on the back end. He's got a decent enough salary, and same goes for Franzen. Don't want to turn this into another Franzen bashing thread, but we're not going to replace his size and production for that kind of cap number. Not going to happen. I don't think we'll have room for both Niskanen and Ehrhoff. We'll hopefully get one though. Forwards aren't' the priority now on this team, D is. And I think we'll have an outside shot at Iginla, so may as well trade Kindl for a pick or two if we can.
-
Well don't worry, in about 48 hours we'll know everything
-
Same. I won't go postal if Cleary's re-signed, as long as it's a two way deal.
-
Such a smart move getting rid of Avery when we did...
-
Yea I spent ages trying to get his name right, then gave up. At the end he was there, I was pretty pissed!
-
Right up with Carolina IMO. Doesn't help that I hate the Ducks….
-
Totally not needed though IMO. They'll both want long contracts - 5yrs min I reckon, which means it'll block one of our young D men coming up right now - because sod's law we won't be able to move Kindl and his ugly contract. This was my first thought too - this is totally excellent news for the D man market and for us! And even if Ehrhoff doesn't want to come to Detroit, it'll give us some bargaining power over Niskanen.
-
The problem, I think, is if we do end up signing Niskanen, or now possibly Ehrhoff, what the **** do we do with Kindl? Stick him on the 3rd pairing? I doubt many GMs are going to want to eat his salary after the season he just had, but I maybe wrong. Could we trade him to Florida for a bag of pucks so they can get to the floor? I think what might happen if he does stick around is that our 3rd D pairing will likely be a rotation of Kindl/Lashoff and whichever kid makes it from GR - most likely to be Ouellet. I think I'd rather have Ouellet and Sproul with Lashoff rotating in tbh
-
Iginla would be a great add IMO, plays physical, hard and puts the puck in the net. Age isn't' a concern for him I don't think and he's still got good speed. If you think about it this way, putting Iginla on the top line with D/Z and having a second unit of Gus/Weiss/Franzen, by keeping the kids together on the third line they grow as a unit, still get a decent amount of ice time, but it'll be ice time against non-top lines, meaning they might be able to dominate a bit more as they grow. Personally, I don't see such an issue - Sheahan/Jurco/Tatar pretty much has everything you could want in a forward unit, so let's let them grow at the right pace?

See I don't even think that we do need a fresh approach at GM. I think this is actually been the plan all along possibly, since about 2011. We didn't get Suter, and we drafted 4 defensemen who could be the cornerstones of our blue line for years to come in that draft and by that point we had guys like Nyquist, Tatar and co rising through the system. KH knew the way to get back to the top after losing Lids and Rafalski and missing out on Suter wasn't to trade the future for now now now, it was to quietly build up the prospects we had into great NHL players who could then step in when they were ready and compliment a solid core. In the meantime, he patched up the holes with depth players to keep us competitive so that if/when the kids came in, they'd be entered into a winning environment. This is my theory that I'm going with here. I reckon they saw that they had some really good kids down the road in 2 years or so that might be able to have an impact, so they're simply sticking with the plan. Which is also why I don't think they'll make a big trade for that number 1 D man. They don't need it. Sproul, Ouellet and Marchenko will fill the void either this season or next, so why give up assets for a short term benefit that really isn't going to get you a cup, when you could have a much better blue line in 3 years? It really is all about the long game here, and I think we'll be pretty happy with the results when it comes to fruition.

Dylan Larkin - Highest draft pick since 1991
wings4thecup06 replied to RedWingsPlug's topic in General
Yea we're probably looking at 2 years at least under Red's wing (no pun intended). BUt that will only be a good thing for him and for us -
Came up short with 32, kicking myself on a couple of them. Great idea though. Here's a good one: 60+ goal seasons http://www.sporcle.com/games/kmad/60goals Got 35/39 on this one, faired a little better

I'm agreeing with everyone except there's an elephant in the room in your list…... Lang??? Don't get me wrong, he played alright, but I didn't think he was anything special.

Maybe Murray thought Spezza would accept once there was a deal in place, regardless of the team? But yes, it does sound like Murray ran to the media a bit here. I think we're beginning to find out a bit more about why top players like Alfie, Heatley (at the time) and now Spezza want out...

Don't worry. Weiss will turn it around. And if he doesn't, well I'm sure it'll sort itself out.
