What would everyone want to see happen elsewhere? I'm torn between the Leafs and Caps - A leafs win pushes them further away from us, but prevents Washington passing us. Whereas a Caps win helps them hop over us, but keeps the leafs in reach (currently 3-0 washington) SJ - NYR - Needing SJ to win this in regulation If Buffalo could upset Montreal that would be a great help, and Colorado beating Ottawa would keep the Sens out of contention (the less teams battling for that number 8 spot the better IMO) Obviously, it goes without saying that all of these things comes second to the Wings taking care of things tonight in Chicago, which will not be easy. Still, all this scoreboard watching is both interesting and nerve wracking. I think us Wings fans maybe got a little spoilt at not having to 'care' so to speak at this time of year, and just waiting for the playoffs to begin.

    3/16 around the NHL

Exactly this. Consistency is essential for us just even hang in there. Its definitely doable, just gotta get on a roll and survive this week

    3/16 around the NHL

Hmm, Caps just beat the leafs, things just got more interesting! 3 games in hand now on TO, Leafs 80 pts, Wings 73, with 2 games left between the teams. I would say that's doable.

3/16 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Blackhawks 4

You know, I don't think a win is out of the question, but really do we think that 2 points is the only thing to play for here? (go ahead and feel free to lay in to me here…) What I am referring to is a momentum builder for the wings, where even if they don't get the full 2 points, they play really good competitive hockey and take it to the Hawks? I really really really think we need 2 points, but this team has struggled so much with consistency. The least we can hope for is a good bounce back effort after a lacklustre game vs the Oil. Edit: Loving the 4 captains in the graphic btw.

    Finally-TooToo called up

Yea and I think every time I"ve seen him out there on the ice, he's always full of energy and got a ton of jump. We could use that, and especially a big hit or two to make the Hawks D think about it when they've got the puck in their own end.

    Finally-TooToo called up

I don't know, with a guy like him it's possible to make an impact with 6-7 minutes ice time. IMO Pulkkinen made a positive impact last night, and he only played 7:36….

    3/14 GDT : Edmonton Oilers 1 at Red Wings 2 (F/SO)

I agree with you about the power play - I don't think I've seen it look that bad in quite some time, and they sorely just look lost without either Z or Pav out there. And once they finally managed to gain entry, it was all perimeter, virtually nothing down low, no one driving the net to draw the D in so they open up those point shots. I think it could have been 5 on 3 and they still wouldn't have scored. Something obviously to work on. That said, I'm glad Pulkkinen got a chance on the 2nd unit, especially on the later ones where he unleashed the couple of slappers, one of which nearly led to Sheahan tapping it in on the rebound. I will disagree with you however on the shootout choices. Bert has been historically good in the shootout (in 11-12 was 50%), and while he's only gone 1 for 7 this year, that 1 was a biggy - January win vs the Hawks. Alfie too, I thought was a good choice - (5 for 6 in 11-12) and has popped in a couple this year. No one expected Alfie to deke, if you did then ok but I haven't seen him deke all year. He's a pure shooter. And I thought he had a really solid game, he was definitely noticeable, and was winning puck battles, retrieving pucks and creating chances. There was a shift 4 minutes into the 2nd where his entire line kept the puck in the Oilers zone for the entire shift. While it is easy to sit here and say Tatar was the only one who had a shot of scoring (now that he was the only one), everyone else had a great shot at doing so. Even Tatar screws it up sometimes - see Winter classic. The shootout is essentially a gamble anyways, but I had no qualms with Babs putting the guys out that he did. Bottom line = win.

Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

I have to disagree. What would have happened if we had got Amac for that? Then Andersson still goes down, we don't even have a number one/two centre anymore. Bye bye playoffs. This way, we're still in contention, and, we can get Legwand re-signed then this deal looks all the better. Plus, what's not to say that Amac was looking for his big payday on the free agent market? Everyone finally knows who he is and what he can do, and there's not a lot out there defensive wise. If he walked, then we've just given up a legitimate prospect and a first, all for what? 2 months of better D. This way, if we re-sign Legwand, we get better depth up front now and moving forward.

Red Wings have Recalled Pulkkinen from Grand Rapids

    Pulu apparently….

2 points tonight is a must!

Alfie on the 3rd line (as he's been for the last little while, playing with guys who have little offensive tendencies) makes me wonder if he's hurting a little, but at this stage, if he sat it out, it might be dead and buried for this team playoff wise. Or maybe he's just slumping and Babs doesn't want to put too much pressure on him by playing him against the top lines of everyone else

2 points tonight is a must!

This next week is make or break IMO, what with the Hawks sunday, the Leafs tuesday and the Penguins thursday. I hate to say it, but if we don't' do well this week it might be pretty ominous from here on out. N.B. I have been and still am extremely optimistic about this team, but the wings really need to take care of their own here.

Red Wings have Recalled Pulkkinen from Grand Rapids

Alfie's slapper has looked really good at time this year, but yea would love to see Pulkkinen unleash it tonight. Cannot wait. Plus the Oilers got spanked last night so that may help…..
  13. Most important game of the night IMO is the Columbus/SJ game. Other than that, it would obviously be great if both the Rangers and Lightning lost. Seems that trade hasn't worked out too well for either yet. How has Stamkos looked since his return? Lost without MSL? Lotta respect for #91. Also would like to see the Hurricanes lose. Although they look out of reach right now, one hot streak and they're making this a 5 team race instead of 4

What would it take a get Shea Weber?

Red Wings have Recalled Pulkkinen from Grand Rapids

Frankly, I'm just excited to see what he's got. I'm hoping he plays well enough in the first to get a promotion to another line. We shall see, but here's hoping the Oilers take a few penalties in the first. Anyone know what number he's wearing? Scratch that... looks like number 56 according to Ansar

    Injury Updates

Yea I definitely want to see what he's made of. After all a guy doesn't get that kind of contract for nothing. I'm willing to be patient

UFA/RFA Re-Signing, What Does Everyone Get?

Alfie, while he has been slumping a bit recently, is a guy who I would take back in a heartbeat. Solid veteran presence, battles hard along the boards for the puck, not afraid to get involved physically, still skates really well and has a terrific shot. At the right price there is no reason NOT to bring him back IMO. I'm all for bringing the kids up, but at least let them take roster spots that actually benefit the team - clearly, bert etc.

    Injury Updates

Yea and if he does miss the remainder of the year, he'll have virtually no value going into the offseason, meaning the Wings will have to play him next season regardless. That said, I don't think the organisation would trade him whatever happens this year.

Red Wings have Recalled Pulkkinen from Grand Rapids

Interesting to see if Pulkkinen plays well, what happens to him when Jurco comes back. Tuzzi might take a seat?

Was good to see Smitty get right back up and show some emotion, even if it did cost us an extra 2 minutes on that PP

    Detroit D performance

Am I the only one who doesn't want a part of Erhoff because of the 10 year contract, AAV $4? And it's going to take alot to get Edler I reckon, based on this years deadline.

3/11 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Blue Jackets 4

That guy was supposed to be Tootoo no? And look what's happened to him, buried in GR for mostly all the season. Fact is, things won't change any time soon IMO. But realistically, should they? When everyone gets healthy, and you put the lines together, we've got a really good strong forward group. I think what we've seen this year is not only the toll the injuries have taken but also how that has really affected chemistry within the group. It's hard when you've got guys coming back constantly off injury and they're not fully at 100% or close to it. The other thing is that this team has been playing well (with the exception of the Rangers game), and they' just haven't had the mustard to either close it out offensively, or play the full 60 minutes. But that is to be expected when you've got young guys and half the veterans are out. I'm still optimistic, but we're going to need some luck.

3/11 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Blue Jackets 4

Same, been keeping my eye out constantly. That was a pretty depressing game, especially considering how well the wings played in the first. And now Jurco with a possible rib problem from the jackass (Comeau) who should have been thrown out of the game for his hit on Smitty in the first place. Can anything else go wrong with this team? It truly is so frustrating to watch, as when healthy this team would be a playoff shoe in. Maybe they'll recall Pulkkinen if Jurco can't go friday.

Mrazek has played really well thus far, especially against the Ducks. i agree, it's somehow comforting to see him back there.

    Yzerman's contract up after 2015

Only if he brings Stamkos with him….. Seriously though, I don't think KH is going to hang them up for a while yet
