Good call on Pyatt, I think he's exactly what we need.
-
I'm thinking 6th seed, second in the division. Also, I'm thinking two 30+ goal scorers tops.
-
If you've been keeping up with the news moron you would have seen that there had been NO indication that Holland was looking to sign a free agent after re-signing Hudler. Everyone could only wait and speculate. In fact, all signs were pointing to Abdelkader taking the roster spot, instead of signing someone. With this news, it provides a bit of reassurance to some of us that Holland IS in fact searching to sign someone.
-
Agreed 100%. People simply have unrealistic expectations that all our new kids will instantly become 20+ goal scorers next season and our aging veterans will have a superb rebound year. Hah, doubt it. We need to somehow (its Kenny) pick up a 2nd/3rd line BIG forward and try to sign a 4th line grit guy for cheap. Other wise, we looked pretty boned next season.
-
If Abdelkader makes the team and fails hard, I'm gonna redirect all fo you to this freakin thread.

I think it's a great trade for the Kings. They needed that offensive marquee player and finally got one.
-
Oh god not Calder.

:puke:

I hope you're right. If these guys don't score 20 goals each, its gonna hurt. It's just hard to imagine someone who scored 15 goals in the minors score more than 20 in his first season in the big leagues.

Please understand I'm not trying to sound like a dick, just merely realistic. If I had to make some positive assumptions on just a FEW aspects of our season next year, that'd be fine. The problem is, you guys are assuming EVERYTHING. You assume that Leino we'll be great, you assume that Helm will be great, you assume that Abs will be great, you assume that Fil will rebound, you assume that Homer will rebound, you assume that Draper will rebound, you assume we'll sign Moen and he'll instantly become a 10+ goal scorer. You see my problem? If we just needed to assume a few of those things, I'd have a positive outlook. But base our whole damn season on assumption that could easily go either way is crazy.

I think because the players didn't receive qualifying offers before July 1st?
-
Wow, guess all those rumors saying Nash HATED playing in Columbus were true, eh?

Wings will re-sign Leino to a 2-year deal

And once again you're assuming he'll have this miraculous breakout season of 31 goals just because he did good in the few games he played with us. You have to remember this is the same kid who only scored 15 goals in GR. -
Is that so? I suppose thats why he went from 19 goals in 08 to 12 in 09. Though he had more points, it was by four. We're not guaranteed anything when it comes to players having rebound seasons.
-
Leino also had only 15 goals in 57 games played in GR. You're saying it'd be okay if he JUST nets 25. COME ON! Only nets 25??? Hey, I love the guy too and someday he'll blossom into a star player, but don't go into next season expecting 25 from him yet. You gotta have realistic expectations. Helm I think is good for 15, but how the heck do you think Moen will "be good for 10-15" when he's only scored 10 ONCE in his whole career??? And you're also "assuming" that Filppula will for sure rebound from a pretty dreadful season. As I said before, everyone is assuming waaaaaay too much, including Kenny. What if these kids DON'T have these stellar seasons that you all are expecting them to have? What if Homer and Fil and Draper DON'T rebound from bad seasons? What happens then? THIS is what has me scared. Nothing good ever comes from just "assuming" things will be fine.
-
I'm sorry, but I really don't like all of this. We're taking kids who ONLY played in the playoffs last year and putting them as regulars on the team and expecting to have breakout seasons. You all are basically saying, "Its okay we've lost 60 goals in Hossa and Sammy, we'll make it up when Leino, Helm, and Abs score at least 20 each". You guys are expecting way too much and are putting a lot of pressure for first year kids to fill some BIG shoes. I don't think its gonna happen, and unless we somehow sign a at least a 3rd line 15-20 goal scorer, I think we're in trouble.
-
Fact is, now we need to sign a replacement.
-
Agreed. If Sammy signs somewhere else, a 20 goal scorer would be our top priority. We can't rely TOO much on GR.

Travis Moen would be a SOLID pickup.....but as a grinder. He wouldn't replace Sammy as a 20 goal scorer. I'm still hoping for Koivu or Bertuzzi. However, Moen would be an awesome addition either way. -

Thats cool, but we still need a solid 3rd/2nd liner to replace Sammy. Larose was my first choice and judging by that contract, we totally could have afforded to keep Hudler and sign him. Right now, I'm hoping for either Koivu or Bertuzzi. We do need one offensive sign. -
Are you guys nuts? You must not have watched him play during the season. He's absolutely DREADFUL. Plus, we need more offense than defense at this point.
-
I'm thinking if we can lock up Hudler for 3 years or so, say 7 mil over three years, it'd leave us room for a 2nd or 3rd line player for one year. Unfortunately, I think most of them will be pretty expensive, but we MIGHT be able to squeeze a two million dollar contract with incentives for a decent forward like Koivu or Larose or maybe 1.5 or so for Bertuzzi. I think either of them is better then forcing half our GR kids to come up now.
-
Getting Williams would be like vomiting food up just to eat it again
-
I'd be okay with Bertuzzi for the right price.....say, 1.25 - 1.5 mil. He was solid for the playoffs in 07.
