Sedin looks like he was injured pretty bad tonight. There's no way Vancouver trades Kesler when Sedin is down and the team can't score. All but certain Edler with his -23 gets moved though.

I'm ecstatic that we're up 4-0 but man oh man, it could have easily been us on the other end. Our start was atrocious and I really think that second goal just knocked the wind out of them and they couldn't recover, as there were byf ar the better team the first 10 mins.

Mantha should be untouchable. While we have some great playmakers, it's been a while since we've had a pure goal scorer/sniper on this team who can put up 35+ (ie, a Stamkos, Malkin, Ovi, Gaborik type of player). The last one we had was Hossa I'd say. We add a whole new level of excitement to the game when having one of these. No touchie me Mantha!

I'm sorry but no comprende. It's one thing if you're in tip top shape, but to be injured and on top of that still on the honeymoon of his massive contract extension to go play in the olympics just to come back and say "Yeah, I can't play" should not be kosher in anybody's books. At some point you gotta draw the line. If you're too sick to play for your NHL team, you're too sick to play for any team. Should be simple as that.

People seem to forget, besides the back injury, the guy will be 34 next season. Don't expect any stellar numbers, even if his back is better.

If he has to have surgery, he might as well call it a career. Once it gets to that point, there's no coming back and even if you try, you're never the same. For whatever reason, they don't seem to be too common in the NHL but in football they happen all the time and most that get to Z's stage end up retiring. Riiiiight. So let's forget the fact that Illitch is a businessman first and foremost, not a goodwill ambassador, and that the majority of all arenas are all funded the same way. Why should he be an exception? Why should he front the whole thing when that's simply not the norm? I'm sorry to be blunt but it shouldn't be his problem nor responsibility to make sure to provide jobs for residents, especially when so many are lacking even basic education and many times, completely illiterate. Do what's economically feasible as well as practical, which is how every other business is run. This is a great investment for Detroit, something EVERYBODY can get excited about, and will take blighted land and turn it into something fun. And yet people still complain. Sheesh, you guys act like he's supposed to be running a charity drive or something. This sense of entitlement is ridiculous.

Council just BARELY approved the final hurtle for the arena land transfer. Ladies and gentlemen, a new red wings arena is now officially on its way.

I just want there to be some damn transparency. It's been a day-to-day lower body since Jan. 1st. That's over a month ago. This is on the level of long term IR timeframes, not day to day. Why not just say what the injury is?
