On the bright side, we're set to get a nice, high draft pick!
-
Wow, seriously screw Weber. All he had to do was grin and bear it in Nashville one more year and then he would have had his pickings of teams. I get that the CBA negotiations will change contract terms but, I mean come on, the guy would have been given a huge pay day regardless. Man, suck it up and spend your summers in Philly is you love it so much.

10 mil split over 2 years? I'd be absolutely fine with that. Speaking of which, here is an excellent article on Semin and why we should absolutely go for him. Honestly, if Crawford and Mcguire didn't go on their little anti-Semintic (had to do the pun) rant on the 1st, he almost definitely would have been signed by now. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/free_agency/2012/07/24/alexander_semin_worth_the_risk_free_agent_washington_capitals/ Everyone forgets, stat wise, he looks just about the same on paper as Parise. Signing him short term and trading for a defenseman could actually salvage our offseason.

Disappointing to say the least. Here's some highlights from a couple morning articles. Don't expect any new Red Wings anytime soon folks! http://www.detroitne...207120392/1128/

It's quotes like this from Holland: that seriously make me bang my head against the wall. Oh and according to Holland, he only plans on adding another defenseman before the season, so don't hold your breath for Semin or Ryan.

Holland losing his moxie? Is Detroit slipping as UFA destination?
ShanahanMan replied to RedWingsRox's topic in General
One's gotta think Holland has had a hard time selling the program in recent years. I mean, yes we're an original six team with a previous winning tradition. However, we're also a team with an old, dilapidated arena, a team who just lost their franchise player, full of aging veterans and unproven youth....a team, playoff wise, has been going the wrong direction for the last 4 years..... Yeah, doesn't really scream "attractive" does it? -
Flyers sign Weber to offer sheet: 14y/$110m ($56m 1st 4yrs)
ShanahanMan replied to a topic in General
Can you make single post without insulting the person you're responding to? Just once? Couldn't win? You're defending our roster yet at the same time discounting a team that destroyed us in the playoffs? I seriously can't wrap my head around the way your logic works. The Predators put together a damn solid team essentially from scratch due to good management and smart draft choices. We lose Stuart, Rafalski, Lidstrom in the span of two years and you think all is fine, yet they lose Suter and you immediately think they "cant win"? I don't consider Radulov a loss, and the loss of Suter will definitely hurt, but I can think, as long as they retain Weber, they are still a team that can go far. But it doesn't matter what I say, because in your little world, you'll always think we have a Stanley Cup caliber team regardless of the names on the roster.- 469 replies

Hah, do you forget this is the team that literally moped the floor with us? If they're a sinking ship, than we're already at the bottom of the ocean. They lost one of the best defensemen in the league to free agency, agreed, but if they match Weber's offer, which I believe they will, they are just one defenseman away from another Stanley Cup run.- 469 replies

At the end of the day, regardless of what your excuse is..... if the decisions you make/don't make as a GM are gradually leading your team to become weaker and weaker, than you're simply not doing a good job as GM. Simple.
-
Oh, please. So by that logic, we should let these GM's off the hook if they can't get good, young guys because it's "hard". I'm sorry, but as a GM who's paid 6 million dollars a year, your JOB is to find a way to get-it-done.

One thing though..... If Weber has made it clear to Nashville that he wants OUT, I wonder if a sign-and-trade scenario is still possible......- 469 replies

What people also need to get is this will definitely create a domino affect, driving up the value for elite defensemen exponentially. Any hopes we had of trading for Yandle, Enstrom, etc. is all but gone.- 469 replies

Uh, no. You're leaving out a critical point from that statement. We're actually whining about getting younger with proven talent. Brunner and Nyquist are not, as of now, proven NHL top-6 forwards and until then, yes, we will continue to whine about getting younger with proven NHL caliber players.

Red Wings make "helluva" offer for Nash, no response
ShanahanMan replied to stevkrause's topic in General
Yep, this just puts to rest what most of us already knew. No way Nash gets traded to Detroit no matter what's on the table. -
Good post.
-
Refuse to believe this.

We always seem to be on the same page with these matters, yet for whatever reason, you never get ripped apart like I do. What's your secret?
-
Uh, no, that's not what he said. He never said "fill", he specifically said "replace", as in these guys will replace Stuart and Lidstrom. Not sure how you can read it any other way... How exactly are we risking our money if it's not being allocated to anything else...? If it's essentially, just sitting there? Don't risk some money on a previous 40 goal scorer for a team in need of scoring depth? Just don't understand your argument... And then you say we WILL make the playoffs and WILL compete? You come to that consensus based on......what exactly? Do you not realize this is now a team MUCH weaker than the one that was first to get eliminated and won a single game last playoffs? And yet, somehow, you think with a weaker roster we'll somehow do.....better? Am i missing something here? I just dont understand the logic!
-
That line has been on loop for the last 4 years.....
-
Yeah, well, you gotta take risks sometimes if you're gonna be successful.....something Kenny needs to learn about .
