You guys really confuse the hell out of me sometimes. So signing a guy like Mike Modano who had 30 points last season for 1.5 mil is an awesome idea but signing Guerin, a player who had more goals and points, for one third the price is stupid. I just don't get the logic.

GMR has hit the nail right on the head. Asham is someone the Wings really could have used.....a gritty, tough player who can also put up points. Instead, we sign a past-his-prime unnecessary player in the likes of Modano for more than twice the price and then offer Downey a try-out. Really boggles the mind. Asham was a presence our 4th line definitely needed.

I suppose if Lilja goes for more than 1.2 mil (including bonuses) or so, then you're right, we wouldn't have been able to sign him. But if he (or other younger, more worthwhile defensemen) ends up going for around the same price as Salei, Im gonna be a bit.....annoyed .

Not a fan of this. Would have way rather seen Lilja back, especially after he fought so hard to recover from his injury. Salei hasn't played a full season since 2006 , and frankly is just too old. Whats the average age of our defensive core now, 37? *sigh* Was really really hoping for Mitchell.

You have to realize that that was a year ago. Once a player hits the big 40, his stats drop more than BP's stock.

This contract is disgusting. What's the point of a salary cap if teams are allowed to cheat it by signing players to insanely long term deals. Pretty soon, no one will be available come free agency because the average player will be in the middle of his 20 year contract. Seriously, how the he'll can this be approved.

100 million? Christ that's a lot. I would think that after his disappointing run with New Jersey, his value would have decreased a bit. Apparently not.

The price would have to be right ofcourse, but why not take a risk on a guy who put up 60+ points last year? I'm very familiar with his problems in work ethic, but perhaps the Wings organization can snap him out of it. And Crymson, try to actually contribute with your posts once in a while instead of just trolling the site and berating everyone else.
