I noticed him making some odd decisions as well... but I think he's just a bit out of sync. Unless he's actually hurt, he'll be fine next round. If you think he's shooting too much, it may be due to the fact that Ellis gives up big rebounds. He may have been looking for Holmstrom to pick up the sloppy seconds.

so there's no chance he was injured within the past 6 games since then?

with your logic, it only seems right that McCarty would sit. Regardless, it's going to be a hard decision. I wouldn't be surprised if McCarty is scratched. I love the dude, but Samuelsson has more to offer at this point. Same goes for Helm. The extra speed on the fourth line coming from Helm is awesome. On the bright side, this discussion could be a lot different. It's a breath of fresh air to be arguing over who should sit rather than who should make the lineup due to injuries.

I don't understand the Samuelsson bashing... I don't like the guy yet I think he's playing pretty well. He skated into the zone a little to slow on one offensive rush today, and that's all I can think of. Other than that, he's getting pissed, putting the body on, roughing it up in the corners, and making decent passes. Overall, there's usually much to blame on him, but for this series, he's looked good to me.

I'm far from sold on Stuart. I saw him make way too many mistakes here with L.A. Even though he's played better with the Wings, I don't believe he's a huge asset.

i think Helm will be in the line-up the rest of the playoffs. he's done very well.

i can't believe no one is bitching about these damn refs. they are AWFUL. Although I'm sure it's not the case, but it feels like they are consciously making an effort to keep Nashville in the game. They are not calling the main penalties, and instead calling chincy crap. The trip on Draper?!?!? how was that Any different than the trip on Datsyuk when he plowed Ellis??? Oh and, if you look close on the net cam, you can see the puck inside the net before the net goes off the moorings. It's in the air above Ellis' glove, below Datsyuk's arm. The puck is flat toward the camera, you can see the printed text on the puck. (again, before the net was off). Goal, 2-0 Detroit. Refs suck.

i met him... in person he's a very nice guy. on TV he's an idiot and says dumb, negative stuff all game. in games 1 and 2 all he did was rip on Ellis. Now he loves him. He's all about calling out the negatives, which is fine in my opinion, if only the stuff he says wouldn't be so idiotic. he puts a bad name on hockey.

no one would have stopped that goal. the predators executed that 6-on-5 perfectly. All the skaters did their jobs, it was just a great play. I felt Lidstrom was out of position, but he was at the opposite side of the net to swat away a rebound... so it wasn't even his fault.

i love the "attach a big fake $10k check to the next octopus thrown on the ice" idea. That would be freaking hilarious. When they say "incite the fans" I'm sure they mean, incite the fans into throwing more octopi. I really don't think they mean, incite the fans to yelling and being excited. Pppppplease... give me a break. Everyone is too afraid to take a penalty and put the Preds on a man-advantage while the games are so close. Just because fighting is the only asset Downey serves doesn't make him the only man since he can't do anything else.

i COMPLETELY AGREE WITH THIS. Only the Captain has the privilege of arguing with the ref and getting away with it. There's been so much chippy stuff going on and horrible calls... If it were Yzerman, he'd be in the refs face making sure the ref knows what's up. Unfortunately, it's proper to name a captain that will be around for a while which omits Cheli. Although, it would be great if he were Captain now.

Please don't put this kid down... he's got a crazy imagination, let him run with it. It's not mental, he's a freaking little kid. He cares about something. Once he's your age and his imagination dies after people like you put people like him down, we all will regret it.

speaking of which, was anyone else's feed of the game in horrible quality? I'm talking about watching the game on Versus (via CBC). Our image quality was basically internet quality. Terrible.

I was hoping Stuart would sit for Lebda. I'm wondering though, what does it take to make a goalie change? Two goals in 7 seconds? If Hasek wants to keep his streak going, two goals in 7 seconds is set for tonight. 3-2 Wings win.

maybe this is mentioned... but tonight is a triple-header on Vs. (i'm on the west coast) First it's the Caps at 2pm, then Rangers at 4pm, then Red Wings at 6:30. I blame Bettman... who else tries to cram 3 games by starting them all within 4.5 hours. This is so stupid. As much as I hate ESPN... these are the times I love ESPN and ESPN2... oh and ESPNalternate... I wish there were Vs. and Vs. deuce.

fact is, the whole team needs to get better to win another game. we didn't deserve it tonight, i thought for a while there that we were gonna steal one. didn't happen. these are my complaints... 1.) the entire team looked tired to me from the get go. No one (except maybe Draper) had any jump to their step. 2.) Hasek, are you seriously going to let two unobstructed shots from above the circle in within 9 seconds? Give me a freaking break. The second shot was well placed, but the first one, you were way out of position old man. 3.) I still don't hate Lilja... From what I saw, Lidstrom made more mistakes tonight but didn't pay for them. I wouldn't mind seeing Lebda replace Stuart next game. Brad didn't look like he had a clue tonight except for when he pinched in and put it off the cross bar. 4.) He refs, have you not noticed the flying elbows, the trips, the checks from behind, the tackles??? Do you feel bad for Nashville? What is your damn problem? It's still hockey even when we're on the powerplay... rules DO still apply. Earn your job and call a damn penalty! Nashville can quit crying about the calls not going their way the first two games... you got them all back tonight. 5.) Good things happen when you put the puck on the net (I'm talking to you Filpulla and Hudler) Don't be afraid to shoot, quit the excessive break-away passing, set up a rebound... or put it right in like Pavs. Again, we didn't deserve it tonight, we'll step up Wednesday. Our 3rd and 4th lines are playing well, I wouldn't mind seeing Zetterberg and Datsyuk back together. Filpulla and Franzen can handle the 2nd scoring line. Two other comments.... -Ever since he took a beating in Game 1, I haven't felt that Cleary has been 100%. I'm betting we'll hear of some secret injury of his once the playoffs are over. -I'm pleasantly surprised and happy with Kronwall, Drake and McCarty, I think they've been playing well. Kronwall is stepping up and making his presence felt in more ways than one. He's moving the puck like Lidstrom and hitting like Kostantinov... gotta love it. Not that the other two are superstars by any stretch, but they are hustling and Drake is hitting people.

please leave that chant to soccer, where it belongs.

Look, I know the April fools joke was on her about ads on jerseys... and I'm telling you, this stuff is not too far off. i.e. For the playoffs, they are painting "Stanley Cup Playoffs" inside the bluelines just like they had "Thank You Fans" after the lock-out. They also are painting an NHL shield logo behind the nets. For one, it annoys me because I hate anything painted where it doesn't need to be. Each time they do something like this, it makes the NHL look bad in my opinion. It's very minor league - makes us look bush league. My point is this, the more they paint on the ice, the more Bettman is going to push to turn them from semi-annoying NHL logos into completely obnoxious ads. I'm a purist, that's my opinion. A new marketing staff needs to be in place and Bettman needs to go. Do these paint jobs upset you as much as they do me?
