this line was very funny to me, "we don't have the offense it takes to win the stanley cup." Have a look at our Goals For and you'll see that we're first in the west, 2nd in the NHL - if not for a current, awful slump, we'd be number one without a doubt. Just because our roster is down to 4 hall of famers, doesn't mean we can't win the Cup (see Carolina, Tampa Bay)... one or two players added to an oppositions roster isn't the end of the world... 20 guys dress, this isn't boring basketball. I'll say it again, relax... it'd be nice if you used this enthusiasm inside the Joe so the decibel levels weren't such a joke.

If we had continued our normal pace the last 15 games, you'd all be laughing off the idea that we need to make some blockbuster deadline deal. We're bound to slump, there's no two ways about it. it cracks me up to read that you think Lebda is horrible yet you have the lowly Brad Stuart's picture on every post. I live in LA, have seen Stuart play many times this year... I'd take 22 over 6 anyday. The one thing Stuart's good at is coughing up the puck.

there's something about the Wings marketing staff... i think it's that they aren't very good. of course you all remember the awful "fire on ice" logo they had the detroitredwings.com when the season began. now the e-mail about is titled "lidstrom talks about knee injury on drw.com" for one, it made me think it was going to be video, but that's my mistake. the worst part is in the body of the e-mail, there is a hyperlink to drw.com (no, NOT detroitredwings.com, but literally the letters D R W.com) which leads you to a California Investment company. I'm not the best web programmer in the world, but i sure know how to disable text from being a hyperlink. geesh.

Bettman wants you to think that people are turned off by the vicious nature of hockey. Thats what HE says. So now you're agreeing with him. Sure, some moms out there aren't going to like it as well as dad's that were former captians of their chess teams. But take a look at UFC, what an audience they have. I, for one, hate UFC and think it's a waste of time, I have no interest in it... but obviously there is a huge audience for it. Listen to Cherry, listen to Mickey... they remind us all during every rare hockey fight that the entire crowd is out of their seats. The last Kings game I went to, the cheers were lauder for a Parros / Ivanans fight than they were for when the final buzzer sounded and the Kings had beaten the Ducks. Quit listening to Bettman. He's corrupting even the real hockey fans, one at a time.

I wouldn't mind getting Hossa / Fedorov and Modry... I've seen Brad Stuart play quite a bit this year (I live in LA) and I tell you what, he's not that great. He gives the puck away way more than Bryan Rafalski (if you can believe that) and he is caught out of position just as much... I'll take Rafalski any day, as long as he's not paired with Stuart.

thanks for this post, I'd like to hear if anyone else has the same problem... my Dad lives in NW Ohio and last year I bought him the Center Ice package on DishNetwork. I haven't bought it yet this year for various reasons, this now being the most obvious. Does anyone else have the same problem? or does anyone else have it working?

It's definitely cool to see the morning skate... but I have yet to see anything "impressive." all one camera from the side boards with an operator that doesn't know how to white balance...? none-the-less, very cool since none of us every get to see that stuff... how about that F-bomb at the 1:35 mark? shoulda been rated-R... haha.

flashback.. one week from 4 years ago... Colorado defeats Detroit at Joe Louis Arena in overtime with a score of 3-2 taking the series lead of 3 games to 2. Colorado never scored again and June 13th was an historic day. just thought i'd bring that up.

Very interesting. On a similar, not-so-off-topic note... you know that song they play during the NHL commercials. The ones that are supposed to be all glorious (not the versus commercials) and they play that awesome song from the 300 trailer? First off, they always have a tag at the bottom right of the screen that says the song is from Warner Bros and the 300 soundtrack... well it's a song by the Nine Inch Nails from 1999. It upsets me that they don't credit Trent Reznor of NiN for his work. Anyway, back on track, he just released a new record entitled Year Zero and Interscope distributes it. They are pulling a similar tactic. In Austrailia, the record sells for nearly $30 american dollars. Here in the U.S it costs 10 bucks. Reznor couldn't believe they were selling his album for so much over there and complained to Interscope. Interscope told him this... "It's because we know you have a real core audience that will pay whatever it costs when you put something out - you know, true fans. It's the pop stuff we have to discount to get people to buy." (when he said pop, he specifically meant Avril Lavigne who's new record sells for a little more than half the price). So yeah, Bettman and Interscope are straight up business(men)... they WILL do whatever it takes to make money and keep their business strong. I can't say it's good or bad in the grand scheme of things but without a doubt, it's the TRUE FANS that get ripped off. (i.e. didn't hockey night in canada get ripped off a couple weeks ago because Bettman wanted it to be during the day for the American audience?) I'm not in complete agreeance over this conspiracy theory that is going on but I definitely understand how some are suspicious.

it's not normal for me to be overly optimisic or to count my chickens before they hatch - and i understand why people would think that about this thread... first off, i had an overwhelming feeling that we would lose the game once that a-hole neidermayer tied it up. I now have an overwhelming feeling like we're going to win it all. I think the root of this is how well we played and how flukey their goals have been. And MAINLY, I feel that losing 2 in a row will wake up the wings. Hopefully it will propel us into the finals like it did in '02. anyway, i have a good feeling about the way we've been playing and I think we'll play with some major urgency for the rest of the post season.

basically, anaheim can commit as many fouls as they want in a third period. again, we didn't capitalize on powerplays, but we weren't on as many as we deserved.

We got caught in a serious traffic game on the way to the game and we never saw Quincey on the ice. I see now watching the recorded game at home that Kyle took a hit awkwardly and went to the dressing room but came back. I now look at his shift chart and it looks as if we were right in saying that we never saw Quincey on the ice tonight. Does anyone know if he is indeed hurt? If so, what's wrong with him and how bad is it? I personally think he has stepped up and played very well. It seems sometimes Babcock likes to sit people at the drop of a hat. Is this the case? Either way, we can't afford to lose him. I hope we dont have to bring Meech or Ericsson. Not that they are bad, but they'll be an unknown variable that I don't want to sweat over.

i really really like Franzen, but it surprises me that you'd say he ranks up there with Pav and Z.

there, now that is the perfect post for this thread and exactly what I was trying to get at... if only i could have said that in this many words! 1. traditionally yes, but the league told us they weren't going to make any changes to officiating in the playoffs in the "new nhl." i never agreed with the non-calls in the past either... a foul is a foul is a foul. call it on both teams! 2. yes, we should have capitalized, but we didn't. it's not like we don't deserve the game because of how we played during just over 2 minutes with a 5on3 (46 seconds the first time, and a 1:35 the second).
