you are correct, BUT he did indeed come back to the bench and never jumped over the boards after that hit.
-
i'm not even sure i believe he had an off night... two of the four goals were absolutely not his fault, he was screened 100%. as for the other 2... one was a blazing slapshot from up close and the other a deflection. Besides, if those second two WERE completely his fault, he'd still only have let in 2 goals. Wings win 3-2 and this thread never exists. So yeah, I don't think he had much of an off night.
-
Excellent point Reg... now put your own experience of these boards to use and stay away from them with all of your own exceptional hockey knowledge. you will not be missed. if you come back, i'll lose a lot of respect for you since you won't have practiced what you've preached.

i think you hit it on the head... i agree 100% that the decisions we were making weren't nearly quick enough. I really want to love Bertuzzi, but I feel like he especially makes the wrong decisions with the puck. maybe he's just not used to the system... as long as he keeps working hard, i'll continue to like him. and yeah, crymson. the odds are still against us on scoring during a 5-on-3 powerplay. I mean really, a good one-man advantage may be below 20%. We came damn close but couldn't score... we'll get em next time. edit: by the way, did you all really expect us to do better than splitting in Anaheim? I'm sure Babs expected to come home tied at 2. We came damn close to taking both games away from the 2nd best team on their own ice.
-
AH! you got me again! i'm stupid... darn it. and clearly Crymson is 15 years old since he thought a blazing slap shot from nearly point blank at the middle of the circle was a horrid goal to give up. all hail Reg, the Osgood-loving hockey goddess.
-
um, did you just say "snap?" how old are you, 15?
-
well, if he was hurt and no one noticed, im sure the wings staff wouldn't bring it to attention at press confs. I just counted 12 guys on the bench with a minute to go in the 3rd. I assume Ozzie is hidden in the back, so there's 13... and 6 on the ice... that makes 19. someone is missing. edit: i then backed up the recording 30 seconds and i count 14 on the bench, so all the evidence supports your claim! ha, you gotta be right.
-
yeah crymson, what's wrong with you? didn't you know that in the playoffs, there is a limited number of penalties a team can take and then the refs just quit calling anything on that team? It's the way it works man.
-
he played his two minutes through the first 15 minutes or so... then never stepped foot on the ice again. That's pretty abnormal for Babs to sit a player for more than 2 complete periods. Oh well, I hope you're right in saying he's not hurt.
-
I'm very fond of Filpulla as well, but I wouldn't dare to go as far as saying he'll be much better than Datsyuk. Only time will tell, but I don't see management signing Fil to a deal nearly as long as they've signed Pav. But yeah, no disrespect to Fil whatsoever, he'll only get smarter and stronger every season. Dats is just one in a billion in my book. (sidenoted: stevie is one in a google-plex... hopefully your a back to the future fan or you'll laugh at me).
-
agreed, if he isn't with us, i hope he retires because i don't want to worry about running into him in the '08 post-season. Ozzie v. Hasek, yikes. that's scary.
-
i also do not care for burke... and i would like to say thanks for the highly intelligent, educational, and analytical post, we are all now dumber for having read it.
-
your right reg, i just turned 2 years old yesterday. they still play hockey on clay courts right? i hope our tight end is better on sunday, i wish shawn burr would come back and play centerfield. Do you think Glen Hanlon could be better than Paul Ysebart at being the backboard? Or maybe Bryan Murray will lose his lisp and replace Bruce Martin on the postgame pod cast. either way, yeah, our boys blew it, we have to make some more 3-pointers from the 50-yard line. edit: i just saw some of your other posts about how Hasek is terrible and Osgood should be in net. That's good stuff, you should do some stand up at the comedy clubs there... my work here is done.

ok, this will be my last post on this topic because of the ignorance. we get a couple 5-on-3's and we don't score... somehow it's our fault and we don't deserve any more chances...? I'm not even asking for more penalties... i'll simplify it to this. if the ducks don't make those illegal plays that go uncalled, the play would have developed differently. for instance, if filpulla isn't slash / tripped at the end of his break away, maybe he puts the shot where he really intended to. So many other plays would have held different outcomes. To say we had our chances and failed is completely ridiculous. Check out the movie The Butterfly Effect and you might understand how little things effect the big picture. And, you say, meh it's playoff hockey, this is how it goes. BS! in this so-called "playoff hockey" they are calling weak ass hooks / holds on both teams. This is the "new NHL" and the refs have been told to call each game like it's the regular season. If you want to keep giving the ducks free passes and justify their illegal plays, go ahead. I'll be back at the real world. ok, i have to respond to this... I now see your logic and I am now on your side. This is how I expect Babcock to approach next game, if not, he surely would be using the wrong strategy... During the first shift, have Kopecky trip someone, ASAP. Then at the drop of the next puck, have Quincey hook someone down. OK, there we go, first 5-on-3 out of the way. Now, once Quincey gets out of the box, or the ducks score... we'll have Kopecky and Quincey repeat the previous sequence of events. Now, after 5 minutes played in the first, we will have given Disney two 5-on-3s. From that point forward, we will be justified in hooking, holding, interfering, tripping, and slashing the s*** out of Disney since we will have given them their magic number of two 5-on3's. If they don't beat us then, it's their own fault for not captilizing early on and we wouldn't have to sit in the box for the rest of the game no matter what we did. Nice call Reg, any way we can get in touch with the Babs and make sure he carries out this insanely awesome plan??

i will say this, it seems when ozzie steps in, the rest of the team recognizes the back-up goalie is in net and plays harder on D. That could be a tremendous help. I'd like to make one more point... Vernon stole some games for us in '97, Dom stole games for us in '02 and also this current playoff run... when the heck has ozzie ever stolen a game? ...the better goalie is in net. period.
-
so that's how it works, once a team gets a couple 5-on-3's the refs can put away the whistles??? your comment has to be one of the most ignorant posts i've seen in a while. i was at the game and you sound like a ducks fan, complaining about the calls for the sake of complaining. I tell you what, at the game, and now watching it again on the DVR, the Ducks got away with a lot! Datsyuk took a sucker punch from Moen (either that or a knee to the head) in the scrum almost halfway through the 2nd in front of disney's bench. Multiple hits from behind went uncalled (esp during the 3rd). And I've counted at least 3 interference penatlies that weren't called. Specifically interference when a disney player would hit a wing before the puck came to the wing. I'm not saying we didn't get away with anything, but some of this stuff was just plain obvious. I almost wish we'd start playing like the ducks... we'd knock them off their game if we were playing illegaly and only got called for it half the time.
-
i felt that we played pretty good for the most part but i get extremely nervous the puck's in our end. If a few of the bounces would have went our way we would have won, instead, the ducks got the bounces. Either way, like i said, i hold my breath when the puck's in our end, we just flail our sticks at everything, i wish we were more physical in our own end.

i don't think player's moms should be allowed to post of LGW. Reg, I know you think your son Chris is great, but you're supposed to, that's what mom's do. No need to push you're beliefs on us, we know your son has no business in the crease during a WCF game.
-
i concur... lots of empty seats indeed. it was still sold out though. you just have these rich SoCal people that can eat the price if they don't feel like going to the game.
-
I heard Pronger's wife was suspended for one game as well... apparently she told Chris to make the hit. I would believe it, she also told him to move to SoCal after going to the finals in Edmonton. She wears the pants and he's a *****. Maybe Mrs. P hears good things about Florida and he'll be a Panther / Bolt next year. What a wipped, WIPPED, sad man.

do you have a reason you think it's pronounced KronVall? I tend to think we are all saying it right especially since Mickey and Ken say it with a "w." I know that the NHL spells his name Kronvall on score sheets... but that's because there was a typo on his papers when he came to the US. I'd read that this year on either freep.com or nhl.com, i can't remember.

i'm no ice-pro either, but i've played on some very bad ice and what some call, one of the best ice srfaces in the world. I looked at it close up (4 feet away or so) before warm-ups tonight and I specifically told my girlfriend that the ice looked pretty damn good. But that's just by sight and i'm sure JLA is much better no matter what. also, we sat in the upper bowl for the game, and it was unusually cold in there. Another positive that may mean the ice wasn't so bad. again, i'm no Al Sabotka.
-
speaking of babcock being a thinker... i'm not sure if this is common practice, but while i was down by the ice for warm-ups tonight, i looked at the coaches for a second, saw what they were doing, but didn't think much of it and watched the boys warm up on the ice instead. anyway, i just looked at some pics i took and it's more obvious and relevant to me what the coaches were doing... each of them had their eyes glued on the Ducks end of the ice, watching everything very intensely, each coach had a pencil / paper and were jotting down notes. I hope I can go to game 4, I'd like to pay more attention to the coaches. I wonder what exactly they were looking for.

most definitely, especially since the crowd cheered once they knew someone was hurt. So dumb. I used to play in-house at the Toledo Sports Arena. Their ice was so terrible. (oh boy, I hate to say this because it may sound a little too much like bragging after i posted this thread... but, I actually got to play at the Joe before... twice. I scored during my second game there... twice. I have the video and puck to prove it)... That day ranks right up there with today for me. Enough about me, I sincerely apologize... go WINGS!
