    TSN's Expert Picks

Just wanted to comment that you are very well-spoken for a fifth grader. Nice work! haha.
  2. 1. I'm fairly new to LA, before moving here, I saw all my NHL games at JLA, barring a couple Wings games at Nationwide. 2. I've now gone to 4 Wings-Kings games at Staples Center and 3 games at the Pond. -for the games at the pond, 2 were regular season against the Wings and the other was last year's game 3 of the 2nd round against the Avs.... 3. No atmosphere out here, at either rink, compares to JLA. Kings games were fun and I'd compare the fans to Blue Jackets fans... not bad, fairly loud and fun - definitely a good time. But the Ducks games, HOLY CRAP... BORINGGGGG! the Ducks fans at the Pond were terrible, sounded like the place was 1/4th full when it was actually nearly sold out. We complain about JLA being quiet, try going to a Ducks game. I'm not saying this to troll at all but the Pond was always sooooo freaking quiet. It seriously felt like Disneyland with no Mickey Mouse... tons of familiies with nothing to cheer about. 4. But at the Avs game, they DID have something to cheer about. The ducks were up 2-0 in the series, and to go up 3-0 would surely mean moving on to the Western Conf. Finals. My friend and I got there 2 hours before the game (my friend is an Avs fan but not everybody's perfect) and we tailgated... parking lot was EMPTY except for a few big SUVs carrying groups of Avs fans. No ducks fans in site! finally, we're in the arena, top row at center ice. Ducks come onto the ice, lights flashing, horns blaring... what are the fans doing? majority is sitting down, twittling their thumbs. My Wings were just eliminated but I'm at a FREAKIN PLAYOFF GAME, so I'm standing up screaming my head off (because hockey, in general, freaking rules). I was literally screaming at everyone around me to get up and cheer, people looked at me like i was a crazy person. Final Thought: i AM a crazy person, just ask Bucci, all hockey fans are nuts, and that's what makes the sport so great... it's nice to be a die hard hockey fan. Wings in 5, Wings FANS in 4... Ducks fans shouldn't have made the playoffs. (I do know this, there HAVE TO BE some great Ducks fans out there... but whoever you are, you're one of a select few).

    Hasek owes Lidstrom a beer

Aside from that, if Lidstrom would have hustled to the puck, none of this would ever have happened. Grier was more than a few strides behind Lidstrom at neutral ice yet still beat Nick to the puck... Reminds of the Kenny Lofton days in Cleveland, he would mis-judge the ball so bad at first that he'd have to make an amazing diving catch to make the out in center field.
  4. pavyaz19

    Suspend Thornton!

If you have a DVR, go to the faceoff after Grier's penalty and before Holmstrom's PP goal. Aside from EXTREMELY CHEAP... that IS intent to injure. F*** him and his goonery. Is he playing for Calgary. Alert Colin. (if you don't have a DVR... Thornton was taking the draw against Zetterberg and instead of attempting to win the faceoff, Thornton straight up, two-hand slashed Hank and he went down... then Thornton gave an extra cross check while Hank was down for good measure... The crosscheck is the least of my worries).
  5. pavyaz19

    Suspend Thornton!

apparently you didn't see the two handed chop that sent an unassuming Zetterberg to the ice pain. Thornton probably looked at zetterberg while he was laying on the ice, sure.
  6. pavyaz19

    Chelios

I assume he'll get his wish of PP time with Schneider out. Makes me happy, I freakin love Cheli. I just wish he wasn't getting cranked so much. They are hitting him everytime he's on the ice. We CANNOT afford to lose him!
  7. pavyaz19

    Suspend Thornton!

haha, whatever, I still think you're an idiot... i think you lose all credibility for calling me a whiner... big deal. the point is this... the slash was just as hard (maybe harder) than the slash put on by McLennan... did you not agree with his suspension as well??? Just because it was his leg and not his gut should have zero relevance. Z was in a defensless position while Thornton gave up the faceoff to slash him, hard. That kind of stickwork is what the NHL should do away with, it has no place in the game. Hence, suspension. If they start letting that kind of stuff go, it's just going to get worse and worse. Which is my point that anyone is an idiot if they don't think Thornton should face punishment for his actions. If I lose credibility, I could care less, i dont want to see anyone get hurt from goonery. One final statement... and this is for big bad joe... "try that cheap shot when Bertuzzi is on the ice... Dare Ya!"

    Schneider: OUT with Broken Wrist

true, it IS a huge loss, but with how well Quincy has played (except for those two mistakes today in the third) I think we're deeper on D than we think. I have one major worry, and that is how often Chelios is getting checked. 4 of our top 6 D-men out would be disastrous.
  9. pavyaz19

    Suspend Thornton!

true, here's to hoping the Sharks don't turn into goons and Schneider is the last injury this round.
  10. pavyaz19

    Lebda?

looks like he better be ready for game 6... anyone hear anything about Schneider? aside from the "wrist injury" we heard from NBC.
  11. pavyaz19

    Suspend Thornton!

well, he just did it again at 2:52... chopped zetterberg in the leg again at the blueline from the blind side. He's a F***ing goon, i dont care what u say. if its not obvious enough, Zetterberg's already hurt. Yeah I'm whining, he's one of our best, Thornton's a *****. Remember when Larionov broke that Av's leg with a slash back in the day? how would you like that to happen to Z? WL, you're an idiot.
  12. pavyaz19

    Lang Goal?

I agree that we need to stay away from the glove and shoot low... Nabokov has given up some Osgood-like rebounds when we've shot low, so let's do some more of it! Holmstrom will be there to slam in the rebounds. Anyone read Lang's comment on the goal. I think it was in the freep, he was asked about the play and how Rivet backed off to cover Franzen and Lang answered something like "well wouldn't you back off too if you saw me coming?" I thought that was messed up, either he meant, he had to back off because he would have dished it to Franzen or Rivet had to back off because Lang is so sweet. I hope he didn't mean the latter - hockey players don't say those kinds of things... let the NBA have the cockiness so I never have to witness it. i love how you bash him even in compliment. cracks me up. what a bastard! haha. So true though, he's such a roller coaster ride. Can't win with him, can't win without him.
  13. pavyaz19

    no respect

That game was messed up. 1. both SJ goals should never have happened due to officiating mistakes. The faceoff was illegal and the Sharks had an extra man for the other. 2. that second goal... a knuckler off Lilja's helmet... I mean, come one, that's messed up. (at least Schneid's was a normal, accidental deflection... the Sharks got so many bounces to go their way and the Wings got only one... luckily it's all we needed to win. 3. With all that said, I did feel we outplayed them and we were the better team... but in respect to Sharks fan, come on, they lost the game just as much as we won it. Giving up those goals so late in the periods... not being able to drop it in the empty net... then getting behind the play and letting the laziest guy on the ice go in basically one on one. They lost the game, it was a good thing we never gave up! It's just one of those cases where fans of both teams have solid arguments.
  14. pavyaz19

    Lebda

I agree completely, at least we know that if another defenseman goes down, Quincy can step in and play great. I will say though, I want Lebda back in because of how often he pinches in. We seem to always have 3 forwards battling on the boards and when they center it, no one is ever there. Sometimes Cheli jumps in for the shot, but Lebda is the most active on those kind of plays.
  15. pavyaz19

    Lidstrom?

Geesh, I don't hate the guy. I'm just saying, defensively, he's not been playing up to his rep. Which is why this thread was started in the first place, no? This is just my opinion here, but thanks for calling me a bandwagon fan, haha. post '97? i think not, nice try though. Plus two of his defensive mistakes in one game led directly to goals. When he failed to clear on the power play, then when he tried to cut-off that pass at the blueline. I'm just saying, mistakes like that are just plain bad decisions, having nothing to do with any kind of injury. Again, I don't hate the frickin' guy, but giving him "best player on the team" status seems very odd to me. I don't think NorrisNick should be allowed to comment since he obviously is in love with Lidstrom and is biased... haha, just kidding.
  16. pavyaz19

    Maltby staying in Detroit?

I've always like Maltby and he's always a presence in the playoffs. This year is no exception. We're not giving him boatloads of money, it looks to me like it's not much more than league min. Plus, his PK skills are second to none.
  17. pavyaz19

    Lidstrom?

Everyone has their heart set on defending him since you all think he's so great. He hasn't been our best defenseman, let alone our best player. The guy HAS made some horrific decisions. He has given the puck away in our own end multiple times and hasn't cleared his man in front of our own net. You can keep on sucking up to Lidstrom but you know if it were any other player making those mistakees (i.e. LILJA, Markov, Kronwall) you'd all be bashing them and asking for trades. Instead, since it's Lidstrom making mistakes, he is somehow forgiven due to reputation. Many games this post-season, announcers have been saying "oh, and rare mistake made by Lidstrom..." well, after hearing this often, it's not so rare anymore. I'm just looking at the "here and now" and he is nowhere near our best player defensively. Here's to hoping he turns it around.
  18. pavyaz19

    Homer?

I don't understand this... broken blades are fairly common. You mean to say that the equipment manager doesn't bring two pairs of skates for each player on the road? With Versus explaination of how he quickly zipped off the ice, I would have assumed it was equipment... but Ken Kal's IV explaination would make more sense since he didn't come back. And here's the kicker for me... Paul Boyer was on the bench at the end of the game, he hugs Quincy and Samuelsson right after Schneider scores. Wasn't he supposed to be repairing a skate?
  19. pavyaz19

    Lidstrom?

i've noticed that the D-men are letting the sharks get to the park first too... i really think it's a set play / strategy since each one of them do it. I don't specifically remember a play where we got burned doing that... so i suppose it's working. As for Lidstrom, he has been horrific IMHO... One of the worst guys on D. I just don't understand all his giveaways. As for him being hurt, it seems as if he is making very bad decisions when making his mistakes, so I have to an injury shouldn't cause him to make bad decisions. Speaking of injuries, I REALLY think Zetterberg has something seriously wrong. He still looks good out there (minus a few giveaways tonight) but he looks like he's lost a step or two.

    Versus Commercial Campaign

I'm a transplanted Red Wings fan (grew up in NW Ohio) and now live in Hollywood pursuing a film directing career. I finished 2 commercials in February that I think you all may be interested in seeing... http://www.youtube.com/battalionx and in much higher quality at my website... www.chrispavlica.com To make a long story short, working your way up in Hollywood as a director begins with spending your own money on creating "spec" commercials (speculative). Since there is no real "ladder" to climb which results in a directing career, you just have to prove what you can do on your own time and pray that someone notices what you've done. So that's what these are, examples of work that hopefully lead to paid jobs. Fortunately for me, the cinematographer for these Versus commercials is one of the best in the world (www.bradrushing.com - shot britney spears. eminem, and tons of other videos / commercials / films... he also won mtv moon man for moby's we're all made of stars). Since we've finished in February, the commercials have made their way to Versus, ESPN (not that it matters), the NHLs HQ in Toronto, and now the NHL Network. We are unsure whether the commercials will air or not, but here's to hoping good luck comes our way. Hopefully you will like them as much as the networks have! I had to throw in the Joe's goal horn for "Fortune," if you hate the commercials, I'm sure you'll at least appreciate that! haha. (sorry for the long post, just wanted to explain the origin of all this) Thanks.

    Versus Commercial Campaign

thanks for the considerate comments - very nice to hear.

    GAME 1 (4/26) - Sharks @ Red Wings (LIVE)

worst performer so far... Versus Cameraman. This dude cannot follow the freaking play.
  23. pavyaz19

    GAME 1 (4/26) - Sharks @ Red Wings (LIVE)

1ST GOAL SHOULDN'T HAVE COUNTED... if you look 10-15 seconds before the goal, the wings cleared the puck out of the zone and Number 29 for SJ didn't clear the zone in time before the puck was brought back in. The play was offside, and the Sharks scored on it. Aside from that, the Wings need to quit standing around like a bunch of morons.

    Versus Commercial Campaign

Directing is a whole different animal. The only way to GET experience is to do spec ads... no executive is willing to pump hundreds of thousands into a film if the director has no track record. Even the most prolific working director's have demo reels (Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry, Mark Romanek, David Fincher) and they are always sent to production companies and ad agencies to prove themselves and their body of work. (Having worked at a production company myself, I've seen the massive rows of shelves storing these DVDs). Yeah, screw the 405, there are too many people here... I'm actually a fan of the current Versus ad campaign. It's very stylized compared to their weak attempts during the regular seasn. As for Darren McCarty, they also have a couple of long-gone Mark Messier... I think they have just picked memorable playoff moments for the 20+ age group - i'm happy with those, they show a lot about the true character of a hockey player IMHO. Either way, I appreciate your praise!!! And yes, we have a contact at Versus that has proven unreliable - but we did contact her when they would have been putting money into this current playoff campaign.

Why oh why is the game BLACKED OUT?

i'd read that game one (wings sharks) was only going to be on Versus and not FSNdet or FSNwest. So they better not black out the game for us tomorrow. (us meaning LA-area). But now I'm worried about game 2,3,5,6, and hopefully not 7. of course the people at the cable company don't know anything, THEY NEVER DO!
