it seems obvious to me that Hossa and Zetterberg have not been making much of a noticeable impact so far in the playoffs. It's a good thing none of you cheerleader type fans are coaches of this team otherwise we'd be headed for disaster. Don't think for a second that Babcock is just fine with everything just because we are 5 and 0.

Geesh, thanks for writing that so I didn't have to. There are so many misconceptions about broadcast formats these days. I blame Best Buy. I'm serious about that, I blame Best Buy. Here's a couple other tips for all of you out there that have been lied to and misled by Best Buy... 1.) FALSE: You need a $100 HD antenna to pick up HD over the airwaves. (true: you can use any antenna you'd like, even the $9.99 one they have at radioshack). 2.) FALSE: You MUST spend $80-$150 on an HDMI cable to get the quality you're looking for. (true: the more you spend on HDMI cables usually means higher data rates... however, data rates aren't really a factor yet since everything is so compressed. Go online to a site like newegg.com and get yourself an HDMI for $10. If you're worried about it, double it and spend $20... that's still four times cheaper than the lowest price HDMI cable Best Buy carries (thanks Best Buy! You're really a classy company. You treat us so well! Thanks for carrying the highest priced cables and making us believe that's our only option.) 3.) FALSE: You need high-priced (Monster, etc) Component cables if you choose not to use HDMI - Component cables are 6 cables attached together, you'll recognize them because they are red, green, and blue (for the 3-colors you will see on your screen, which is how your image looks better, because there is more room for data to be transfered since there are 3 cables for your image instead of the previous one) and the three other colors attached are red, white, and yellow. (TRUE: These cables are simply RCA cables which are color-coded differently. The SAME cables you've always used before to hook up your VCR (red, white, yellow) can be used instead of spending $50 or more on a deception. All you have to do is recolor-code them yourself or just remember you're running the yellow cord from green to green, etc. DON'T BE FOOLED! Damn, I hate Best Buy for that.

209 will be behind the Wings bench. Ticketmaster drives me nuts, aside from their high fees... I had row 11 secured and then it said there was a problem with the system! Now I'm seven rows higher in the same section for the same price... damn it.

wasn't the game in anaheim. by the way, you're right Gary! All of us hockey fans hate fighting and you DO know what's best for the game... You DO know what hockey fans want! When we stand up and go crazy on fights such as that one, it is completely out of disapproval for the sore-losers on the ice going at it. Remove fighting, we sure hate it! It's no fun at all!

So, I doubt it's permanent, but Darren Pang has replaced Pierre McGuire between the benches during today's NBC broadcast! He is doing the Pens / Flyers game right now with the rest of NBC's first-string announcers (Emrick, etc). I'm extremely happy about it and wouldn't be upset if I never had to listen to Pierre again. I actually ran into Mr. Pang at a Kings game (Coyotes in town) and told him I missed him on the national broadcasts. He said he was working on it (clearly he wasn't lying!). I ended it with, "I just wish you would replace Pierre McGuire between the benches, we'd all love to see that" he smiled big and said he really appreciated the complement.

I read the first sentence and decided to skip your whole post because you're a Pierre lover... but then I saw a more recent post that was highlighting your comments. Shame on me for judging a book by it's cover!

I have Center Ice online, so I will be able to see the game. My question is for people who have the sports packages on U-Verse and do not live in Ohio or Michigan... Is it possible for you to buy the sports package (which gives you all of America's Fox Sports Networks) and see games 3 & 4 on Fox Detroit (again, I'm in Los Angeles) or will these games be blacked out? Unfortunately, U-Verse does not currently serve up Center Ice.

i just found an added channel to Uverse today... 1701 "ALT HD" and it looks like it's showing the broadcast from FS-Ohio... This could be gravy... I just ordered the sports tier in hopes that it will give me that channel. Yes, I asked, and they said they weren't sure if the channel would come with the sports tier or not... Fairly uninformed over at AT&T apparently. I'm waiting for them to activate the sports package... I may have to miss the first period.

you're 100% correct about that, i agree with you. i'll give you that it's creative, for sure... however, to me, it's just not exciting and it's semi-pointless. Like you said, if they were competing for a playoff spot, he wouldn't have done it... therefore it's a gimmick... he's fooling around. I'm not going to go ga-ga over a trick shot that means nothing. "the best shootout goal in NHL history"??? please.

i guess i'm in the minority here... that was not exciting to me at all. there's so much luck involved there it's ridiculous. the obvious example is that his shot hit the goalie first, then flipped up and over... which is why the goalie is dumbfounded. He lost sight of it since it had already hit him, not because he was mesmerized by the move. To go even further, when the puck comes down, it bounces in the crease next to Budaj's leg, but somehow bounces backwards into the net. Lame. that puck could have bounced in any other direction and then all of us would say... well that was dumb, but nice try, i guess. to me, Ribeiro should save it for the all-star competition if he ever gets to that point... in regular season hockey, i realize the stars are done-for, but i'd like to see skill... not shenanigans. Give me Datsyuk frying Turco any day... now that goal was something to get excited about. Hardly any luck involved at all, just an extremely humiliated goaltender... and no show-boating included. edit: details

that was against colorado in the playoffs some years back. they were down during the second period by two or three goals and went on the power play i believe. they scored to bring it back within 1 or 2. i could be wrong but it seems to me like that game either ended or became tied by a red-line goal to beat osgood. don't you just love those?

i wish Z and Pav could swap their contracts.

I've taken quite a few friends of mine to LA Kings games this year. Most of which have never been to an NHL game. Usually people are surprised on how short shifts tend to be for forwards. I explain how hockey shifts are comparable to all-out sprints on dry land and it makes sense to be on the ice for only 40-seconds at a time. Anyone that plays hockey knows the feeling. Anyway, last night's game between the Kings and Stars was awesome. A huge comeback by the Kings and then an overtime win from the stick of Handzus... hat trick. In the last portion of the third period, I could have sworn Dustin Brown was on the ice for 3-4 minutes straight. Sure enough, I checked NHL.com today (unfortunately they don't have the shift charts anymore, but they do have TOI per player in text form) and Brown was on for the last three-minutes and forty-four seconds. WOW! Then I scrolled to Anze Kopitar... FIVE MINUTES, EIGHTEEN SECONDS!!! I realize Lidstrom and other D-men have some long ones but even they probably don't go over four minutes. Granted, in last night's game, the Kings were on the power play and in complete desperation-mode in attempt to tie the game... but either way, NHL hockey players continue to amaze me. By the way... at the end of his five-minute shift, Kopitar scored the game-tying goal and finally was able to rest the final fourteen seconds of regulation.

2 Things: 1.) Those two guys in the stands that stand up in front of the camera when Gretzky turns it over to Stevie and center ice... those two guys man, i wish one was me. They will forever be part of one of the planet's greatest sports moments. 2.) WHERE WAS MICKEY??? I wonder where he was during the '97 Colorado brawl. I'm guessing he was on his way to do the intermission interview... hopefully he got to see the fight in person. Does anyone know, without speculation, if that was the case?

i see that everyone is praising JLA but I HAVE sat in the corners where the seats level off and you're in such a tight cubby hole it's difficult to stand up without hitting your head on the ceiling. Yes, those seats exist and they're not comfortable... but hey, it's a Wings game, those conditions didn't bother me.

I had an INSANE time at the Wings / Kings game last night and thought you all might like to hear about it. This is gonna be long, but worth it... Hey, a LOT HAPPENED... I still think you should read it. 1. (this is the only boring part but it's vital to the story...) Brief back-story, I grew up in Ohio loving the Wings. Moved to LA and have begun to like the Kings as a distant second-favorite. I go to a lot of their games now, but the Wings are still my #1 and will be forever... 2. I was able to work it out that my girlfriend and I could shoot pucks at the net on the ice of Staples Center before pregame warm-ups. It was AWESOME! We brought along our Kings jerseys so the building personnel wouldn't get ticked about our red and white (although, we had our Wings sweaters with us for game-time). 3. Here's where it begins... A Kings intern walks us down to ice-level and we had to pass the Wings locker room. What's going on? The pre-game soccer ritual... Draper shout's "stop the game, stop the game" while Lilja jumps in a grabs the ball. There we are, my girlfriend and I in the middle of Draper, Lilja, Maltby, and Kronwall. (HOLY CRAP!) My girlfriend is frozen in her tracks. I'm shaking. WE'RE WEARING KINGS STUFF! Damnit! So we walk through the dudes, I'm getting off a couple, "Good luck tonight guys" and "hey man, have a good game." All of them were all smiles and super cool to us. When I was near Draper I leaned in and said, "Hey man, we're from Detroit, we're Wings fans but live here now." Draper says, "Well you have the wrong jerseys on!" and my girls says, "I know we do now, but look." She shows him the rest of the dudes are change of clothes... Red Wings sweaters. They laugh. It was awesome... then we went and shot the pucks at the net for 15-20 minutes (sorry to those Wings fans I scared behind the net when I shot one hard off the glass, I knew you'd laugh though!) They also gave us a sweet official NHL practice puck, one that we used when shooting on goal. 4. I uploaded some pictures of us on the ice at UncleHockey.com, we didn't want to bother players for pics and stuff, plus we were too star struck. So, after shooting pucks at the net we have to walk by the locker room again... PAVEL DATSYUK and Conklin have joined the soccer game... I had to say something to the dude with the sweetest hands in the world, "Good luck tonight Pavel." He nods, again, all the dudes are all smiles, being super cool even though we've disrupted their game for a second time. I asked Ty, "Hey man, are you starting tonight?" He said yeah as he was stretching and warming up. I said, "all right! good luck." Maltby laughed behind me, I can't help but think it's because of us wearing all of our Kings stuff... Conklin might have thought I was being sarcastic... I should've told him I was feeling a shutout. 6.) As we're getting back to our seats, another Kings employee stops us and asks if we want to be in a contest during the intermission with a chance to win a Toyota... an obvious "Hell Yes!"... Then we throw on our Wings jerseys and watch the game. 7.) At the middle of the second period, we switch back to our Kings jerseys getting ready for the contest. Again, not wanting to piss off Kings personnel... Between the 2nd and 3rd period, Megan and I have to go down to the ice again. She stands at one end of the ice between the circles, me at the other. The place goes pitch black, sold out 18,000+, a spotlight on Megan, then one on me, and a third putting a perfect circle on the center ice Kings logo. We each get to shoot 10 pucks, person closest to the center ice face-off dot wins a prize. Person with the most pucks in the center ice circle becomes one of five finalists for a new Toyota Truck. 8.) For being closest to the dot we got a stick signed by the whole Kings roster... rad! I tried to do a cool hockey goal celebration when I won by dropping to a knee and doing a couple fist pumps. I didn't get any reaction though, I think people were upset that I just whooped on my girlfriend in a friendly contest... she's cool, she understood. (there's a pic of me and megan with the signed stick in the link above - notice our Red Wings jerseys. HA!) 9.) For having the most pucks in the circle we're getting tickets to the Kings final home game this year... between periods I'll be down on the ice with 4 other finalists... we'll each grab keys out of a hat... whoever has a key that starts the truck gets the new Toyota. That will be April 11. 10.) So we throw our Wings jerseys back on and head back to the seats... everyone around us were congratulating us and giving us crap about our frequent wardrobe changes. HOLY CRAP!!!! What a freaking day... I hope you enjoyed the story, sorry it was long.

She was wearing red because they made her wear a Toyota t-shirt... it was a coincidence that it was red. They let us keep that too... BONUS!
