ahhhhh hahahaha, might as well put my fat ass in for D-mac instead of Downey. Downey serves no purpose except to put a mediocre attempt of a fight on Ott. The dude sucks hardcore otherwise.

all goals are reviewable unless it's a judgement call. i don't get why no one understands this. the wrong call was made on Homer in game 4 but a review shouldn't be able to fix that. It would be like reviewing pass plays in the NFL to figure out if there was pass interference. It's not a black and white call, so it's not something that should be instituted into the game. i pick no-touch icing because it's the only one on there worth it's salt. they never really call instigator anyhow, but i could do without it i suppose.

would be a good idea if all hockey decisions were black and white. instead, we are left with judgement calls, and judgement calls (just like all other sports) are not reviewable. the calls that are back and white, such as did the puck cross the line, are all reviewed automatically, as they should be. therefore, throwing a red flag on the ice wouldn't be necessary. The rules that are in place (aside from the delay of game penalty on anyone clearing the puck over the glass even when not pressured) are good rules and I don't think it should change much. It would however be nice to have good referees that don't make calls due to reputation.

...because he's the worst defenseman on the team at moving the puck, makes many poor choices with the puck, and he also gives it away very often.

I'm not happy about the octopus that was thrown on the ice in Philly tonight once the Flyers put the icing on the cake with an empty-netter. This better not become a trend in other arenas... THIS IS OUR TRADITION! Then again, maybe there was a wings fan there and threw it intending to remind the Pens and Flyers that their doom awaits.
-
I tend to agree the more I think about it. The chances a Wings fan is gonna get tickets to that game, risk getting thrown out, and actually throwing that thing on the ice... I'd say the odds are awfully low that a Wings fan did that. My money's on the odds... Flyers fan being and idiot.

forgive him for wanting to play an active role as a true fan of the NHL. too much time on his hands? please, how insulting.
-
Yeah, we all hated that rule before, we don't want it back... however, that would have cancelled one of Dallas' goals in game 4, which would have been helpful.

this is a hard one because the reviewable calls / coaches challenges are for black and white plays. i.e. whether a foot was out of bounds... if the ball left the shooter's hands before time ran out. all of that is black and white. what you're asking for is a challenge on a judgement call. remember, the old rule which is now gone was black and white, and that was a goal being waved off if a skate was in the crease (think, the Brett Hull controversy in 1999). With today's rules about the crease, it's just like pass interference in football... strictly judgement and the ruling stands without the opportunity to challenge the call. I, for one, think the NHLs rules are in a good place right now (except for the accidental clearing of the puck out of play from the defensive zone in a non-pressured situation). I think the rule book shouldn't change on the goalie interference rule... However! I think the refs must do a better job and MUST NOT be prejudiced.

you must not have read my post in it's entirety.

i remember clearly ripping through the crease on that one... it wasn't a penalty and shouldn't have been. i think that's the time that Turco fell down and got caught well out of the crease. I thought if anything they were going to call Cleary for interference. Luckily the ref realized he was forced into Turco.

Keenan pulled that crap in St. Louis back in the mid-90s. He kept the ice soft when Detroit was in town. As for Dallas, there's nothing they can do about it as far as I know. And both teams still had to play on the same surface, so it's not like it was a literal advantage. But theoretically, there is an advantage since Detroit lives and dies by puck possession.

Better for this team to lose on or two heading to the finals?

agreed 100%... sorry, i didn't see this post before i posted my previous one. -

i was telling people before tonight's game that i wouldn't be upset if we lost. I really didn't want to head into the finals with some crazy winning streak. Heck, we've still never won 10 in a row... I'd rather get a loss or two out of our system before we sweep the Pens, ha. -
If you all missed it, rewind to the 2nd period with 8:07 left. Samuelsson skates around the crease, Turco puts the BUTT-END of his stick right to the face of Sammy. In the words of the classiest player in the league, Marty Turco... "It was a very gutless play, it's disgusting." Where are you Gary and Colin? I supposed since Sammy didn't Baseball swing his stick into Turco's chops, there will be no such fine. Marty Turco is a B*tch.
-
AGREED!!!! now watch what happened at the end of game 3... same exact thing. nothing would have come of it if it weren't for that retard Ribeiro chopping Osgood. Since Sammy didn't lose his cool, now the league will overlook the infraction. My point is inconsistency and it ticks me off. You're not going to change my mind, so quit with the insults.
-
If Sammy merely "ran into" Turco's stick... then what did Osgood do to Riberio? Did he pool-cue him in the face? I don't think so, Ribeiro ran into Osgood's stick too. this topic is to point out how inconsistent the league's discipline system is... but if you want Sammy to get in the face worse than Ribeiro did and you don't want a fine... cool. I suppose the rules can change from game to game if that's what you're a fan of.

For the love of god, look at the time of my post... IT WAS DURINg the FIRST PERIOD, the game wasn't over. For the love of God! Edit: I'm dumb for letting other jokers get to me. No reason to insult.
-
if it was goaltender interference, then why wasn't a penalty called?
-
Don't watch the butt-end, watch Turco's blocker from 8:10 to 8:07... he knows exactly what he's doing. Him moving his blocker in that fashion was meant to put his butt-end in a certain place. now compare that to what Osgood did... he put his stick in a certain place and the player runs into it. The only difference between Osgood's butt-end and Turco's is this... 1.) Ribeiro was skating much slower and therefore less of an impact between face and stick. 2.) Sammy didn't try to chop Turco in half in retaliation.
-
explain to me how it's goalie interference yet no 2 minute penalty on Homer. Where is that in the rulebook?
-
Stuart needs to leave... he sucks. He has no idea how our system works, he's always playing the puck away from our rush, he gives the puck away so much. He did the same thing here in LA, I hated him when he played for the Kings and knew it was a bad idea for Detroit. Sure he's big and occasionally hits people, but big deal, I'd much rather see Quincey.

I hate Bettman as much or more than the next guy... but the way the playoffs have gone is no way to judge parity. As for the playoff races, many teams were in the hunt in the last month of the regular season with many seeds changing weekly, that is what they wanted... Bettman knows all the playoff games will sell-out (well, if there not in Detroit) and most of the games will be seen by a national TV audience. It couldn't have worked out any better for the league... the plans have gone just the way they wanted... think about it, who do they showcase every weekend on NBC??? the Rangers, Penguins, and Red Wings. Well, two of those three are nearing the finals while the third was bumped by a premiere team. This is EXACTLY what they wanted... if the pattern continues, it will be Wings / Pens for the Cup. However, I still hate Bettman and always will.

he'd rather be a head coach instead of an assistant. big deal, that's what they're all working for, so give him a break. if you worked for IBM but were offered your bosses position at Apple, I'm sure you'd take it. Promotions are part of the business.

I agree emphatically with all of this, then I saw you used the Emrick phrase "dangle" and I'm turned off by the entire post. Dangle is not hockey word and I hate Emrick for trying to say it every five seconds. He's a retard.
