If you missed Coach's Corner this Saturday, you missed out on some laughs, if you don't already know Don Cherry (Grapes) made a comment a few weeks back about Ovechkin "over-celebrating" or basically bringing fun and excitement to the game once again. After hearing these comments, Alex continued to celebrate big and told the press Cherry would probably be pissed but oh well, then Grapes said he is better than that he needs to be a class player blah blah blah, then this Saturday in pregame, Alex was showing his love for Coach's Corner and Hockey Night in Canada, by wearing a RESPECT CC shirt, and HNIC boxer shorts lol it was priceless. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/hockeynigh...a/coachscorner/

Its time for Marty to pass Patty in wins, He is a better goalie and a better person, although along with Mr. Plante, Mr. Roy is the Grandfather of Butterfly and will forever remain a pioneer to the position.

There were plenty of other good Russians in that time, a lot more now but still it wasn't as common back then because of Russia's national position back then. On the Wings, your forgetting Igor Larionov, and Vyacheslav Fetisov. and I'm just wondering how you forgot Pavel Bure in the mix or Yashin?, of successful Russian's in the 90s not being biased but Russians are arguebly the best players in the world today when it comes to hockey, Don't agree look at just a few of the Russian's destroying the game today, Pavel Datsyuk, Alexander Ovechkin, Evegeni Malkin, Ilya Kovalchuk, Alexei Kovalev, Maxim Afinogenov Ukraine born Nikolai Zherdev. the list goes on and on also goaltenders Nabokov, Bryzgalov, and Khabibulin. and all jokes aside Nikolai Antropov is from Kazakhstan I'd take Nik and Borat on the Wings any day.

I agree with you Mind, We need more Russian players, I actually miss having Danny Markov on the team, he added a lot I thought. I also agree that nationality doesen't really matter a whole lot, except if you take into consideration the chemistry of players, All Russians play together well, is this because of national pride? or because they were born in the same spot of the world? no, its because Russian players all grow up playing a similar style or type of hockey. So in the long run, the more Canadians playing with Canadians will play better together, same with Swedes. Canadians and American's play well together because they grow up playing similar styles of hockey, great hockey players can adjust this but will always have better chemistry with their countrymen. oh and the whole lets draft from south America, Antarctica, etc etc, thing is old was funny the first time and it wasn't necessary to keep mocking Mind because of his opinion. my .2

Pavel had a awesome game last night, as most of you know, but for some reason he always plays well against his pal Nabakov not sure if its a friendly competition thing or what. He made great plays all night, and I think all were even strength as well. Imagine if Pavel, Hank, and Marian all were on top of their game then throw in are other guys who catch on fire at random times, and we would be really hard to match. Just have to figure out our goaltending situation. also Pavel's interview was great as well, I like when he was talking about his Christmas presents, then the guy interviewing him asked "well maybe 4 points against the Sharks is your Christmas gift", then Pavel says yeah but I want more gifts or something a long those lines. Classic Pasha.

I was just watching the latest version of coach's corner and couldn't help but notice Don commenting on Malkin being selfish for netting a empty netter to get the hat trick. How convenient that Malkin is not only a european player but a Russian as well. We all know how Don feels about Euros especially "soft Russians" Usually I'd just shrug his comments off like usual but this one I found quite entertaining considering I remember in last years playoffs, Malkin making passing the puck over to a teammate to get a empty net goal rather than shooting it in himself. So basically that tells me Malkin either just recently became a selfish player, I mean of course the leader in points and assist in the league right now is selfish. The player leading in points and assist and is ranked 31 in goals in the league perfectly makes sense to me. Just wondering if any of you remember the play last year where he passed when he could have shot it right in? can't wait to hear what Don has to say about the Avery incident this weekend .

Melrose, taking the job I'm not surprised, here is the million dollar question. Why would ESPN hire a person to provide "expert" analysis from a guy who got fired in the middle of the barely into season from a coaching guy from Tampa Bay of all teams. ESPN is a joke I swear. I'd rather keep NHL on VS we already have are mullet expert, our buddy Engblom,
-
?? ask Don. If I was the teammate and he did happen to pass instead of shoot, I'd pass it right back so he could get the trick, the coach probably specifically had him out their at that moment so he would have a good chance of getting the hatty. oh well its Don Cherry of course it makes no sense.

I never seen this happen before in the NHL, and figured I had to share, Montreal was playing The New York Islanders, the other night (Nov 24th) and the Islanders got a delayed penalty, Carey Price (Habs goalie) left the net due to the delayed penalty, Islanders were pressuring Montreal defenceman Ryan O'Byrne, and O'byrne accidentally shot it into his own goal to tie the hockey game. anyone else see this, and has anyone else seen it happen before ??

I was just completing my 50th or so time voting and was thinking everyone else on here needs to vote at least once if you haven't already to help our guys out. Get out and vote for Pavel, Marian, Henrik, Ozzie, and Brian. AND Mr. Lidstrom (Sorry I forgot to add you Nick) http://fanballoting.nhl.com/
-
I agree with you guys on Ozzie, I know I posted him up but the fact is he has been playing pretty bad lately. Our Defense hasn't been as strong as it should be either though. Also make sure to vote for Ryan Miller in the East.

your RIGHT!! opps, well I kinda figure that Nick don't need help though, hes pretty much on the all star team until the year 2025

I was down at the parade that day like many of you were too I'm sure and that was funny good times, I also heard on the radio on the way home, Jiri took a bite from a guy from the radio stations pizza and handed it back to him that same day. The guy from the radio said he was joking around saying here have a bite and Jiri actually took him up on the offer haha. oh yeah Illich was hilarious that day as well, he was smashed and I'm sure you all heard the "We Are THE Hockey Town ARGgEWWH!" hope we get to have all that fun all over again this year
-
the guy is showing a lot of heart, and obviously loves being a Red Wing, Hopefully him and Ozzie lead us back to the promise land

I was watching the highlights from last nights game and noticed something pretty funny, so funny I figured I share it with everyone and also see if anyone else noticed this also. at about 1:22, in after the canes break down and get a good shot on goal, the Canes fans were celebrating a goal that never happened, and the best part is you see a guy, at 1:22-:124 not even paying attention starting to high five, his buddy at the game for a home team goal, all the while the play is still going on, people waving towels in the air. priceless. www.nhl.tv then go to highlights, and pick Wings -vs- Canes, then watch real closely in the stands.

I totally understand what you are trying to get across, I just feel it went a little too far thats all. WAY WAY OFF TOPIC is all I'm saying, Myself, Kira and 13dats are mature enough to understand this. All I was ever saying was it got a little bit carried away for a picture thread, ignore the context of it being Pavel and poking fun, I don't think this thread was intended for that, the whole discussion about this is going no where as well so I'm going to stop. don't be offended just trying to let you know what I'm saying I can take a joke, Pavel can take a joke but sometimes things go too far and it just gets old. The place for all these comments would have been in the Red Wings look-Alike thread. have a good day everyone and here's to another successful season for our team GO WINGS
-
This is great news, Downey plays with all heart and I'm glad hes on the team.
-
I understand what your saying in a way, a little bit of joking around is fine but you guys took it way to far in my opinion, This entire post has turned into it, if you want a lets make fun of a Players looks thread make one don't come in a disrespect Dmitriy's thread of Pictures he shared from Pavel's day with the cup, There is a time and place for everything and making this thread into a Datsyuk Roast is not it. I'm sure your a good Wings fan but you don't talk about the looks of players, they are the most talented players in the world in one of the hardest sports to play in the world. have a little bit of respect and enjoy the championship they brought us. I might have overreacted a little bit, however I just ignored the first 3 or so post about it, until I came back the next day and seen a page full of them. if anything its not right to be this off of subject.
-
I was just thinking the same thing? whats up with all these people?? Obviously not very good fans when all they can do is talk crap about one of the players on a team that just worked hard to bring home a championship to them, then Dmitriy is nice enough to post pictures for everyone to enjoy and all they do is mock them? I appreciate the pictures Dmitriy and am sure a lot Pavel's other fans do as well including Kira (Pat). Can't wait for hockey season either man, going to be another fun year. oh and all the people "Judging" the pictures I say if its all in "good" fun then post some pictures of yourself then we can all talk about what things you remind us of? oh and I noticed Gary was in one of the pictures sitting next to Pavel, Go Wings
-
Awesome stuff Dmitriy, I'm waiting on NHL.tv to do a My Summer with Stanley bit with Pavel hopefully they do. Can't wait for the new season Pav is going to continue to dominate the league.
-
do you have the Dastyuk interview?? I was at Joe Vision and didn't get to hear what Pav was saying. I would really appreciate it thank you

Thosands of Canadian hockey players, viewers, and coaches all respect Don Cherry, the guy is a Canadian legend or is he? The more and more you listen to Don, the more you can tell he is just a bias Canadian "Goon Encouraging" ex coach. The guy can't say anything good about anyone unless they are Canadian, As we all know last game Pavel Datsyuk played amazing as usual and also stood up for some of his teammates, So what does Don Cherry do?? he says he didn't really punch him and mocks him on national television, all the while wearing a Lime Green suit. Yeah I'm sure thats a guy I would want to be for a ambassador of hockey for my country. I think someone is still a little bit bitter about Russia defeating Canada in the World Championship. also notice how he bashes Malkin for his statement of saying he was tired. If it would have been Crosby saying he was tired it would be a different story. Bias as can be and that means I give him no respect. View the video here

Personally, I felt and still feel both our Goaltenders could get the job done, Never Doubted Ozzie and didn't really think He would get his chance in the Playoffs either. Dom played ok first couple games, then messed up and played bad, Ozzie had his chance and has never looked back. I am impressed and how well Ozzie has played, It has to be really hard staying ready playing backup but he stayed ready got his chance and now he is unstoppable. Even though Dom played like dirt in round 1 I am proud of both of our goalies, They both had great seasons to get us to this point and Ozzie is bringing it home once again.
