I'd watch CBC instead of VS but you know they have got to be bias as hell, playing against Montreal.

john keating is way better at doing interviews, VS broadcast crew are a bunch of morons. with the exception of maybe Keith Jones. Pavel was kidding about the towel in the interview, and even if he wasn't I don't blame him, I would make the crummy VS network pay me for my time as well.

Tampa Bay is a strong team but I think they we'll be caught off guard about how good and how much depth our team actually has. Wings win tonight 4-2 Datsyuk continues hotstreak, and Ozzie plays a hell of a game. lets go Wings

  11. I know this is risky post, talking about such a praised Red Wing, and I know I'll probably get flammed for this and/or make some new enemy's but I keep seeing Gordie Howe's new book advertised on the Wings broadcast, and I can't help but wonder why is Gordie so money hungry? He has been Retired for how many years now, and I still see items of his for sale all the time, books, pay signings, auction items, buy this Howe, Mr. Hockey that. I know the guy is a legend but come on. The Great One doesen't use his name that much to cash in and he very well could. Yzerman on the other hand, is modest and is not making any money on his name and we all know how much money he could make just by putting his name on it, or signing autographs. Thats why Steve is in my opinion the greatest Red Wing of all time, over Howe. I know Steve had the furniture line which yes was pushing things a bit, but you haven't heard of anything Yzerman related coming out and for sale. Steve retires and they release the comemorative book 19 which is understandble he just retired, now Howe comes out with a book entitled "9" ? Rip off if you ask me trying to make a fast buck and copy what Yzerman had going. anyways sorry if I offended anyone with this, I love the wings and agree Howe was one of the best ever, but he still seems money hungry after all these years. flame away

    McCarty is alive!

I agree I see what your saying with employing all the ex-players and thats true but D-Macs situation is different. The guy has a gambling problem and its only his fault but he did almost have to sell his championship rings to pay off his debts thats a sad story. Has a family to support, and now hes not playing the game he loves, its a downward spiral for him and it seems to be getting worse. The only thing he has going right now is Grinder. a band that wouldn't be as big without them saying "its darren mccarty's band" I know he had to have been thinking of all the good times hes had on the ice and probably hoping he was out there playing with his pals Drapes and Malts. I'm sure when the time comes, the Wings organization would find something to help him out, the guy has a heart of gold and has Cancer foundations, he helped those in need when he could now, be it his problems are caused by himself. He is the one in need.

Anyone else think Gordie Howe is a little money hungry?

thanks for all the comments guys, great thread it turned out to be. I agree with him not getting paid well in the old days, and maybe it is his wife but the guy seems money hungry thats all. All the other old players from that era are not cashing in on everything like he is. You never hear any news about the other legends as much now. but I agree let him make his money but he doesen't have to go overboard either charging that high a price for a autograph screws the fans over in my opinion. Not right but nessacesary I suppose. maybe its his wife who knows. I really enjoyed the story about Ted Lindsay also. sounds like a great guy. good thread and a lot of smart hockey fans on these forums

    McCarty is alive!

Watching the game last night, the camera guys went on Darren and showed him watching the game alone, and he looked really sad, I felt so bad for the guy. Hes had a tough time the past few years and I wish we could get him back into the lineup. He was happy here and made a lot of people happy, he was one of the most loved Red Wings, even though he wasn't the most talented offensivly, he scored one of the most important goals in Wings history, and he delieved justice to Clude Lepuke, for Draper. Good hearted guy that got tied up in gambling and let it get the best of him. Notice he was wearing a lions t-shirt and his grinder hat. seeing that sad look on his face almost made me want to cry, and I'm not a emotional person.

Should we go after Jaromir Jagr ?

Love Jagr, grew up watching him play and he was amazing, and still is a elite player but he will be asking for too much money and we have better options. but for the right price, I'd take him in a heart beat, don't know if he would mesh well with this team though, never know, him and hulder could be deadly.

    Big Bert...

I'm glad we didn't keep this guy, save the cap room for a player that plays night in night out

Why the Second was Better than the First!

both goals were great. Second one yes he went through three of their players, but the first one he put a move on that took the players right out of the play and beat Kipper with a amazing shot up high glove side. Pavel is the man

    Hockey songs

all good choices above, as much as I hate, I mean that in the best sense HATE, the Ducks. I am a Pennywise fan, and love how they use the Bro Hym for their goal song, someone else was saying the Flyers do as well but not sure. also like the Habs goal song forget what it is. and don't forget the Hurricanes, Rock you like a Hurricane being played during the playoffs. 80s rock haha also wouldn't mind hearing Kalinka during a few games.

Best Current Era Red Wing Team

tough one here, 96-97 team was amazing good and played as a complete unit, a perfect machine. however 2001-2002 was argubly one of the best teams ever, it was sort of a Cash team but none the less stacked full of best, young and old players. The roster read almost like a all star teams

    Datsyuk's Goal

well said , I'm with you entirely on this one Gord scary huh? I think Datsyuk would be better off playing center as well. It would give him more room to setup plays from both sides, and not restrict him to the left. For some reason though Babcock doesen't like having Z on the wing, but I believe Z has played their well over the past few years,we'll see how things go. Datsyuk should pick up some goals soon though he has had a ton of chances but nothing was going in for him. As long as one of our guys is hitting the back of the net, I'm good. lucky bounce yes, but garbage I don't think. take care Gord, I'll see you around the forums as always.

    Datsyuk's Goal

As I knew you would appear to call me on it as well It has nothing to do that, it could have been Filppula and I would have said the same thing, and hes a Fin. I play goalie and don't consider every "weak" goal I allow to be garbarge just because "I" should have saved it?? Every goal should be saved in a goaltender mindset. so as someone stated above not all the players in the league can put a shot on goal from that distance, I've seen players miss a wide open net from the hashmarks. so with that said I think yes, it might have been a little bit of luck, but that doesen't mean Pavel wasn't trying to score and his shot was garbage, Garbage would have been a wide shot bounced off the back of the boards and coming to the front of the net, and off the goalies skate in that would have been cheap. anyways good to finally have a good old fashion debate with my pal Gord-Sid-and-Ted. you've expressed you thoughts on the goal, what about the ones who think Pavel is in a funk, while he is in the top 15 in assist? the D-Z-H line will be ok, how can anyone on the hottest line in hockey be in a slump?

    Datsyuk's Goal

First off, it wasn't a garbage goal in my opinion, he shot it on goal from the blueline and it beat Legace clean, yes it took a weird bounce but Legace should have saved it and didn't, not a garbage goal . secondly, you talk about Pavel being in a funk?? the guy is averaging a point or more in every game?? Just because he has not scored as many goals yet, doesen't mean he is not contributing offensively. He prefers to set others up over scoring and he has done just that, Homer and Z wouldn't have scored as many goals as they have without the help of Pavel setting them up brilliantly, don't take it wrong, Z and Homer will score no matter what not trying to take it away from them, but Pavel does more than most give him credit for. Same as Cleary that guy bust his ass every night and scores in streaks but that doesen't mean he is in a funk, he contributes in other ways to help the "TEAM" win. for anyone who has not seen the goal or what like to see it again, you can see it at nhl.com or go to Pavel's offical website www.datsyuk13.com and check out all the other cool Datsyuk videos.
