I hate to admit it, but Malkin and Crosby have both improved since last year's playoffs; they are gonna be a load to handle if we advance and meet them in the finals.
-
That was actually a good read. I saw Kane and Toews at the NHL Awards last year; those two have a helluva future ahead of them.

This is a great read as well.

LOL @ the TSN panel saying that Lidstrom is 'gooning it up' Another shaky effort by the skaters but it looks like we're starting to come on. -
Got to watch to game at an unofficial Red Wings diner in Toronto today (Detroit Eatery on Danforth St. for those of you living in the Greater Toronto area) and had a great time. Quick thoughts on the game; I don't think I was too nervous because it never looked like Chicago were in control defensively. Both teams played with fire but you expect that in a wide-open game. Our PK still sucks but after putting up with Anaheim it's clear our forwards are salivating at all the holes in Chicago's D.

With his demeanor, work ethic, leadership skills, Toews is the closest thing to Stevie Y. in today's NHL. I'd love to see him wear the winged wheel.
-
Arguably the 2nd best power forward in the game today (after Ovechkin). I don't really like him but unlike Perry, Pronger or Neidermayer I'd cheer for him instantly if he were a Wing.

GDT 2009 WCSF GAME 7: Ducks 3 at Red Wings 4

Thank god we beat the *ucks. For the while there in the 2nd the zebras were doing everything they possibly could to get Anaheim back into the game (that penalty on Hudler was a *uckin' disgrace). 8 wins to go!- 1,913 replies

And with their backs against the wall the Pistons fall short by 21 pts. Is this the end of this group as we know it? -
WCQF GAME 4 GDT: Red Wings 6 at Blue Jackets 5
Cruiser008 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Well it was a hard fought series.....oops I mean game.... oops I mean last couple of periods..... but the team with more experience.....and more skill.....and better goaltending pulled it out at the very end. Good to the Wings get a mini-wakeup call in the 2nd period, and I'm glad Detroit has about a week to rest up. -

LOL that exchange is yahoo-blog-worthy. -
My thoughts as well. Of the 3 lower seeded teams Columbus is the best matchup for Detroit IMO. I'm not saying they're the weakest opponent as I can see the BJs scoring an upset in 6 if the Wings continue to play inconsistently like they have for most of the past 5 months. However the Wings have 3 important factors going for them in this series: 1) Nash is Columbus's only elite offensive threat and a huge target for the Wings to shut down (easier said then done though as Nash has historically excelled against Detroit). 2) Mason may win even win the Vezina, but he is all of 20-years old and a rookie. Teenage stars playing in their playoff debut do not have a great track record. 3) Detroit's PK has been atrocious but Columbus is dead last in the NHL on the PP at 12.7%. The Wings will have a chance to work on their defensive coverage on the penalty kill and should win the special teams battle. Given Detroit's past 1st round struggles (we've been upset in the first round 3 of the past 7 playoffs) I suspect we'll split the first 4 games and have some hairy moments, but my prediction is that Detroit takes it in 6. If Detroit avoids the upset they will be in a better position to win the cup going forward after this test.

Go Blues Go!!

Go Anaheim go! (I'd MUCH rather play Columbus because IMO less travel really pays off as you go deeper into the playoffs).

2008-2009 NBA Season Thread (Pistons trade for Allen Iverson)

Iverson is done for the year!! Now if we can just miss the playoffs and get that #1 pick... -
Just had to share this huge Trade Deadline Deal in one of my fantasy leagues. I get: Marian Hossa Henrik Zetterberg Johan Franzen Jay Bouwmeester Evgeni Nabokov He gets: Sidney Crosby Eric Staal Ryane Clowe Dennis Wideman Niklas Backstrom He may have a slight fantasy edge in this deal but I need goals and wins so it makes sense... plus now I have 4 Wings on my team and I get rid of Crosbaby.

So the 'stons beat Boston on the road sans AI. Let's all say it together: "We're better off without Iverson!" -
So that if Kronwall and Stuart are still struggling in the playoffs you can move Two of Lilja/Lebda/Acquisition X to the 2nd pairing. Also in case there's an injury you can slot him in instead of Meech or Chelios.
