I haven't been a frequent poster around here in almost 6 or 7 years, but WOW. Forget defense.... we are still gonna be very bad next year, but the future begins NOW.

04/09 GDT : NJD vs DRW : 5 PM ET Last Game at Joe Louis Arena
Cruiser008 replied to NerveDamage's topic in 2016-17
Haven't been around these parts in ages (looks like my last post was 3 1/2 years ago) but just wanted to say the Goodbye to the Joe ceremony was amazing (thank god Fox Sports Detroit posted the entire ceremony on youtube). So many great memories and so many former players from the 80s, 90s and the 00s - and not just the stars either. Loved that even the players were soaking it in with many waving to their family in the stands and recording the moment on their phones. It was sad at parts of course as it would have been so great if Gordie and Mr. I. were still around, but if anything the ceremony reaffirmed to me the Red Wings tradition will always live on. From the crowd to the speeches to the final hockey stick salute from the players to the fans and vice versa, it was everything the Wings and the Joe stood for. What a franchise, what a place, what a city. P.S. Come home Stevie! -
Great to see Patty Wah back in the big show. No one blows gaskets like he can, and even though it only took one game to witness his first 'episode' it's not all that surprizing given the Ducks propensity for bush league antics.

TSN's Onrait & O'Toole, comin' to ya.

Used to live in Canada (until last summer) and I think Jay and Dan are AWESOME. The American audience (including myself) are gonna enjoy them IMO. -
Even though this is a hockey forum I just wanted to pay tribute to my favorite basketball player of all time. Though he never won a championship and only played 6 years for Detroit, Hill in his prime was arguably the most explosive and dynamic player to ever wear a Pistons uniform. Moreover the guy epitomized class and professionalism on and off the court. I'm glad he was able to retire on his own terms, and as a Pistons fan I thank him not only for his efforts for us, but also for the fact his sign-and-trade to Orlando for Ben Wallace began Detroit's eventual ascent back to the top in 2004.

WOOOOOOO!!!! Most unexpected series win in all my time as a wings fan. Can't believe how much our depth forwards and green D stepped up in this series. -
Samuelsson on the top line tonight - god help us all !

Agreed. Sammy was terribad today. -
Fun thread even if the OP wasn't the octopi culprit. Watched the game at a bar with 0 other Wings fans, or even hockey fans for that matter, and still enjoyed every minute of it.
-
Excellent summary by the OP. It's pretty amazing for me to see how far they've come from opening night (quick refresher: they lost 6-0 in a game that I drove 3 hours to attend) to where they are today. They are still way too reliant on the magic of Dats and Z, but it's a joy to see that the future is not all doom and gloom, and the progression of the next generation of the Winged Wheel is coming along nicely.

Wings need to look harder. Our D is atrocious right now... like 1980s bad.

WOOOOT! I was at the game on Saturday and I'll just state the obvious; watching this one (albeit on TV) was so much more enjoyable. Ever since Lidstrom's retirement (and Detroit's subsequent failure to acquire decent reinforcements) I've accepted that this would be a tough year for our D and special teams. The first couple of games have comfirmed this for me, but I'm still glad as hell hockey is back and seeing how mediocre we are now actually makes me savour these normally forgettable regular season victories a lot more.

Exit interview with legendary Red Wing Nicklas Lidstrom

Excellent read. Thanks for the link Jack! -
F*** yeah!! What an awesome sendoff by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the people of Detroit!
-
Saddened but like Nick I kept it together *sigh*. Well it's been a fantastic 20 years.
-
Damn.... the first Wings game I ever watched on TV was during Lidstrom's rookie year. I'm deeply saddened right now. All good things come to an end.

What a remarkable and unlikely Champions League victory for Chelsea... first coming from behind to eliminate Barcelona at Nou Camp and then repeating the feat in this final against Bayern on their home turf. Heck I didn't even think they'd make the Quarters after they lost at Napoli. Full credit to the team but especially to the mainstays for sweet redemption for the heartbreaking loss to Man U in the CL Final 4 years ago. P.S. What a crazy week for English soccer, first Man City and now this.

Awesome SI Covers! Really makes you appreciate how lucky we are to be Wings fans. -
Congrats to Manchester City for a win for the ages. One of the craziest finishes to a title race I've seen in any sport.

I hope they can come back and win this, but I'm convinced they deserve this after watching Nashville score the go-ahead goal on that YAWNING CAGE. -
#5 Philadelphia Flyers vs. #4 Pittsburgh Penguins
Cruiser008 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
This s*** is AWESOME! This game and this whole series is like being transported back to the 80s... goals galore, cheap shots, dirty hits, and no semblance of the retarded defensive schemes 80% of today's teams employ. Really hoping the Bettmans get swept in a few days, although a part of me will be saddened that we won't see another series like this one in this year's playoffs. -
Thanks a tonne to drumnj for uploading the videos! Was a pleasure to get a glimpse of the perfect human.
