A d-man's first priority is defense, which Schneider isnt too good at anyways. Have you looked at our 2nd line recently? Oh wait - it's not there. Lang and Bertuzzi are 2nd liners, but both arent playing too good as of late. Using money from Schneider's lost contract towards a forward/goalie would be much more beneficial. I'd also like to see Sarich get $4mill....

Q: Why would SJS give up a young, cheap starter for a first rounder? SJS isnt the Flyers - they're a contender and would give up Nabokov before Vesa any day of the week. They have similiar skills and Nabokov makes what, $6mill? They arent shopping Vesa.

Sarich WILL get less than Schneider this off season. Schneider nearly had a career year last season(or did he?)... If he doesnt take a paycut to stay in Detroit, which I doubt, he should be gone. Or Holland will just overpay for him like he always does, but lets not worry about that. Sarich would replace Markov, anyways. Markov is too old and brittle. Sarich is everything Markov is, but 2x better and younger. Schneider does have a CANNON from the blueline, but that can nearly only be used on the PP. Money saved from letting Markov & Schneider walk could be used towards a 2nd liner, who can make much more offense during ES & PP than Schneider ever could. Sarich, Kronwall & Lebda can all become/are capable point men. I'd really like to see Lebda get more of chance on the point. He has the wheels to get the puck back into the zone quickly if it is cleared and can actually get it deep without dumping it in. Every team doesnt have two cannons on the blueline like we did last season and do fine, also.

Why would anyone suggest putting a forward on D when we could call up a real defensemen? He isnt that good defensively. Maybe Draper/Maltby/someone, but why would we ever choose HIM?

Except Kindl cant go into the AHL until he's like 21. Some of you people want all our prospects to rot in the AHL until they cant anymore... I wonder if Crosby should have spent 3 years in the AHL, y'know - get that extra experience, right? Kindl was 19TH OVERALL! He's one of our top prospects, he almost made the NHL last year. Schneider ISNT that important. I'd much rather lose Schneider and get an actual 2nd line forward. We have one of the best defenses in the league - Schneider is expendable. Schneider IS better than Kindl, but the Wings were STILL 1st in the West last season. We can stand to lose Schneider to get prospects in and spend more $$ on our non-existant 2nd line. I think between Kronwall & Lebda getting another year of experience and Kindl coming up(and Lilja doing a lot better), we would be able to take up most of the slack left by Schneider. You would seriously take Markov/Schneider(old + higher paychecks + possibly more offense) over Sarich/Kindl(young + cheaper + possibly similiar offense + grittier + less injury prone + extra money for another signing) ? If Kindl does actually come up and stinks it up on offense this season, then we would still have more money for another signing, and still be relatively fine. Like I said, Wings were 1st in the West this season - we can stand to go down a bit if needed.

Ok - what's your point? We get him for 5 years still. Do you want to waive him? Whoever will be 7th D-man will get plenty of playing time with 45 year old Cheli & Kronwall in our defense.

It all depends on: 1. How much Schneider asks 2. If Chelios resigns 3. How Kindl/Quincey/Meech look in camp We DO have players that can man the point. Kindl can and RWC says Meech has a good point shot and PP ability. Look at the SJS rookies that have stepped in(Carle, Vlasic). I think the main concern of the Wings this offseason should be SARICH! Sarich could man the point, too. Markov is old & injury prone. Lose Markov and get Sarich, who's better than Markov, younger and not injury prone at all. We're starting to get a logjam in defense - time to cut Schneider & Markov loose. We'd save $$ by replacing one of them with Kindl, which could go towards a 2nd liner/goalie. Lidstrom - Sarich(~$3mill) Kronwall - Kindl Lebda - Chelios Lilja(Kindl/Cheli)

How would we sign those players, if they retired the year after we acquired them? I guess I'm kind of indifferent to Bert, but I'd like more players like him on our roster obviously. I would really like to see Bell on the wings. He's having a bad year in SJ and I'm sure would be cheap.

Lilja & Maltby really didnt look too good today. Lilja had a few blatent turnovers.. Sammy looked OK. He had a few good plays of protecting the puck good and obviously the shot to give Dats teh goal. He was still trying to get that puck through 4 Sharks and Nabby from the blueline though.

Lang almost got that shot through Kipper's stomach, you guys!

Yeah, but there are plenty of power forwards just like Bert that we can sign this season and keep the draft pick. One star power forward - check One potential NHLer - check or One star power forward

People say it's not a deep draft because there's no superstars in it. We have done pretty well with 2nd rounders and the more the better, especially if we lose more picks for Bert's involvment in the playoffs. There's nothing that special about Bert that some other power forward could do, possibly even better.

I'd rather get someone else that can take his place that would possibly drop the gloves more. We also have to give up a 2nd to keep him, you guys remember?

Maybe Z could set up a few one timers for once. How many GOOD one timers have we had on the PP all season? 2? Lebda had a nice one in one of the last few games..

I was suggesting Lebda on the point since they put Sammy on it. Lebda can play defense, has the speed to get the puck back to the zone fast, can actually get INTO the zone and not just turnover/dump it in like Sammy, probably has a better shot.

Hasek should worry about PLAYING GOAL and not causing penalties which result in goals. Our best PKer is him.

Bert probably looked better than Z.. He was hitting quite a bit and looked fine. Some of you need to figure out that we traded for Bert for the playoffs and HE'S PLAYING. I was really dissappointed in Z... I hope he can begin to pull it together.
