  1. Big trade in the OHL today with Cory going to a Memorial Cup Contender in Brampton.

    To Brampton: Cory Emmerton

    To Kingston: Justin Levac,

    Thomas Middup,

    2nd and 3rd round picks in '08,

    2nd and 5th round picks in '09,

    6th rounder in '10

Thats a lot to give up for 1 player who has been slumping a bit this year, although he seems to be picking it up a little lately.

  2. Actually, I'd rather talk about how quietly Brett Lebda is developing into a steady and smart d-man.

He's played very well the last couple weeks, and last night was one of his better nights. Chelios and him broke up everything Montreal threw at them.

    I still can't beleive that Lebda's a +9 !!!!! Thats only 1 behind Dats and Zetts..

He's only 3 behind Lidstrom. That just seems so weird

  3. Agreed. Those players are few and far between these days. The ones who are out there aren't going to be had for anything less than top dollar. Who or what would we be willing to give up to get such a player? Would it be worth it?

As for toughness and the playoffs, I am sure someone said it before, but there is a distinction between someone who can get dirty in the corners, take crosschecks and cheap shots, and come back for more and someone who throws right hands like Kocur used to. Do I wish we had a fighter? Sure, but he better be able to do more than fight.

After Homer took that hit from Pronger and Neidemayer, got stitched up, came back in the 3rd period and made the impact that he did in the game, I would take a team full of guys like Homer and Cleary rather than guys like Laraque and Boogaard. Homer IS a tough SOB.

I would also take a team full of Cleary's and Homer's over Boogaard's or Laraque's.... but I would denfinetly take Boogaard over Kopecky or Maltby... playoffs or not...

like Scneider said about "Nuclear weapons"(enforcers)... if the other team has 1 you want to have 2, maybe that has something to do with why he chose to go to Anaheim.

Does anyone remember Lecavalier vs Iginla in the finals? Oh wait... I forgot there's no fighting in the playoffs...

  4. QFT

This team may have mild levels of gritty players (if you all want to consider that) like Drake or what not, but in no way does this team have team toughness. Not at all.

Example: Ryan Johnson (St. Louis) runs over Hasek flat to the ground, and not a single guy goes over and defends him. Team toughness is when someone, even if not a fighters, goes over and drops the gloves and defends their teammates. Not wait around like dogs and let the refs make a call.

Another example: Ville Nieminen (St. Louis) runs over Lebda with an extremely obvious cheapshot. Who defends him? Nobody. I give credit to Chelios for trying to do something, but it's pretty pathetic when the rest of the team is so weak that a 45 year-old has to go over and straighten things out. And even then Chelios didn't actually fight. Not that I really want him to be the one to do that, but somebody else should have.

Example #3: Raffi Torres (Edmonton) comes barreling into Williams like Fred Flintstone running to start his car. Does anyone come to the aid of Williams at all? No. Not a single person did anything. They all stood around and waited.

I could go on all day about the millions of examples of how the Wings do not have team toughness. Team toughness is when you go out and defend your teammates if an injustice is taken upon them. Not sit on their hands and wait for Colin Campbell to hand out a meek 1-game suspension.

The Wings may have some (by some I mean few) gritty players, but they don't have team toughness by any stretch of the imagination.

Or when Franzen got a late hit from Willie Mitchell that knocked him out cold... Thats when the team toughness came out and they facewashed him... oh wait...lol

  5. So they shouldn't stick up for their teamates because they are grown men??? Let me guess... they will get them back on the scoreboard right? lol

That sure did a lot of good against pronger. They really showed him...

They shouldn't have went after Lemeuix either? Maybe Maltby should have gave him a good facewash to even things up...

Probbie, Dmac and Kocur all scored some huge goals for us in the playoffs.. why... because those are the type of guys that play with their heart on their sleeve. These are the type of guys that we need(will stick up for teamates NO MATTER WHAT, can skate decent, as well as score an occasional goal).

I'm all for signing a Boogard type as the 13th forward... Obviously I would rather have another Probert, Dmac or Kocur. But it seems these type are too hard to find nowadays or aren't a priority for us. But if I had to, I would definetly settle for a pylon with fists like bricks. It's not like an enforcer has to score anyway, they just need to be able to skate and not cause goals against, and Im sorry... but having Lilja as our protection just isn't gonna cut it.

I don't know who's played hockey and who hasn't but when an opposing player take's a run at your goalie or cross checks one of your star players... and your tough guy beats the crap out of him. It creates a huge adrenaline boost for the whole team as well as teaches the guy a lesson that he can't get away with that bulls***.

Maybe Im old fashioned a little, but who really doesn't enjoy watching a good hockey fight? seriously? Its a contact sport played with tons of emotion with players battling for every inch. When that happens there is going to be confrontations which leads to fighting every so often... which is why we need someone who can fight... so please kenny get er done

  6. agree 100% about Hudler deserving a spot over sammy. Bulls***... Sammy has already almost cost us a goal on the point during the PP. And what has Huds done??? Put up two pionts in his first two playoff games while helping his line sustain pressure in the offensive all the while playing sound defense.

Why doesn't he just play Lebda Lids and Scneider on the PP???? Seriously Chelios would be a WAY better choice than sammy.

sammy better get his ass in gear and show us why he should be in the lineup over Huds.

  7. I feel relieved as well... all those times sticking up for Datsyuk, saying he was injured last year, and the years before that he wasn't relied upon as being the go to guy.

It's like some of the weight has been lifted off my shoulders too.

Game 2 is going to be very critical in this series, and i'm sure Calgary will have a MUCH better effort this time around.

I'm glad that he is proving everyone wrong and hope he keeps bringing it all the way to the cup!!!!! GO DATS GO

  8. One of my good friends will be at this game tonight(big leafs fan)

He could have VERY easily tripled or quadrupled his money if he sold the tickets... He didn't, so I will be texting him all night if the leafs go down early.

The atmosphere tonight at the ACC will be INSANE.

I don't realy care who wins but it will be a really good game I bet on Hockey Night In Canada no less...

  9. The OHL guys are as follows:

Jakub Kindl(D)--- Kitchener Rangers... They played the Sarnia Sting in the first round and swept the series.

    Stats... 1goal-- 1 assist- +4-- and 4 PIM in 4 games played.

They now move on the face Plymouth in the second round the first game being tonight in Plymouth.

Cory Emmerton©---Kingston Frontenacs... They faced off against Oshawa, John Tavares' team in the first round.

They lost the series 4-1 but the real heartbreaker was game 2 when they were ahead 6-2 and went on to lose in OT 7-6.

    Stats... 5 goals-- 2 assists-- -6 and 2PIM in 5 games played.

They are now eliminated from the playoffs, as Emmerton has signed a 3 year deal with the Red Wings and may or may not be playing with Grand Rapids for their post season run.

On a side note... John Tavares scored 3 goals added 9 assists and was a +- of 0 in 5 games.

Jan Mursak(LW)--- Saginaw Spirit... They played Sault Ste. Marie in the first round and lost that series 4-2.

    Stats... 1 goal-- 2 assists-- 0+- and 10PIM in 6 games played.

    Eliminated from playoffs

Last would be Shawn Matthias©, I know he is no longer a prospect of ours, but I figured I would add him in anyway.

Belleville Bulls beat Ottawa 67's in the first round 4-1

    Stats... 5goals-- 3assists-- +2 and 4 PIM in 5 games played.

Pretty impressive I will continue to keep an eye on him in these playoffs. They now move on the play Oshawa in round 2.

    Next is the WHL

Darren Helm(LW)--- Medicine Hat Tigers... They played the Red Deer Rebels in round 1 of the playoffs and won the series in the 7th game.

Darren Helm scored the GWG in game 7 (2-0)

    Stats... 4goals-- 3 assists-- 0+- and 4 PIM in 7 games.

They now move on to play Logan Pyett's team (Regina) in round 2.

Logan Pyett(D)--- Regina Pats... They played Swift Current in round 1 and took the series 4-2.

    Stats... 3goals-- 3 assists-- +3 and 2PIM in 6 games.

Very good stats for a defenceman. They now play Darren Helm's Medicine Hat Tigers in round 2.

Jeff May(D)--- Prince Albert Raiders... They were eliminated by the Brandon Wheat Kings 4-1.

    Stats... 0 goals... 3 assists... -3 and 2PIM in 5 games played

    Eliminated from playoffs

Bretton Stamler(D)... Seattle Thunderbirds... They beat the Tri-City Americans in the first round 4-2

    Stats... 0goals... 0 assists... +2 and 10PIM in 6 games played.

They now play the Vancouver Giants in round 2.

NCAA: I cannot find stats anywhere, so if someone can help out there...

Justin Abdelkader... I know that he assisted on the tying goal in the semi-finals... they play Boston College in the Championship game of the Frozen Four.

    Summary:

    OHL:

    Emmerton--- Eliminated

    Mursak--- Eliminated

Kindl--- Moving on to round 2

Matthias--- Moving on to round 2

    WHL:

    May--- Eliminated

Helm--- Moving on to round 2

Pyett--- Moving on to round 2

Stamler--- Moving on to round 2

    NCAA:

Abdelkader--- Plays in Championship game (Frozen Four)

  10. Toronto ahead 4-1 with 16minutes left in a game they DESPERATELY need to win. 4-1 lead in the third period... ten minutes later they are down 5-4... So in a ten minute span in the third Buffalo scored 4 goals... WOW

I'd be interested to watch the game tonight (against Buffalo again) to see how Toronto responds, blowing a BIG lead like that has to hurt
