If Bean and McLeod are somehow off the board at 16, I'm definitely in the trade down camp. -
The Holiday tradition: 2016 Draft thoughts.....

Craig Button just did his mock draft, McLeod goes a pick before us to the Wild and we get Jake Bean. I'm a tad biased, because I got to see him play this year, but I PRAY that Craig is right and we get Bean. Exactly what we need, offensive D, big, fast, good passer and no slouch in his own zone. -

All I'll say to that, is do you really trust Blashill's opinion on not playing Smith and Tatar more? We were a bad team, that backed into the playoffs, that couldn't score goals. Then got waxed in the playoffs. I put more stock in the stats over this coaches opinion, at this point in time anyways. Back to rumors, Pierre Lebrun linked us to Lucic now that he's hitting the open market. I don't like him as a person and he's a massive piss baby on the ice, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't think a 6'4 tough as nails 20-30 goal scorer could help us. This market is shaping up to be one of the best since the initial lockout. At least up front, defence is pretty thin.. -

Yeah, of the two I'd much rather trade Nyquist. I just really like Fowler as a player. -

I'd trade Nyquist/Tatar+ in an instant for Fowler, exactly the type of defenceman we need. Not concerned that he's another LH shot since Kronwall/Ericsson don't figure to be here for much longer than two years at most.... hopefully. -

Speaking of Stamkos, Dreger is beginning to sound like a broken record: "I know that if July 1 were tomorrow, Detroit #RedWings would happily put down a seven-year offer at $10 million per. 1050" That's from this morning, after saying it yesterday too. But I also read reports that Buffalo would be willing to go 12mil PER YEAR, which is a non starter for me. Lots of questions going to be answered soon. -

They won't lose him. They can trade him at the deadline if Vasilevsky has proven he's the number 1. As of now, Bishop is the guy who gives them the best chance to win a cup and that's what Stevie's focused on. It's a different situation than Pittsburgh and us, where the young guy has already proven to be the name over the incumbent. -

As long as Rutherford doesn't cave and give away Fleury, the Flames won't have anywhere to turn but Howard. Unless they want to go with Reimer in FA. I doubt they'd have interest in Pavs contract, I think it would be Howard alone moving to Calgary if anything. -

Frank Seravalli makes a good point on Twitter: people using the expansion draft as a reason for Tampa to trade Bishop are wrong, his deal expires next summer so he doesn't need to be protected. Stevie isn't dealing from a position of weakness, why trade Bishop when you're a contender? -

The Bishop stuff is pure rumors, a TB insider talked to his agent and said there's been no dialogue. Bishop has a limited NMC, why would an American goalie on a contender want to go to Calgary? Apparently the price on Fleury is the #6th overall pick, which ain't going to happen. Kenny better be in there, Howard would have to be more affordable than the other two and would probably waive to go to Calgary just to be a starter again. -

Apparently the Flames were right there with the Leafs on Andersen talks and struck out, Kenny should be damn near giving Howard away if Calgary will take him. -

It's actually 5 million per season according to Bob McKenzie. One less team looking for a tender, and one less tender. -

Dreger this morning on TSN Radio: On what he’s hearing about Steven Stamkos, and what’s going on in his head as far as his future: “Well, there has to be a lot going on outside of his head and inside of his head. In the perfect world, this would have been dealt with prior to the start of last season, and it would have been a non-story all season long. He would have been extended. Everyone would have been happy. Aside from the injury factor, which you can never control, it would have been a terrific season for Stamkos and the Lightning. But that’s not the case. “I still believe he wants to stay with the Lightning. He wants to finish what he started. He wants to help this organization realize its goal of winning a Stanley Cup. But because of everything else around him, the pending restricted free agents, the unrestricted free agents a year from now – Yzerman has a plateful. “So what I’ve been told – and not by Tampa Bay or by Newport Sports, but some who believe that they’re in the know where this case is concerned – is that Yzerman has said to others that he can’t go above $8.5 million. So perhaps he boosts the term, and if the term gets boosted to the max of eight years, that’s a lot of money that Steven Stamkos is going to have to walk away from if he goes to free agency. “But again, to link Detroit back into this, and there’s a number of teams. I know we’ve openly talked about the Toronto Maple Leafs’ interest. I think Detroit is one of those teams that would automatically, if they could move the Datsyuk contract, put down an offer of seven years at $10 million per for Stamkos, if he gets to July 1. “So there’s $70 million versus… what’s eight years times $8.5 million; that’s almost $70 million, and you’re staying with the Lightning." -

I sure hope so. Holland and the media keep saying about this "one year" thing, yeah but that's not true. If you hold the space, you can't make an FA moves, let alone a big one like Stamkos, it would essentially mean the only additions are from GR. I'd love to believe Howard and Ericsson would be traded to free up space, but I just don't see it. -

Based on what Holland said just now, does not sound like Pavs contract is going to move. Maybe he's playing the media, but I'm not sure. If we have to eat that 7.5.... boy. At least we'll have a team full of kids I guess. -

Agreed. Even if it's just one of Ericsson/Howard+Pavs contract, it's worth it to have flexibility to reshape the roster. -

Back off the ledge boys, Bobby Mac to the rescue: "DET will trade contract first, acquiring team will terminate contract, take cap hit. Contract will get terminated, not by DET." Pretty important detail that Shannon left out, not cool.
