I may be one of the biggest Cleary fans out there, but if he gets re-signed for 3yrs at 3mil I'll be pretty pissed. A 2yr deal for 2.5 or less would've been all I'd like to see. I hope Helene is a bit off base. The Brunner # is good.

Red Wings won't pursue David Clarkson

Well looks like our FA target will indeed be Stephen Weiss. St James just published an article stating he's the guy there believed to be going after. Hopefully we get Brunner signed before tomorrow. -

That's a way to put it. The Flyers are just embarrassments to the league, use one of the biggest buyouts of the amnesty period, and then SIGN the other biggest buyout.. like come on Holmgren. -

Well, live on TSN Dreger just said he's working on getting details, but indeed the bumbling idiot of a GM Paul Holmgren has landed Vincent Lecavalier. I'm sure we'll hear the contracts details soon. -

If Holmgren gives Lecavalier 5x5 after buying out Bryz and Briere for bad contracts.... man. -

They were Ansar Khans words, but during the whole courting process he said the Wings may be reluctant to pony up the $$$ and term because they were concerned about Vinnys "pace". Now I really hope that's not the case, because if walked away because they didn't think he could keep up, but keep Samuelsson and Bertuzzi, on top of re-signing Cleary (which is likely to happen now), well then I'm just quite confused. Hopefully Holland explains his decision, and I'm really hopeful we sign one of the tough wingers on the market now, and not Stephen Weiss. -
Vinny would bring alot of size, heart and leadership. Not sure if we'd be interested or not, but if we can't get the big winger, wouldn't mind the big center.

Renaud Lavoie @RenLavoieRDS 6m Just learn that the Lightning will buy out Vincent Lecavalier contract. #RDS One of the big buyout questions answered.

Jammie wouldve been good a year or 2 ago, but he just doesn't fit what we need going forward. I like Ference, but I'd rather roll with the young guys for now.
-
No question about it. Darnell Nurse projects to be similar to Smith, and we'd still get another prospect at 18.

I can certainly understand trading back for more picks, especially because it's the Wings style. But this draft is as close to the 03 draft as were going to see in a while in terms of potential NHL prospects. At 18, guys like Horvat, Pullock, Mantha, Gauthier, Morin and others will be available. Would be nice to nab one of them.

I've been advocating signing McGrattan since early in the year, he's no Emmerton but he pounds faces!

Great game. Fantastic for all the Wings prospects to go through this. We'll be better off in the future because of it. -
2013 Stanley Cup Finals - Boston Bruins vs. Chicago Blackhawks

The one thing that really annoys me about the Toews talk, is everyone talking about "hard minutes" and "great defensive plays" Sure. But this is a Canadian golden boy, who gets talked about like he ALWAYS rises to the occasion when the pressures on. Oh yeah? That's why he was pretty much the 4th line center for the Hawks last night. I did some digging into Toews splits from 2010, when according to the "brilliant" minds in the hockey world, he became a big game player. Well I describe big games as Stanley Cup Final games. So, including the 3 he's already played in this year and the 6 in 2010, lets see what we get. 2010: 6gp 0 Even Strength Goals, 1 Even Strength Assists. 0 PP or SH goals, 2 PP assists. 18 shots, and had an average TOI of 21:24. 2013: 3gp 0 Even Strength Goals, 0 Even Strength Assists. 0 PP or SH goals, 0 PP or SH assists. 12 shots and has an average of 27:02. Big game player? Not a chance. Datsyuk played hard minutes for years but was called a playoff choker for years because he didn't put up the numbers, and because he was Russian. Toews because of his passport gets a free pass. It's crap, and the hockey media should be ashamed. Call this guy "The Tent" when it comes to important games, because all he does is fold up and crumble. -
Signed Datsyuk agrees to 3-year extension, $22.5m total, $7.5m/year
Detroit # 1 Fan replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
Datsyuk just announced it's official on twitter. Glad to know he'll be a Wing for life. Our window to win another Cup just got a whole lot bigger. -
Weiss would be nice. Gives us a legit 2nd pivot and could let Zetterberg and Datsyuk play together.

Can't complain about the price. Seems like a long shot Dano will be re-signed now. -
Calder Cup Finals Game 4 GDT - Syracuse Crunch @ Grand Rapids Griffins

Great GDT. I hope they get the sweep tonight, so I can stop paying attention to hockey this season on a high note! Go Griffs. -

Really happy to see this. Going to be such positive development for so many players who will be Red Wings in the near future. And with the influx of talent coming from junior and europe to GR next season, we'll be having the overripe prospects problem, in a good way, for the foreseeable future. -
2013 Stanley Cup Finals - Boston Bruins vs. Chicago Blackhawks
Detroit # 1 Fan replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Disagree. Stalberg is a big boy, Q should just instruct him to play like a wrecking ball and not worry about the post whistle stuff. Boston are gonna lay on the body shift after shift, game after game, and won't be dropping the mits. Not in the finals. Bollig is no Shawn Thornton, he'll see 4-6 minutes in the first half of the game, and none in the second half. Now, all the same, more power to Chicago putting in yet another potential stupid penalty into their line-up. I don't see this series lasting very long for the Hawks. -
Hey, if were talking hypotheticals here, whats to stop Chris Chelios from signing for the league minimum next year, breaking all his sticks every game and laying them across the blue line creating an impenetrable defensive zone so Detroit allows no goals against next season. /sirdrake Sorry, I saw the hypothetical statements and got nostalgic. I'd have to believe the NHLPA would ruin any kind of fun for players signing for less then market value, filing grievances and all that stuff. Plus it rarely works, like when Kariya and Selanne tried it with the Avs

That was an, um, different game. Glad the Griffins won, having 3 straight in Grand Rapids is huge. Mrazek came up big in the 3rd period. -

This a million times. The Hawks tried to be the bullies against Detroit and LA, but they won't for a second against Boston. Bickell and Shaw will disappear, and Toews and Kane will disappear on the score board just like Sid and Malkin.
