This is what I see facing Boston for Game 1 Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Abdelkader Nyquist-Weiss-Franzen Tatar-Sheahan-Alfredsson Miller-Helm-Cleary Glendening/Andersson Kronwall-Ericsson DeKeyser-Quincey Smith-Kindl/Lashoff/Marchenko Pretty, eh.

Signed Holland signs 4 year extension with wings **MOD Warning Post 130**
Detroit # 1 Fan replied to amato's topic in General
Where Lombardi doesn't get enough credit, turning those 2 into Richards and Carter. Truly, if Kenny could pull off even close to the types of moves Lombardi has, I bet we'd be a lot similar to the Kings in terms of sucess. Good drafters, solid foundations, but one team took the initiative to make moves to get better, while the other chose to stay stagnant. Really, my only beef with Kenny (outside of not being team enforcer ) is his inability to make us better through trades. -
I'm a fan of this guy purely due to the fact he spurned the s***-Hawks

As someone who isn't much for stats, something there good for is illustrating just how true things about the Wings are. We are horrible in the offensive zone at creating stuff. You hit the nail on the head talking about the rush, last year it seemed whenever we'd score goals it'd be river hockey style. 3on2 up the ice.... 2on1 back... 3on1 the other way... can't have sucess that way. From 06-11 we'd dominate in zone. We need to get back to the strong cycle game and criss crossing off the rush to enter the zone, we've become much too predictable. Hopefully the 2 new voices behind the bench can change up how we operate, at least a bit.

As someone who lives in Calgary, I can tell ya the fans like the make-up of the roster for one reason: If you're going to be bad, you may as well be tough. This Flames team will be in the McDavid/Eichel sweepstakes Hiller or not. As far as this thread is concerned, I was thinking about it today. I fully expect Zetterberg to return to elite status this year as far as points go with 80+. I'm not sure about Pavs, not having surgery kinda makes me wary for his knee, if he can stay healthy I'm sure 80+ could be in the conversation too.

Our break outs have been bad the last couple years. I'm sure the exact numbers would make me cringe. You go back and look at how flawlessly Lids and Raf were at getting the puck to the wingers in stride to get the attack going and it's just amazing. It's on both the wingers and d-men, but the better the pass the better the chance the winger gets out of the zone with the puck. GMR's right though, our wingers haven't been very strong the last little while either. Tatar and Nyquist both look like guys that'll be possession beasts (so long as they both have the puck )

Signed Holland signs 4 year extension with wings **MOD Warning Post 130**
Detroit # 1 Fan replied to amato's topic in General
Well, f***. 4 years is.... a long time. -
Wasn't comparing them at all. Just saying that 2 old, past their prime forwards, that do us no good for the coming season are gonna be in the starting line-up. Alfie was a good fit for the first half of the season, but was invisible save for the GWG against Pittsburgh in the 2nd half. I just don't see the point, this team isn't going to win the cup, I'd just rather see some kids in the line-up then Alfredsson and Cleary, that's all. He's a good player, just don't see what he adds to a fringe playoff team.
-
The scary part is Holland knows Alfredsson can't play 82 games, but seems more then willing to sign him. I wish we would move on, but we won't. #11 and #71 in the starting line-up, baby!

Who is YOUR most under-appreciated/unsung Red Wing?
Detroit # 1 Fan replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
He really was. He recruited Downey the following offseason and was said to be the reason McCarty launched his comeback. Grit! Truculence! Pain Train. -

Don't know how it got to this, but let us all bare witness to when the Pain Train was born: -
Hopefully his development path is like Bertuzzis'. When we draft him some people are skeptical, and then in no time he's a guy people are excited about. I just hope he can develop into something better then Ferraro (our last daddy's boy)

Who is YOUR most under-appreciated/unsung Red Wing?

I miss the good old days before Shea Weber scrambled Lils brains and he was the Pain Train™. Striking fear into the hearts and minds of opponents every night. He had that goofball Phaneufs number. The 2008 team was the closest thing to the 90's, 4 or 5 guys who'd willingly drop em in the lineup most nights. -
Candiens, P.K. Subban agree to 8 year contract
Detroit # 1 Fan replied to Euro_Twins's topic in General
The salary cap is gonna make the game s***. I like PK, and he's great, but 9 million? Yeesh. Safe to say Kronwall at south of 5 mil is the best contract in the league? -
2014 Offseason League Signings and Trades
Detroit # 1 Fan replied to Datsyukian-Deke's topic in General
Thank you. I say this all the time, Carlyle had 2 of the best defenceman to ever lace them up playing almost 30 mins a night on different pairs. I could've coached that team and won a cup. Plus they never get past us if our defense didn't look like - Lidstrom-Markov Quincey-Chelios Lilja-Lebda. And we forced em to 6 games and handed them a freebie in Game 5. (Carlye sucks and I still hate Anaheim) -
Signed Tatar Signs 3 Year Deal $2.75 mill AAV
Detroit # 1 Fan replied to marcaractac's topic in General
He could've been overpaid and I wouldn't have cared. Probably my favorite Red Wing at the moment, glad to have him around for the next couple years. -
Bring in Loiselle or Poulin as assistant GMs?
Detroit # 1 Fan replied to frankgrimes's topic in General
I'm all for some fresh voices, but not these 2. Both are Burkie cronies who were as much a part of the problem in TO as Nonis. -
2014 Offseason League Signings and Trades
Detroit # 1 Fan replied to Datsyukian-Deke's topic in General
It's a moot point since we have Quincey signed, but I definitely would've taken a flyer on Del Zotto with Babs teaching him. Guy has undeniable offensive talents, just needs some work in the d-zone. -
Hockey News: Detroit has the easiest schedule
Detroit # 1 Fan replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
People forget so quickly that we are TERRIBLE against bad teams. Remember all the barn burners vs Florida and the Isles last year? Easiest doesn't mean squat, if we still healthy we'll have a shot at the playoffs. But since we're bringing back the exact same roster as last year, should we expect the injuries to just go away? -
http://redwingsfront.wordpress.com/2014/07/11/renney-could-be-leaving-wings-for-position-with-hockey-canada/ I believe Khan has an article on it too. Well, wouldn't that be something. Bring back the same team, only to lose both assistant coaches in the offseason. It also mentions that the Wings have interviewed Tony Granato for one of the spots, which is funny because he and Babs once had a shouting match during the game where Lidstrom got injured in Febuary of 08.

And anyone who doesn't believe it is a cool-aid drinking hater

As a born and raised newfoundlander, Dano being the first to win the Stanley Cup, and with my favorite team no less, is my favorite. But the game winner in 09 and the penalty shot in 07 are great moments. I wish Dano had gone out on a high note so I could remember his best moments, not his falling down and IR stints.
-
I know he left Detroit on a sour note... but now that we have an offensive assistant opening, I hope we pursue Adam Oates. If anybody can give us a fresh look on the PP it's him. And I'm not sure if Granato ran Pittsburgh's defence or not, but he wouldn't be the worst idea in the world.

Rule Changes in the AHL (what the NHL has considered)
Detroit # 1 Fan replied to drumnj's topic in General
They're going to have the game of hockey ruined in 5 to 10 years. The OT rule is interesting, but if the other 2 make it into the NHL.... yikes. -
Confused on the direction of this team going forward
