They can simply return to the NHL whenever they wish, unless they sign for the SEL (Sweden) in which case the league doesn't allow it and any player signing there has to stay for the season.

Never performed well enough in the minors for someone who should have been desperate to get back into the big leagues. Clearly his attitude wasn't the best either as he's given up altogether! Won't be missed.
