That's Clutterbuck's jersey.
-
That picture shows the opposite. You can see his head but cant see his elbow or forearm. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HObjS14bPuU&feature=player_embedded#at=60 0.56 mark. Its such a clear cut angle I'm not going to say anything else on the matter. I don't even like Gillies.

Feel really bad for Joey. He had played really well until that mistake, which was unfortunate. He's a better goaltender than some on here give him credit for.
-
Clutterbucks hit was worse than Gillies. Only difference is Clutterbuck is one of those players that dishes out the cheap hits but when it happens to him he drops like a lemon. Gillies did what any player sticking up for a rookie who was hit from behind in his 2nd ever NHL game would do.

Abdelkader wouldn't make a difference. He's scared of Tom Kostopoulos.

I was speaking hyperthetically/jokingly of course Nothing worse than seeing a puck hit someone's face. I've experienced a slapshot to the head (in field hockey) and it wasn't pleasant. Still got a nice scar and absolutely no feeling just above my left eye. If they offered helmets or shields/cages in field hockey, I'd still say no though. Find them restricting. Anyways, this if off topic and for another thread one day.

Hudler is actually starting to grow on me I must be ill.

If there was ever an article that shouldn't be written...

Oh. I see your agenda. Trying to derail my thread into a Jamie Tardif discussion. -
An inch further down and it breaks his jaw. Why won't players wear full face shields?! If only Stuart has been wearing a face shield he wouldn't have broken his jaw *insert video here*

At least I'm not the only one who thinks he deserves a shot: http://griffinscentral.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=2162 His skating has come on leaps and bounds the past two seasons and he's now one of the most powerful skaters on the team. Has huge lower body strength, almost impossible to knock off the puck when he has it. Still think he would be the perfect replacement for Holmstrom.
-
Heard he was seriously considered for a call up recently. He might still have a chance.

We all saw Downey at the Wings Stars game right? Well the Griffins commentators were saying he'd been in Griffins doing some strength and conditioning work with Grand Rapids (his job there) but also held some after practice fighting sessions with Brandon Straub and Ilari Filppula. Ilari apparantly wanted to be able to defend himself, should/when the need arises. Doubt hes going to become a fighter all of a sudden. I like Ilari. He plays a physical game. Clearly doesn't like the idea of "turning the cheek" either.
-
I know, right? At his own request.
-
He's been taking fighting lessons from Aaron Downey.

Should be a decent game this. Lake Erie is one of the teams Grand Rapids need to catch up to to make the playoffs, so a win tonight is absolutely essential. Game starts at 7pm EST and is streamed live for those registered at http://www.redwingslive.net (click the Griffins tab).

Green's hit is the sort of thing you see in nearly every board battle. Stepan just didn't protect himself. Shouldn't battle with your face to the boards if you don't have the upper body strength to absorb all the pushing and cross checking you're gonna get. His retaliation was stupid. He's gonna get suspended. Rightly so.

Griffins won 4-2, not that anyone seems to care.
-
2-0 Griffins. That man again, Jamie Tardif off Derek Meech and iFlip, who got the second assist on the first goal as well. Ilari Filpulla and Jamie Tardif. Two guys who should be in the NHL.
-
Griffins 1-0 in the 1st after a inch perfect pass from Tardif found Tatar who fired it home.
-
Lets not forget our prospects down in Grand Rapids playing Lake Erie tonight at 7

I think the problem lies purely with the offense personally. There have been so many games where they have looked OK defensively but look like they couldn't score with an empty net in front of them. Johnson and Minard were brought in by Ken Holland to carry the offensive load up front and have just completely failed to adapt to the Griffins system, which begs the question why Holland signed them in the first place. Andersson, Coatzee and Raedeke have all come in for their first AHL season and have all been absolutely terrible. Coatzee and Raedeke especially have looked so out of their depth I wouldn't be surprised if they stayed in the ECHL next season. On a team like Grand Rapids when a tough grinder is your top scorer, you have offensive issues. The injuries to Grand Rapids, coupled with Holland refusing to fill out his own roster spots in Detroit this season, meant at times our depth has been so stretched we've had nearly 2 entire lines of ECHL players and rookies. It's basically been a mix of bad management on Ken Holland's part and a higher than usual amount of rookie prospects simply not being able to cope at this extra level. Lately, now everyone is back and has been for some time, Grand Rapids has looked like a team that could easily make a deep run into the playoffs, should they get there. Just my take though

He better be injured or something, because he's skating around doing very little all game every game and its starting to get annoying watch a big grinder refusing to grind. Maybe with 4 goals he thinks he's a scorer. But yeah, I'm sick of reading articles about him being an important physical presence and about his size. He has no physical presence and uses his size as much as Bertuzzi...but Bert at least has some skill. This isn't a knee-jerk post because we lost, it's been annoying me for months now. Where is last season's Abdelkader? The one who would finish all his checks at every chance and would never have just stood and watched whilst Brad Stuart got his jaw smashed by Tom freakin' Kostopoulos. Where I say? Ps. O.

Definately. Never in years has someone been so worthy of a beatdown by Wing. Gotta love the turtle as well. In terms of excitement, Datsyuk v Perry was the best...Eaves v Versteeg was a good one. Gotta love unexpected fights.

At least someone stood up to Ott. He was making my blood boil with the crap he was pulling, yet again. He's not even tough or a good fighter. Even Abdelkader managed a win against him. They played better in the final two when they started playing hard/pissed. Shame they cant bring it for 60 mins a game.
