2012 NHL Trade Deadline Thread - February 27th, 3:00 PM ET
CopenhagenWing replied to NeverForgetMac25's topic in General
The NHL needs to either push the deadline back another 10 to 14 days or revamp the points system. As far as the Wings go, I hope they stay away from Nash. -
To me, this is what comes to mind when Nash is mentioned. It certainly isn't hustle.
-
Well, so does Hossa, Kane, Selanne, Perry, Giroux, Jagr, St. Louis, Iginla...should I continue? Oh yeah, and the guy some of you want to package Franzen for.

Cleanups. And multi-million dollar assets don't visit the doctor you and I go to.

I'll give it to you, it's a 4-point game which is normally rare outside of division match-ups. As a Wings fan (and without sounding condescending) I'm not seeing it as much more than that, the reason being that even if the Wings get a win it will not do them any damn good if they lose the next 5 games. Vancouver can play .400 hockey the rest of the season and win their division fairly comfortably. But even though Detroit has been able to claw out a slightly bigger points lead in their division, playoff position is at stake for the Wings in every game at this point of this season. A slump could drop them to the 4-5 slot in the standings. To me, it is a match-up between two very good teams who play the puck possesion game I prefer watching but I'm not going to blow the importance of this game out of proportion.

1/17 GDT : Red Wings 3 at Dallas Stars 2 (SO)

Because of work I do not watch that many games but in the ones I do watch, I never really notice Ericsson. I'm of the conviction that if you do not notice your 3rd pairing D, they cannot be doing that poorly because you'd notice them when they mess up. Ericsson is +16 so far this year. Could he throw his weight around more often...surely would be nice but he has been better than most people give him credit for. -
at Don Cherry. Yeah, no Canadian has ever hotdogged it in a hockey game. EVER....

The Official NHL Suspension Thread

Incidents like this one are the worst ones. Bourque didn't skate hard enough to reach Backstrom in time to prevent him from playing the puck, so he throws the "lazy" elbow to convince his coach he's trying hard!? IMO this type of incident should warrant a longer suspension than the Cole hit on Abdelkader because it is an absolutely boneheaded hit to make. Same with Carcillo the other day. -
Rupp just pulls Kopecky away as if the ref wasn't even there.
-
The Wings had a player like that a while back. Played with #14, scored in spurts like most scorers and now a part of league management.
-
Yeah, congrats on having earned 3 more loser points than the Wings. That said, the Blues are doing well under Hitchcock. Playing in a strong division should keep the players on their toes more than if they played in the Central of 5 years ago.

Tomas Fleischmann was a suspect medical history away from being back where he started. -
One less win, three more losses, 1 more point. Baffling... Keep your SO sideshow if you want but a win should be two points and a loss zero points no matter how it came about. Zetterberg's back shouldn't be in danger tonight.

Only on LGW...

You and I must've been watching two different teams the last few years.

The Official NHL Suspension Thread

I think the NHL should take action in these situations as well. You want those types of plays out of the game, suspend the players who perform them, even if they miss. -
Discuss the topic, not the title of it.
-
Good fight, though. I watched a part of that game this morning after coming home from work. Pittsburgh feed... I guess the announcers are having their own competition to decide the biggest homer.
-
Maurice and Boudreau will be joined by Randy Carlyle soon.
-
Obviously, there's the rotation to consider but apart from that I'd put my money on a nagging injury. A healthy Eaves has more to offer to the team than Drew Miller.

Veterans Players Choosing to Wear visors/ Younger Players Going Withou
CopenhagenWing replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
AFAIK Franzen only wore one after his face got messed up in the Phoenix series. Wearing one makes sense to me. You only have one set of eyes and a long life to live after your career is over. Ditch the lid if you're going to fight, though. -
San Jose got some cap relief out of this plus Heatley has basically been a playoff no-show for a couple of seasons. When you dish out that amount of money to a player, as a GM you'd like some post-season production. While Havlat won't get you the same amount of goals as Heatley, IMO he's a better playmaker.
