This is a sad end to a career that was great and could've been even better. As Wings fans we almost have to hate Forsberg by default but the guy was an awesome player. Unfortunately, his own playing style contributed to a certain extent to an early retirement.

Are you part of Lebda's family or just on the payroll?

From 1979-1991 the league had 21 teams playing an 80-game schedule. Odd numbers can work.

I want Boedker.

Anybody else hear the HotStove guys dogging Crosby for still living in Mario's house?

Kind of hard for it not to be. Elbowing gets called when players get them up and/or out. Ovechkin's could hardly have held his closer to his side if he'd glued it.

Wasn't much Osgood could do on the 2nd goal IMO. F-up by Kronwall and the play develops before Osgood can get set.

While shrinking the goalie equipment should increase scoring, I'm not a believer of the high scoring games necessarily being more exciting than the low scoring ones. A 2-1 game can be just as emtertaining as an 8-6 game. Great defensive play and great goaltending are parts of hockey as much as great goals and passes to set them up are. I'd hate to see those parts be considered an afterthought because people are getting to hung up on scoring.

Columbus was leading that game 4-1 with less than 3 minutes to play when Boll got into that fight while Dallas was tied with the Kings when Morrow went after Brown. What the league is trying to prevent with the automatic suspension rule is the "We got killed on the scoreboard tonight so we're going to goon it up" type endings to games. And while Columbus won the Colorado game, Boll chose a wrong moment to "send a message."

Get out your wallets, guys. As much as I hate speculating in the conspiracy theory, I've watched games (non-Wings games) this season where the officiating was very inconsistent and did appear to favour the losing team.

Weight wouldn't have had time to adjust even if he'd wanted to. He is well into initiating the hit when Sutter lowers his upper body reaching for the puck.

The Wings won. GDT's are normally twice as long when they lose.

Having a "nose" for the net is a talent in itself. It's going to be interesting to follow Brunnstrom's season.

^Don't forget that Burke contends Pahlsson is from Red Deer.

Where's my check?

83 points (11 GWG's) in 02-03 is hardly washed up. Fedorov carried the Wings offensively, especially in the beginning of that season.

As BRTD said, handball is very popular in certain parts of the world, especially Europe. My parents played, my sisters played. I played on and off for 15 years (highest level I played at equates to Major Junior hockey). Handball is a fairly physical sport with little to no protective equipment. Whoever said it it boring should give it a try.

"In those big games - all playoff games - Sergei came and he came hard. And people would say,"Why doesn't he do that all the time?" My opinion was, he's like a racehorse - just put him in the big races. Why make him a plow-horse? He had so much talent and was so exciting. We're still going to win our 55 to 60 games, let that horse run when we need it. That's just my thoughts, and Scotty Bowman understood that, too. When we played Colorado, all of a sudden you'd see Scotty whisper to Sergei, "Who's the best player on the ice? Is it Fedorov or is it Peter Forsberg?" Or if Stevie's out hurt and Sergei was going up against Joe Sakic, you'd never know which one Scotty would match him up with, but he'd just say, "Sergei, who's the best one?" And watch him go. It was exciting." Doug Brown quote from What it means to be a Red Wing. 1. Lidstrom 2a. Fedorov 2b. Yzerman

Since July 1st is coming shortly and players are being bought out of their contracts thus being made available to other teams, there's going to be plenty of threads discussing various players and which direction we think the Wings should follow. My request to you all is to try to limit the amount of topics to the sensible ones. Would Marc Denis or Andrew Raycroft be a fit for the Wings? Brad Isbister, Ed Belfour(Well, maybe if he pays the Wings a billion dollars.) ... etc. Those are examples of some of the topics that've been started recently. It seems as if some members just reach into a hat, pulls out a player's name and decide that he would be a good fit on the Wings. Please keep the BS to a minimum.
-
Well, someone started a topic about Eddie Belfour. That fits in the BS category thus the term.

Avery is still too much of a hothead.
-
Well deserved. He should've made it last year.
-
To a certain extent, he does.
