NHL plans to bring back World Cup of Hockey.
Wings_Toledo replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
I like most of the plans highlighted in that quote except for the Champions Cup. I think that's just an extra couple of games that clubs aren't going to want to play their best players because the tournament doesn't really mean anything. It seems to me that the league is asking more and more from the players (more long-distance travel and more games played) and then telling them they need to make less money. -
Flames goalie Miikka Kiprusoff makes it official: He's retiring.
Wings_Toledo replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
Would have liked to see him win a Cup during his career but that was never going to happen in Calgary even though they had that run in 2004. -
Is it just me or do all of these "new" sweaters just look the same? It's like teams that want to sell more merch just make an extremely stripped-down version of their old design to lower the material and production costs and... oh wait...

Honestly, I don't buy/play very many video games so the next game I buy will probably be something for the new system. The games that I do play, I play on PC mostly anyway.
-
I'm not buying anymore games until the PS4 comes out. It would be a waste of money at this point. That said, EA Sports makes some of the worst hockey games and fail to include even modest updates to make the experience feel more "real" to the player.

I wouldn't worry too much about a guy who can barely skate well enough to stay in the NHL going after our fastest skater. Plus, I would imagine that Helm's ice time will start very low and build up as he gets acclimated to playing on a regular basis again.
-
With Helm back in the lineup this team suddenly looks way more dangerous. Hopefully he stays healthy throughout the season. I'm excited to see what this team can do with the new additions plus Helm.

I don't think Bryan Murray gets enough credit for what he's been asked to do over the years. Still, it's hard to think of anyone who tops Holland. For as much complaining as people on these boards can do about him, it's hard to argue with his continued success. Think about all of the front office staff who have left even since after the '08 Cup, yet Holland still goes out and finds suitable replacements, drafts well and keeps the team competitive without giving up the future of the organization.

Pierre McGuire's past that NBC doesn't want you to know about
Wings_Toledo replied to evilmrt's topic in General
I mean, yeah, he may have been an arrogant and awful coach, but it's not like he has a criminal record or a drug problem or something. Mike Milbury is one of the worst GMs in the history of the sport and hit a fan with a shoe but he still has a job with NBC. -
Sad to see him go. I liked his personality and he would have improved his play staying in Babcock's system for a couple more seasons. Now it looks like he's off to the wasteland of New Jersey. I predict he'll be back in Switzerland after this next season.
-
Well, currently the Islanders have about $22 million in cap space so I wouldn't call it out of the question. I also think it's hilarious that they still owe Alexei Yashin $2.2 mil for the next TWO seasons!
-
I expect more goal scoring and for the young guys to either step up their game or have a bit of an adjustment period (still). As for where the Wings end up in the standings or playoffs, that's never a sure thing to predict so I'll just say that I'll enjoy watching this new version of the roster!

He's got the Moves Like Jagr..because he's Jaromir Jagr.....
Wings_Toledo replied to a topic in General
I could see a team like Phoenix having interest in him, but at this point he might want to consider retirement or going back to the KHL. Despite the fact that he still seems to have game, his lack of goals in the playoffs and speed will scare legit teams away from taking a chance on him with the cap being so tight this season. -
Seems to me that if small market teams cannot generate enough revenue to sustain their business models then they should probably just fold and let the league contract. I know that's harsh, but it's the easiest solution.
-
Alfredsson could be a help for one year, but would he really add the offense that the Wings want? I would imagine that having the pressure of being the captain lifted from him and playing for a different team might rejuvenate him a bit. Still, though... hard to get excited about the idea of him coming here. edited: Forgot he's not a center

Jackets, Bobrovsky agree on two-year deal.
Wings_Toledo replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
Not by today's market value for goaltenders. Mike Smith got nearly the same amount and for a much longer term. Plus, Bob won the Vezina so that obviously drove up his value. Considering the term and the fact that they have no other real options at the position, I'd say it's a fair contract. -
Red Wings select RW Anthony Mantha 20th Overall
Wings_Toledo replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
The scouts might say he has a questionable work ethic, but I guarantee Babcock can get the most effort out of this kid. Even in his interviews he doesn't seem like the same type of personality as Franzen so I won't judge the guy until he plays some games in the AHL and NHL. -
Man, that new Dallas sweater is absolutely hideous...

Mike Smith re-signs with PHX. 6 yrs @ $5.6 mill year w/ NTC
Wings_Toledo replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
He's in the position to hit his payday but I have a hard time seeing them offer him $9m a year. That's just way too much salary for a goaltender. I do think you're correct in that he'll be paid above $7.5m. You never know with the Rangers, though... -
Wild looking to deal Clutterbuck per Bob McKenzie.

Jonathan Ericsson - should we consider trading him?
Wings_Toledo replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
I remember when Ericsson signed his current contract and a lot of forum members thought it was overpayment. Doesn't look so bad now, eh? -
2013 Stanley Cup Finals - Boston Bruins vs. Chicago Blackhawks
Wings_Toledo replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Didn't watch any of this series because I just don't care. Chicago won? Big surprise the way the officiating went in these playoffs. This shortened season still seems like it didn't matter; at least to me. -
Well he missed 41 games in 2006 due to a wrist injury and missed most of this season for the same reason. I'm just going by what seems to be somewhat of a history.
-
The only thing I'd be worried about with Weiss is his injury history. If he stays healthy he seems like he might be capable of being a 50-60 point guy on the Wings.

Quenneville shouldn't even have been nominated. After the NBC crew explained that it took Scotty Bowman talking to Kane to get him going again, it seems to me that any off-ice "coaching" that Quenneville gets credit for is actually all Scotty's doing.
