Great game overall, but I'm now starting to agree about Franzen floating. He's just about the only one on the team that looks like he's not even making an effort. I really hope he decides to show up in the playoffs...

Whichever team requires the least amount of travel would be my pick. In my opinion, you can't really use regular season meetings as a measure for how the Wings will perform in the playoffs against certain teams.

I think he answered your question pretty well, to be honest. The majority of suspensions may be handed out to enforcers, but not for fighting. Teams could still employ enforcers, just not the ones who are going to make boneheaded plays and cost their teams money.

I could see how maybe that would be considered a charge, but in my opinion, this is a perfect example of what kind of hit the league said is allowed in their little explanation video about head shots that was posted to NHL.com when the new rules took effect. I don't think big hits are going away but I, too, am a little concerned that this hit resulted in a game misconduct.

Even though he doesn't play a huge role on this team, it's pretty easy to see that the Wings could use Eaves right now. He works hard on the PK and has pretty decent chemistry with Helm and Draper. We could have used more effective 3rd and 4th lines last night.

In response to his hazing of Brown: Brown has/had a slight speech impediment, for which Avery mocked him. Not sure if this was cruel tormenting, or a couple of jabs every now and then. Either way, not very cool to do to a teammate; especially a rookie.

He's talented, for sure, but he's not what this team needs at this time. I wonder if Columbus might take him back.

Well, a Central Division team would need to get ahead of us in the standings in order to drop to 4th. I don't see the Preds catching us anytime soon.

Not super excited about the Ericsson - Rafalski pairing, but glad to have Stuart back. I get the feeling this could be another high-scoring game.

He definitely should be. Personally, I think his comments were way out of line. When he is running the league, he can make decisions on who gets suspended and for how long. Until then, he needs to keep the criticism to himself.

Sorry to break it to you, but Yzerman's focus at this point is to be the GM of the Tampa Bay Lightning. I don't think you're ever going to see him do Detroit any favors, despite his history. Lending a superstar player to another team with the chance of them potentially being injured for the next season would be a very ignorant move on the part of any GM. Beyond that, you are correct: the league would never allow it.

From the video it looked to me like Johnson challenged Haley. In any case, I kind of like seeing these types of games every once in a while but after a certain point you have to just quit the circus and play hockey.

Haven't seen Carkner play much but he's been a healthy scratch on more than several occasions this year. Was that just to get some offense or is he not that great?

I read the exact same thing, lol. Then when Modano wasn't mentioned in the OP I thought, "Wait, what?" Good to see that everyone is recovering on schedule. I just hope that Ozzie can be ready by the playoffs.

Like him or not, he was once one of the most exciting players in the league. I don't think his foot will hold up for long, though. Long-term medical issues like he's been having don't just suddenly go away for good.

The new ones in the picture where the players are wearing them look even worse than on paper. They're like a combination of Vancouver's and Toronto's jerseys and are way too simple, IMO. What was wrong with the current jerseys? The complete omission of black makes them look way less intimidating.

I don't see Nashville ever trading him to a division rival, especially the Wings. If he became a UFA maybe then Detroit would have a shot at him but we will never see him play with Lidstrom before Lids retires.

Good move, in my opinion. Tatar got a taste of the NHL but he still needs a few more seasons in the AHL to get his game up to where it needs to be. Emmerton looked pretty ready in his debut, we'll see if he can keep it up.

I haven't been impressed with Salei all season. He's slow and not that great in the corners. Sticking on topic, I'm not sure the Wings should trade for a backup at this point. Stick with what you've got and get a free agent in the summer if you have to. Once the team gets healthy Jimmy will be fine and I'm sure MacDonald could win a few games with the complete team in front of him.
