Does Holland have the courage to tank this team?
Wings_Toledo replied to Drake_Marcus's topic in General
I agree that this organization would never go that route in order to rebuild. There is a very good possibility that the Wings won't make the playoffs this year, and while it would be very disappointing to see that happen, streaks don't go on forever. In the cap era, no team is going to be as good as the Wings have been over the last 20 years, there's just simply too much forced parity for that to happen. We have guys in our system that will be stars some day. I mean, when Franzen first made the team he wasn't expected to put up more than 30 points a season and now we're all practically expecting him to save the season for this team. -
Edwards says a lot of things that make you go, "did he mean to say that out loud?" Maybe I'm alone in this, but I like Rick Jeanneret. His goal calls are hilarious (even if they are annoying) and he sounds like someone's crazy grandpa trying to call a hockey game.

Maybe that's why he's -16.

I received an e-mail today from the BJs' mailing list (no idea why) with a link to this poll: http://columbus.bizjournals.com/columbus/poll/index.html Upon reading the comments, it seems that the Bluejackets are losing money and want to try to have the team be publicly owned. I don't know how Columbus residents would feel about having to foot the bill for the team. Anyway, does anyone think this could potentially turn into another Phoenix Coyotes situation?
-
Getting Franzen back this early is going to be huge. I just hope this team can get things back on track quickly when everyone comes back.

Sounds similar to every single game I've gone to in Columbus. We somehow ALWAYS end up sitting next to some idiot who has no idea what's going on in the game, but feels the need to yell the entire time anyway. Oh, and I was standing in line next to a guy wearing a Wings jacket and said, "Oh hey, fellow Wings fan, eh?" and he went, "Yeah, but I want Columbus to win. The Wings are done this year." Yeah.. look at where your precious Jackets are now... I'll never go to another game in that college city.

Shootouts. And the salary cap.

Filppula (groin) doesn't skate, but will play in Minnesota

I really hope Kronwall is able to play soon. It's really frustrating that Lilja is able to practice with the team but not cleared to play because of the headaches. You can't help but feel really bad for him, and the team could really use him right now. Not only that, but now Babs is dumping all the blame on him! (jk) -
Wings deserved better than that. This is the type of game that truly needs to end in a tie. The shootout is a ripoff.
-
It's not like I would blame him for taking the money. To get paid like that is an opportunity you really can't pass up. I just hate to see players leave the NHL and play in leagues that are a step below them in terms of playing ability, just because of this stupid salary cap.
-
As much as I like Kovalchuk, he seems like the type of guy who would go back to Russia for the money. There's no telling for sure until something actually happens, though.
-
Eventually things will be decided based upon the remaining division matchups. There can't be that many teams with a winning record at the end of the season.

It's interesting how you spout the same stuff about "Crosby being the best player in the NHL" in seemingly every thread you post in, regardless of the topic, and then try to defend your opinion while telling others that they're just, "jealous and won't stop bringing him up." We get it man, you have a boner for Crosby. It's getting really repetitive and annoying.
-
Scary stuff. Does he still get credit for the shutout? That would be kind of weird if he did.

So I'm watching the Thrashers vs. Panthers game on TV and almost the entire lower bowl is empty, and the entire place is dead silent. Are there even 100 people at this game? How can these teams exist with attendance like this? Edit: Crap, I mispelled the thread title...

Downloading it for the Droid right now. I'm guessing by the post above me that it works correctly? If so, this will come in very handy on those days when I'm unable to get to a TV to watch the game.

This season is also somewhat of an anomaly because of the ridiculous amount of injuries. This team would still easily pull out a playoff berth, in my opinion, if everyone could stay healthy. Right now the Wings are playing with only 3 of their true top 6 D-men, and basically half of their top two lines. I have to admit though, that they are a lot of fun to watch this season, even if they are losing a lot more, because the team is forced to play a tougher style and not rely on skill alone to win games.
-
Whatever he does, I really hope Babcock gives Janik the opportunity to play. Until he screws up royally, I think he would be a better option than having Meech AND Lebda together.
-
In all fairness, Clemmensen played one hell of a game as well.
-
I really like the way the team is playing right now. It seems like they're really playing with a defense-first mindset and that's helping to get the offense going.

Maple Leafs in trouble with Ontario health ministry
Wings_Toledo replied to edicius's topic in General
I don't really see why the media treats Swine Flu as this horrible, deadly disease. Yeah if you're a child or elderly you could possibly die from it, but you could say the same about a common cold. Those with status are treated first, that's nothing new at all. -
My buddy and I are convinced that Jeff Rimer wishes every player was Rick Nash just so he could say his name more often. "Rick Nash passes to Rick Nash, back to Rick Nash, one-timer, he shoots! Oh, what a save by Rick Nash!"
-
I always hear non-Wings fans say they hate the Wings because they're the "Yankees of Hockey." Well, they do both have something in common: they're great teams who win championships.

I don't know man. Mike Lange had some pretty strange calls.
