So, because there was a severe thunderstorm/tornado warning in my area during the game, our NBC station decided to show the game in a tiny little box in the corner as they demonstrated how the storm was moving (nowhere near where I live) from the middle of the 1st period until the last part of the 3rd. Needless to say I was quite pissed and called to complain. I understand you want to inform people but when your weathermen (that's right, there were two) start saying things like, "So...ummm........." you know they're just dragging it out for no reason. Good game though, from what I could see.

What on earth does that have to do with the OP's statement about history repeating itself? We're talking hockey here. That being said, the article up on NHL.com right now pretty much sums up all of the actual valid reasons for both teams.
-
They'd better win. And Datsyuk better have at least 1 goal. How can you get shut down by the Todd Marchant line, of all players? Would help to have some fair officiating as well.
-
I know it's just a knee-jerk reaction after a bad period, but honestly why does Holland keep Lebda on this team? I'd rather see Meech out there than him. Can't fault Chelios on that goal (even though his age was showing in his skating speed).

4/15/09 GDT: Around the NHL Round 1 Game 1
Wings_Toledo replied to HockeyCrazy3033's topic in General
The Blues vs. Canucks game is a good one, but all of these penalty calls are just ridiculous. I thought the Pitt vs. Philly game was well officiated and was kind of expecting the same here. Oh, that's right....O'Halloran. -
FSN Detroit to Televise Entire First Round
Wings_Toledo replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
That's great news...except for us Wings fans in southern Ohio. Apparently FSN-Ohio isn't showing game 1 and Versus is only showing Penguins games because I guess to them two cities in Pennsylvania are closer to Cincinnati than Columbus and Detroit... Edit: Forgot to check the schedule for tomorrow and Versus is, in fact, showing game 1. Sorry Versus! -
I guess I should have been more clear in stating that the majority of this year's roster has won the Cup at least once ON TOP OF not having a near-retirement-former-Red-Wing to motivate them. No need to get so defensive about it. Damn.
-
Luckily I live in Cincinnati and get FSN-Ohio which will most likely show most of the games (seeing as how it's the first time their team has made the playoffs) and I have Center Ice through Time Warner Cable. I'm hoping Center Ice picks up the FSN-Detroit feeds as I hate having to listen to Jeff Rimer. Also, Center Ice always blacks out BJs games because I have FSN-Ohio as well. I hope that doesn't cause any problems.

Agreed. And last year there was the motivation to win it for Dallas Drake, but who really will give them that same drive this year? Hossa is the only one that comes to mind, but he hasn't been in the league quite long enough to warrant the "pity Cup," so to speak. Regardless, I think and hope they make a good run. I just really want to see a Wings vs. Sharks conference finals. That would probably be more exciting than the Cup finals.

What does everyone think of Ballard's hit on Malkin?
Wings_Toledo replied to CenterIce's topic in General
Nothing wrong with that one. I agree with being sick of seeing retaliation after a good, clean hit like that. At least Crosby didn't go for the jewels this time. -
Meh, I've seen Maltby pull that kind of stuff on people as recently as this season. Not necessarily as blatantly as that, but it happens. I think everyone is just upset because it's Avery. Yeah he may not have learned his lesson, but he does a good job irritating the other team. And yeah, that call from watching the replay is bogus. Boo on the officials for that.

Anyone catch the Columbus vs. Calgary game? I looked at the box score and noticed there were 24 penalties in the 2nd period and most of them fighting majors, roughing calls and misconducts.
-
I'm not sure who I would be, but: I like playing the left wing, right-handed shot, a bit better at passing than shooting, 6'2" but not great size, about average skating speed, don't fight but I do sometimes have trouble controlling my temper. I guess I don't really watch enough of teams other than the Wings to figure out who that would be. If I figure it out, I'll repost.
-
Anyone else get annoyed at how Mason flashes the leather practically every time he makes a glove save?
-
I like the 2 minute penalty for situations like the one you just mentioned (which I also watched, and it was a clean hit). However, I think they need to get rid of the 10 minute misconduct penalty. Also, whether or not it's called for, I always enjoy watching a fight.

I usually try to go to at least one game in Columbus every year (I live in Cincinnati). Never really stayed long enough to do anything downtown. As with any major city, there are plenty of restaurants in the area and basically anything right near the arena is good. I'm not sure if anything has changed since last year, but from what I've seen the fans definitely care more about what the Buckeyes are doing than the hockey game.

Pronger Crosby Burrows (nothing Wings-related, I just hate how he cheap shots people then hides behind his bigger teammates when confronted)
-
Last time they played the Wings and he got yanked he basically took a nap on the bench. A team player doesn't do that, even if you're not having a good night. He's way past his prime and he's lucky to be in the minors if another NHL team doesn't take a chance on him.

"The NHL says it will enforce an understanding that all players who decline to show after being named to the All-Star teams must miss at least one game before or one game after the All-Star weekend." To me, an understanding is different from a legal rule. This possible suspension seems like Bettman on a power trip rather than an attempt to regulate conduct. If two players from a different team declined in the same fashion as Lidstrom and Datsyuk I'd still feel the same way. Who cares if they don't want to be there? You can't force players to attend a promotional event (and a pathetic, half-assed one at that).
-
Didn't bother to read through the responses, but if I'm remembering correctly he had multiple assists in the Winter Classic game today. Just because he's not scoring goals doesn't mean he's not contributing.
-
My only problem with this tournament is that the U.S. team gets booed by all of the Canadian fans that clearly outnumber the U.S. fans. I can understand rooting for Canada or booing the U.S. if those two teams play each other, but U.S. vs. Germany? I don't know, it just seemed a little bit rude.

From what I saw of the the 1st period and then highlights after that, it seemed like Ozzie played well and most of the goals weren't entirely his fault (i.e. Kronwall screening him on the first one). Horrible defensive effort, creative offensive effort, and a win in the end. Can't complain about those 2 points, but this defense has to get itself together before April.
-
Honestly, I'm still not a fan of the Reebok sweaters because they look cheap and the designs don't flow well at all. Since the question was about logos though, I'd have to say the Penguins. I can't stand that gold color. Just go back to the bright yellow and black logo of the 70s and 80s.

Hossa, because then I wouldn't get mistaken for Jared Leto.
-
I still don't get why he doesn't just put Hossa with Datsyuk and Zetterberg, at least for a couple of shifts. Who knows what that might produce.
