Nice! -
SILKY. MITTS.

I see what you did there

Corey Crawford, you're gonna be on the news for that
Wings_Toledo replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
Hopefully this is the start of him losing his confidence and a nice long losing streak for the 'Hawks. -
GDT 2/18 GDT : Red Wings 3 at Blackhawks 2 (SO. Yes, SO!).

Seeing Tats punk Kane on his own move was the happiest I've been all season. -
That screen by Kronwall on the first Montreal goal last night was a prime example of "either block it or get the hell out of the way." I think if Jimmy had been able to see that shot clearly it wouldn't have gone in.

Thanks for clarifying that for me. So I guess the only smart thing to do (as Yzerfan87 said) is to just let Franzen sit on LTIR until his contract is up a la Pronger. That is, if he shouldn't or cannot play anymore because of his concussions.
-
I guess I'm not really up to speed on the new CBA rules about retirement. Does the over-35 thing not apply anymore? What would happen if Franzen just retires?
-
Looking at the respective careers and other honors awarded to the players whose numbers have been retired by the Red Wings so far I'd have to say that no one on the current roster even comes close. Zetterberg and Datsyuk are GREAT players and will be remembered by this generation of fans forever but I can't honestly say that I think they deserve to have their numbers retired. That being said, the criteria for having one's number retired will ultimately have to change with this new era where career point totals are bound to be lower and the league does everything it can to make parity reign supreme.

They pretty much would have done that without the trade. It just doesn't really make sense from their perspective, especially giving up that late 1st rounder in what is supposed to be the deepest draft class in years. Without that pick the trade is only slightly lopsided in Winnipeg's favor, but man does it ever seem like overpayment on Buffalo's part...
-
BUF would be wise to hang onto all of their 1st round picks if players like Kane and Bogosian are all that's coming back...

The more highlight videos I watch of Svechnikov, the more I hope the Wings can draft him. Highly skilled and currently ranked 21st overall in mid-term central scouting rankings. He'll probably be gone by the time we draft but it would be nice to have a winger of his caliber in the system.

I think if not for the success and quick acclimation of the kids who were called up last season it would be a much more difficult decision for Babcock. He still has options to consider but I can't think of another team with a coaching need that would be more desirable to a coach of his status. Pittsburgh, maybe. I just don't think that team would offer any greater challenges than staying in Detroit.

Impressive. I'm sold. One small question, though: can he play hockey?
-
Nice list so far. The way you describe Ahl definitely makes him sound like Franzen 2.0. I would add to that list Evgeni Svechnikov. I've seen him listed at both 6'1" 180 lbs and 6'3" 205 lbs so I'm not sure which one is true but he's a highly skilled offensive player and has already adapted to the North American game. Would be great if he's still available by the time the Wings pick.

The guy's an incredible player and I hope to see him shatter some records before he hangs 'em up.
-
I'd add Phil Housley to that list, but my vote would go for either Chelios or Modano.

The laser sensors on the puck is a good idea, I think. They have sort of a similar system in soccer right now for determining if the ball crossed the goal line and it's pretty accurate and saves a lot of time for the refs. My question would be: With the sensors in, would they allow a goal if the puck is covered by the goalie's pads and is no longer visible but the sensors determine that the puck has crossed the goal line?

Personally, I'm tired of the Winter Classic. Maybe if they only did it every 4 years or something it would be interesting, but we all know the NHL would never give up the kind of money it apparently generates.

Injured MLive : Howard out at least 2-4 weeks with "slight groin tear"
Wings_Toledo replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I'm cautiously optimistic because 2-4 weeks is just Holland taking a random guess. A slight groin tear doesn't sound good and you know how these groin injuries can sideline goalies for quite a while. I remember when Hasek had a similar injury during the Olympics (although his was the adductor muscle, so it could have been more severe) and he was out for the rest of the year. -
Babcock would never use him but I hope he ends up somewhere.
-
I know Yandle could help with the offense from the back end but his defensive inability makes me think that Franzen, Helm + Smith would be a huge overpayment for him. I'd say Franzen, (some forward), and a 1st or 2nd round pick maybe. Even then, I'd still rather see if Ouellet can develop into that kind of player before trading away depth. I don't know, there are just too many options to know what Holland will really do.

John Scott Butt Ends Tim Jackman's Face
Wings_Toledo replied to Hack & Whack Rule!'s topic in General
My question is: Did anyone go after Scott later in the game after they saw the replay? I sure hope so. -
I blame Babs for putting the same predictable shooters out there as much as Howard for not stopping shots. At this point, Pav is the only reliable shootout performer.

All I know is that I don't want to see the Oilers end up with Connor McDavid. As the most hyped prospect since Crosby, I'd actually like to see this kid get a shot at becoming a star player on a team that's actually trying to rebuild instead of languishing in Edmonton and wasting the first 3 years of his career.
