You're right that by the letter of the rule, it's interference. But hits that land *just* before a player would've touched the puck aren't usually called.

I'm really going back and forth on this... It looks like shoulder to shoulder blade to me. Maybe it's just the angle though, I honestly can't pinpoint exactly where he hit him. If it was more along the side of his back, though, that hit's made a lot. The timing looks perfect to me (if it had been a clean hit) He did follow through kind of high. I think what really made it bad though is Pominville had no idea he was coming. Usually when guys get hit from behind, they can at least brace themselves somewhat. I guess instead of seeing it as one hugely dirty hit, I see it as a hit with several "slightly" illegal parts, and I'm not really judging it as the sum of all those offenses. Basically what I'm saying is I don't know

That wasn't as dirty as I thought it was gonna be based on the comments. That's not to say it wasn't dirty, but 5 and a game seems like adequate punishment to me, MAYBE 1 game.
