Sammy with some nice moves and then.... nothing. Imagine that.

Evening, all you Wings fans. Glad to see Cleary has a point already.

    Edmonton Oilers

I'm not saying what they're doing isn't impressive. I'm saying it's stupid that they have a chance to do it in the 1st place. As for your point about the Wings... well my problem isn't just that they have 15 shootout wins, it's that it's so far ahead of what everyone else has. If every game for every team went to a shootout then that would be fine, but they're in them so often. Plain and simple, those are games they didn't deserve to win. I'm not saying they deserved to lose them either, but... I'm not faulting Edmonton for having those extra 15 points. I'm just saying that a 15 point difference is hugely significant come the end of the season, and the NHL is stupid for giving teams like Edmonton a chance they don't deserve.

For the three who have NHL network...

I'm pretty sure someone broadcasts the NHL network on SopCast every day too for those who don't have the channel. Thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely be checking that out.

    Edmonton Oilers

Sure it's good for them that they're in the race despite their injuries. But you said it yourself, they play "decent hockey" for 65 minutes. They didn't play well enough in 18 games or whatever it is to win, but they got the extra point in 15 of them because they have 3 guys who are good at breakaways? I can't see how that justifies a playoff spot. Oh you know they're going to in a few cases. With only 5 points separating the current last 4 playoff spots in the East, and only 3 in the West, I'm sure that the extra points for shootouts are going to make or break more than one team.

    The best of the best!

I didn't know it was physically possible to type those words, even in jest.

Well I don't actually feel too bad for him about that, but you're right. People should hate Colin Campbell as much as they hate Bettman.

I don't know about "a lot of things" but you're definitely right about that with certain things, most notably the whole ESPN/NHL deal.

Let's just pretend it's Bettman's fault, it's more fun and easier that way.

Sexy GDT. Wings win this one in a blowout, 14-3. Datsyuk breaks 100 points on the season.

I still think it's a joke that they're this close to the playoffs with their 15 shootout wins.

OTT-MTL game blowout; MTL winning 7-1 after 2

That was a great game, but the best part came from the announcers: -"I believe the medical terminology is nether regions" -"For you geography buffs, that's nowhere near the Netherlands" "For those of you not familiar with geography, I believe it's also called the twig and chuckleberries" Seriously, how often do you hear a hockey announcer say "twig and chuckleberries?"

    Alternative to playoff beards

I'm gonna go ahead and nominate this for worst thread of 2008 You could always shave your beard the day before the playoffs start.

What Happened to the Central Division?

Chicago's only 4 points out of a playoff spot too, so they still have an outside shot.

    No-touch icing.

It's not just icing plays where players act outside of the letter of the law. I would say a good portion of hits thrown are on players who either just got rid of the puck or were just about to touch the puck. As long as a player is close to the puck, the ref is going to let it go most times, and I guess they just extend that to icing calls.

CRAZY game between Avs and Oilers

I was thinking they thought that OT was a full 20 minutes. Either way, it was just a brain fart I'm sure. (<--- Don't know what that smiley is for exactly, but I love it)

That's what they get for being incompetent. And it's not like 1 person can just call then spread the word to everyone else.

http://www.videolan.org/ Download it there. Once you have it installed, and the SopCast feed open and running, choose "Open Network Stream" in VLC. Select the HTTP option and put "127.0.0.1:8902" in the box. If 8902 doesn't work, try 8912.

I'm sure it's been asked, but has anyone found out what channel FSN+ is in the Detroit area? The game is blacked out on CI and I only want to use SopCast as a last resort.

    Ovechkin's Hart chances

But my point is there's only so much one man can do. Short of Jesus playing hockey, there are some teams that no player would be able to get into the playoffs by himself.

    Ovechkin's Hart chances

So what you guys are saying is that the best player in the world can't be the MVP if everyone else on his team blows? A player who's not as good/doesn't perform as well but has a better supporting cast should get it before him? That's ridiculous. It's not a team award, and it's not fair to punish someone because the team they're on isn't good enough. The NHL already does the opposite, by generally not giving it to players on teams that have too many good players (e.g. Lidstrom), which is also pretty stupid I think. Ovechkin has been far and away the best player in the NHL this year, and there's nothing you could say to convince me he doesn't deserve the Hart. Unfortunately I don't vote though. And FWIW, I think the Caps will make the playoffs this year. AO showed last night how bad he wants it, and I think he'll still get them there. They could still take the 3rd seed with 2 games against Carolina left.

    Steve Yzerman Is Really Incredible...

Obviously not the case with Stevie, but it's also possible for a player to play more than the number of games in a season if they're traded.
