You really are just an ornery old troll, but a very good one at that. I could explain to you how you were, in fact, comparing the NHLs system of discipline to that of our country, but if you can't understand your own words, there's no way you'll be able to understand them when I say them back to you. What's really funny is that we really don't disagree on a whole lot here. We both think it was a dirty hit and needed a suspension, and that Kovalchuk should be suspended despite his superstar status. Really what it boils down to I guess is his intent and how many games he should have gotten that we disagree about. P.S. I don't think you're an asshat, I think under your rough exterior there's a big huggable teddy bear. If it takes me forever, I will find that teddy bear Exactly. It's wacko to do that. So why then should a hit that possibly could result in injury but didn't be penalized any more severely? Sure we're taught that hits from behind are evil and to avoid them at all costs from a young age, because of the damage they CAN inflict, but rarely do.

Right, because comparing hockey to the American judicial system makes perfect sense. Why don't you all call for suspensions every time someone hooks or holds or hi-sticks, because after all, it's illegal. I do agree with you about Jones though, except I thought he should have had a 1 game suspension is all.
-
Do you just say things like this to be different and get a rise out of people? You can't just arbitrarily say "take away this goal, because in a perfect world that one wouldn't have happened." That's the way hockey works, sometimes you get a good break, sometimes the refs bend you over and... well you know. And the point about Cleary has nothing to do with team toughness. There's absolutely NOTHING you can do about getting scratched in a fight. To use that as an indication of how the playoffs could play out is just ludicrous.

I've seen it plenty. Rozsival was close enough to the boards that he wasn't in any mortal danger. I agree about the Downie point though, but that's the way it goes. You do stupid s*** a lot, and you're gonna get nailed for it harder than a guy who does it once.
-
f*** ESPN. God forbid a team full of old guys and Europeans stand up to the big bad Ducks and win.
-
I laughed. I would say edge Downey though, he got one really solid left in there.
-
Great play by those two, always nice to see Kopecky get a point.
-
Dammit I thought the game started at 10:30 also, so I missed the goal and fight. I didn't see it, but I'm sure Pronger cheated somehow
-
Not every hit from behind is a devastating, "Oh my God how could he have such little disregard for the sanctity of human life" kind of hit. In this case it happens that Rozsival was a "safe" distance from the boards so that he wasn't going to break his neck. It was worth the 5, game misconduct, and the suspension, but no more. There was no wanton disregard for player's safety here any moreso than say, a nice 2-hander to the legs or something.
-
That seems like a perfect suspension to me. Edit: well I look like a double-posting ****** now that the threads have been merged
-
He should get a game, 2 tops. Sure it was a dirty hit, but it's obvious he wasn't trying to kill Rozsival. He wasn't going that fast when he hit him. These things do happen, and they should be punished when they do, but I think any suspension at all on him would be enough of a message. If this was Downie or Pronger or Tootoo I'd be right with you calling for 5-10, but it's Ilya Kovalchuk, he's not a dirty player and there's no need to crucify him for a 1st offense like this.

That's been on the Warrior hockey website for a while. Regardless, he has disgusting skills. The center ice shots are sweet, but what really impresses me is the one-handed top corner shooting, because there's no chance in hell I could pull that off.

Damn I am so jealous. I used to go to Health South for drop-in sometimes when I went to USC. This almost makes me wish I hadn't transferred. Great pics though, thanks for sharing!

Anaheim - Selanne (if that still counts) Atlanta - Kovalchuk/Lehtonen Boston - Bergeron Buffalo - Numminen Carolina - Staal Calgary - Kiprusoff Chicago - Toews Columbus - Fedorov Colorado - Sakic Dallas - Jokinen Detroit - Depends... Edmonton - Pitkanen Florida - Jokinen Los Angelas - Calder, I guess Minnesota - Koivu/Gaborik Montreal - Koivu Nashville - I'll say Ortmeyer New Jersey - Parise NY Islanders - I'll say Andy Hilbert since he's from Michigan NY Rangers - Shanahan Ottawa - Heatley Philadelphia - Briere/Kapanen Phoenix - Kapanen Pittsburgh - Ruutu San Jose - Thornton St. Louis - Can I say no one? Tampa Bay - Lecavalier Toronto - Sundin Vancouver - Salo Washington - Ovechkin Kinda weird there's 2 times where back-to-back teams have players with the same last name as my favorite.

Cool stats. I wonder how Nick's avg compares to the rest of the league.
-
Sir, that has never happened and never will. To think Nick has ever made a bad play in his life is preposterous.
-
Definitely a good fight, thanks for sharing. Some good old-school toe-to-toe action for part of it too. I gotta say though, my favorite fight so far this year is Ruutu-Tucker just becuase of how much I love Ruutu.

It wasn't just a sucker punch, it looked like he tried to thumb him in the eye. Regardless, at least Philly finally got some other form of punishment with Hatcher's headhunting actually injuring his own player in that game.
-
I only saw one replay of the goal after it happened I think, and I think it should have counted. I also do think that it would have been waved off it were Homer there. I really don't mind that it stood except for the fact that there's a glaringly obvious double standard in place.
-
I love this line, because it's pretty much true:
-
Well that sucks. Hopefully it's just this one game. Obviously it's not TOO serious since he played the next night.
-
Honestly, I'd probably be making fun of that if it werent' Stevie in it. "I gotta tell ya, that's a hat trick in my book" is the cheesiest line ever, but since #19 said I think that's one of the best commercials I've ever seen in my life.
-
Gretzky had it, lost it. Yzerman picks it up. Yzerman moving...blue line chance... SCORE! STEVE YZERMAN! DETROIT WINS! Gives me chills every single time.
-
True, it's pretty much completely impractical unless you're Mike Legg and a couple others, but it's still pretty nifty. People just like to see things that are out of the ordinary sometimes I guess. And you've gotta admit, it's fairly impressive that a 9 year old can do that.
-
For the record, it has nothing to do with taking your words literally... I don't even disagree with you about what you said in the least. It's just that this thread was such an abortion by this page I figured I'd just expand on what you said. And sure you can lay out a good hard hit without charging, but you can lay out an even better one if you charge
