I never said Pronger-esque. Maybe the elbow not so much. But I'll take a charge and a rough any damn day. I'm fully aware it's illegal. But sometimes 2 minutes is worth it to really ring a guys bell and get your teammates/crowd back into the game.

No, I got your follow up, didn't mean to make it seem like I missed it. I was just saying that I think big hits can be good plays sometimes, even if you get a penalty for them.
-
Haha, x3. I was shocked someone would have the audacity to call Hank's defensive play overrated. I'll bet he holds the record for most shutouts by a forward now though
-
I think there's lots of illegal plays that are good plays. Fighting's illegal, but that can be a good thing. And I think charging/roughing/elbowing can be a good thing once in a while too. I'm still nowhere near convinced that what Hasek did was illegal, though.

QFMFT. I'd take Sergei in a heartbeat.
-
Exactly. Although for me, that makes me like him a lot less for some reason. I have Center Ice, and I'll watch AO play over Crosby any time both of them are on. Sid is definitely fun to watch though.
-
Wrong. As pointed out earlier, you're missing the most important part of that rule.

I, too, have oft tried to put into words how good Nick is. The fact is it's not possible. That's how good he is.

I PROMISE i would be saying "Damn, nice play by Mason" and be cursing Hank or Dats for not having their head up and allowing themselves the potential to be injured. What Dom did was not even remotely dirty. Maybe it was a penalty, I don't know for sure, but calling it dirty is ludicrous. He made a great heads up play for the puck and body, and got both. That's like saying a defenseman who slides on the ice to break up a play is endangering the safety of the other players out there. I really can't believe this is an 11 page thread.

Are you saying that the other sports don't have off-ice problems like hockey? You'd be right in the sense that they're waaay worse. Kobe raping a chick, Sean Taylor getting killed, half the Bengals being arrested, the list goes on.

The Finns are where it's at. How can you not like all that sisu? There's honestly not a Finn in the league I don't like.

Selanne Ovechkin Sundin Ville Niemenen Jarkko Ruutu Ilya Kovalchuk I like enforcers in general, but I can't say I really like any one specifically.

I'm considering getting a disease so I can meet AO. Seriously though, that's a great story, but it doesn't surprise me in the least that yet another hockey player takes time out to meet a fan. AO's the man, I'd give my left nut to see him in the Winged Wheel

I've never been a fan of this argument. When it comes down to it, playing hockey is their career. If you could make an extra million somewhere else, I'm pretty sure you'd take it. Granted the players who do things like that will never be fan-favorites, but I don't agree with vilifying them because of it. Obviously you're going to like a Stevie better than a Yashin, but he's not a bad person for taking the higher offer. When it comes down to it, a million dollars is a million dollars, whether you're making 20k a year or 10 mil a year.

I'm with you as far as it not being a big deal. But he absolutely should have had that Mayers goal. It was a shot from the outside, the kind you need your goalie to stop. If he gives up 1 in every couple hundred of those shots, no big deal, so I can let it slide. The 2 PP goals were garbage goals though, not much he could have done except get a better bounce after the save. The other goal was really weak. In reality it was a terrible game for Dom, but he's allowed to have one every once in a blue moon (in the regular season).
-
I did answer your question. I qualified my answer, but I answered it nonetheless. If you had said "Datsyuk will have 2 goals and those are the only points he'll have through 16 games" that would be pretty horrible, but it's not the case, so it's a moot point. Why are you so hung up on goals? Yes, it would be terrific if Pavs and Hank both had 15 goals right now, but that's not realistic. The fact of the matter is, Datsyuk has 16 points in 16 games, which is a really good start to the season.

These projections aren't based on 1 game... They're based on 16 this year, and several last year. That's the way these things work. It's like a poll that samples 3 people vs. one that samples 100,000. So after 50 games you're going to say, "these stats mean nothing to me, we're only projecting.? If they said he'd be putting up a point a game, I'd say, "that's awesome." And since that's what he's doing, I'm going to go ahead and say, "that's awesome."
-
A 100 point season is a hundred point season. Whether it's 60/40 or 10/90, it's a hundred points. No they're not, he's putting up a point a game. You've heard people say that an assist is just as important as a goal? It's 100% true. Do we? 9 game win streak. 1st in the league. If they're on the same line, I don't see the difference between Hank having all the goals and Pavs having all the assists and them evening out between the 2 of them.

QFT. I love hockey and specifically the Wings more than life itself, but no rivalry in American sports approaches Michigan-ohio state.

Who the hell do you think makes 75 mil a year in the MLB? And besides Martin Gerber, who were the other 2 people they mentioned in the game.
-
Barry Melrose is an idiot and I am by no means a fan of him, but who really cares about this comment? This fake outrage by people nowadays really pisses me off.

I agree with you to a point. All those incidents you mentioned definitely looked worse and in general have a higher potential to injure someone, but the fact is that Bertuzzi ended Moore's career. It's been said before, but this would have been no big deal if Moore had skated away from the punch, just like if Simon had ended Hollweg's career, he'd be in at least as much if not more s*** as Bert. I like Bert, and I don't believe that it was the punch directly that broke his neck, but he is unfortunately responsible. Without sounding too harsh, I really couldn't give a s*** less about Moore, but I hope he at least gets something to support him for a while out of this, because he has suffered. And it was Perezhogin in the AHL stick swinging incident, I believe.

That's good in theory, but it's not fair in some situations. Randy Jones' hit was a dirty one, but one that happens a lot in hockey. Why should he have to be out longer than everyone else who hits from behind just because Bergeron got hurt by some fluke. Then there's clean hits and otherwise borderline things too. I am warm to the idea for very obvious intent to injure plays though, a la Simon, Boulerice.

I don't care how mad you are, you are just plain retarded if you go into the opposing team's bench during a fight. And that winger seemed a little out of line going at a D-man before the puck dropped, but still, man up and drop your gloves.
