I agree about it being tough to find that type of player, at least one with good enough skills to represent the league. I didn't catch but a few minutes here and there of Pens playoff games, but what I saw during the season didn't impress me with his physicality. If he's improving that aspect, then good for him. There's no denying that AO is the more physical player, but I'll like Sid more and more if he can become a bigger physical presence. And right now I don't see him as the type to play through immense physical pain, but we'll see.

I hope he does well, I just hope he doesn't go and break every NHL record like people want him to. The way he plays just doesn't seem to be a good representation of hockey to me. He's too much of a ***** IMO. I just don't like his style. Why can't we get someone with a play style more like Shanahan or something to be the new face of the NHL. Sid definitely comes across as a whiner to me, but I don't know about diving. He just doesn't seem like a proficient captain to me, someone grittier who looks like they play with a little more passion would fit the bill better. And as for having a hard on for AO, you're absolutely right (Figuratively, of course)

Obstruction, Hooking, Slashing. Holding, Clutching, and Grabbing

I lol'd, but I also puked a little. -
You have no idea how many times I've done that or something similar. I'm pretty sure I will for the rest of my life, no joke. Yes to all of those actually, ESPECIALLY the 3/26 thing. That's just what I do when I can't find anything else. I always go until I can find the best one with the announcer saying, "And no one is there. No is there.... to help Claude Lemieux." Gives me chills just thinking about that line.

You are allowed to establish position, yes. You are not allowed to cross-check people over and over until the fall down, and you are not allowed to "establish position" as you call it, on someone who doesn't have the puck. That's interference. Face the glaringly obvious: Chris Pronger is a hack. He's really good at being a hack, but he's a hack. If you watched last series, you would have seen how ridiculous Nick made your 2 golden boys on the blue line look. Not only did he outplay them both combined, he outclassed them a hundred times over. Ok well we've been through the whole buying the cup thing a million times over. It's not a valid argument. I won't disagree about the left wing lock, but it was nothing like the interference we have going on in the game today. And as for the pond hockey comment, well I was gonna say 3-on-3 games, but I was trying to make a point about the Ducks -
Ugh, am I the only one here who doesn't have a hard-on for Sid? There's no denying that he's a really good player, but I just can't stand him. I really hope he turns out to not be as great as everyone thinks he'll be. I'd take Ovie over Sid any damn day.

x5, or whatever we're at now. Cross-checks piss me off when it's just a string of them to someone all in quick succesion, but I think that's definitely more enjoyable to watch as a hockey fan than the horses*** interference. But just think about what it would be like if they called every penalty that actually happened in a game . The Ducks would have 2 guys in the box pretty much the whole game. -
When I was in school at USC, I almost made it to see a Ducks-Wings game on my birthday, but I had a hockey game of my own that night. I had tickets right behind the Wings bench and everything too. I always wondered what other arenas are like compared to the Joe

Dude, a Red Wing would smoke a Duck any day. Once that wheel with a wing on it gets rolling, it'll crush a puny little duck. Duh. I thought even a hockey fan from California would realize that.

One of my most vivid memories from the 1995 Finals, and keep in mind that I was only 8 or 9 at the time and may be making this up, is Sergei kneeling on the ice with his head in his hands. I just kind of always assumed he was crying. Like I've said before, if those 2 hack-of-a-defenseman D-men whose names I don't like to say disappear before the last game, I'd have no problem with Anaheim lifting it. Especially since I love Teemu.

I know this his happened to everyone, but right as Heatley touched the puck I said out loud "Oh great, Spezza is out there, the Ducks are gonna score" And not 3 seconds after I finished the sentence Pahlsson scored. I'm not saying a damn word next game
-
OK here's my awesome prediction for the 3rd period: 4 goals by Ottawa - Spezza Heatley Alfredsson Fisher. That ain't a guess, that's what it's gonna be. (bonus points if you know what movie I quoted there)

I know but I cheated.

I agree. I don't hate Perry, he just annoys the living hell out of me. It seems like in it's in a different way than other agitators do though. I dunno, but you're right in that I wouldn't mind him being a Wing.

My observations thus far (if anyone cares): The refs need to learn what boarding is, or call "boarding" both ways. The Versus crew needs to stop riding JSG's jock so hard, most of his "amazing saves" on that 5-on-3 were awful shots or misses by the Sens, due in large part I think to the pathetic Anaheim ice. Other than those two qualms, this has been a really exciting game through 20 minutes. Let's go Sens!!

No, but it IS his fault he's the biggest tool ever. Seriously, the 1st time I saw him, my brother and I just cracked up.
-
I just got home and turned this on with 4 mins left. I don't care how much time is left in a game or what the situation is, you HAVE to call that hold on Pronger.
-
Yeah I remember hearing this, and that he would have to stick his head inside a dryer or something to do it between periods in Toronto. There's no denying it affects your lung capacity, I can't help but wonder if he'd be better without the habit. And like it was mentioned before, why not just start packin lips?

I think it's stupid to boo Sergei, and I think it would be even stupider to boo Shanny.

Who is your favorite all time player, AND your favorite active player?
seeinred replied to a topic in General
I'd have to say all time: Stevie Vladdy Active: Flip (with every other Red Wing a close second) Active (Non-Wing) Saku Koivu -
I never noticed this before If it's ok I'll start this round and hope for a last place finish ANA/OTT - OTTAWA in 4
-
It's crazy how when you think about it so many people improved: Cleary, Lilja, Flip, Datsyuk in the playoffs, and Quincey definitely didn't show his inexperience in these playoffs. Overall though, I'd have to say Flip, especially during this Ducks series. He made Niedermayer look like the hack of a defenseman he is on several occasions, and the faith that Babcock showed in him throughout the playoffs has to say something.
-
He also said that with Stevie retiring he felt it was the start of a new era in Detroit and his time to go. Although that may have just been diplomacy, it sure makes it seem like he doesn't really want to come back.
-
I could be wrong, but I think he was being ironic. And yeah, Drury would be amazing, but since I'm such a Teemu fan I'd love to see him rockin' the red and white.
-
I don't really feel the hatred that I normally feel with a rivalry. If it was a team full of hacks like Pronger then definitely But I think Nashville will end up being the closest thing we have to a real rivalry for the next little while.
