They were each only given minor penalties for leaving their creases during an altercation. It doesn't matter how far a goalie goes really, that's a pretty black and white 2 minutes. The game misconducts could have been for several different reasons. Refs have a ton of choices for misconducts when it comes to fighting or altercations (all fights are altercations; not all altercations are fights as defined by the NHL rulebook). They could have been ejected for fighting after the original altercation, continuing a fight despite an official's instruction to stop, or even for the language they use. The rulebook actually notes that it purposely gives refs a ton of leeway to hand out misconducts when it comes to altercations.

Well, because of the game misconduct. It should go down as the 5th shutout in NHL history not credited to a goaltender, only the team.

Agreed, I wish I could give your post a couple more +'s. Since before I was even allowed to check, coaches told us to take a number and get him back later. Whatever happened to that philosophy?

It's certainly not the worst thing I've ever seen, but it was a ***** move by Staal. Reminiscent of Tootoo on Robidas, just not nearly as bad. I just wish Boyle had given him a nice way to remember not to do s*** like that.

Subban hit the "oh s***" button and made it a lot worse on himself. And to add to what others have said about Subban having to watch out for this kind of thing: His reaction to the hit only makes him a more enticing target. You get to lay out somebody you don't like and get a powerplay for it? Hell yeah!

He's one of my favorite players and I've always wanted him in Detroit, but he doesn't really add anything the team needs (except borderline play, an occasional fight, and good shootout numbers).

I'm guessing Legends' Club too. You should definitely do it. I've been to a few games in the Champions' Club at Comerica and it's a great time.

I get that argument (and agree with most of it), but brushing it off is the easiest solution. It's not the best solution, I suppose, but it's a whole hell of a lot easier than changing people's racist/bigoted/sexist/whatever views. Like I said, more power to him if he can actually effect some change, but I just don't see it happening. I guess what it comes down to for me is that I honestly can't comprehend how someone can let other people's words affect them negatively, especially in an environment where the profane and obscene are so common. But on the flipside, I also can't comprehend how someone, seeing that their words are hurting someone, wouldn't make an effort to at the very least tone it down, especially with how tight-knit hockey teams are.

Brush it off, dude. These are just words. They can't hurt you. I heard worse from my coaches when I was a peewee. That doesn't mean it's behavior that should be encouraged, but it's part of sports (especially hockey in my experience). I mean I guess if he wants to try to change the entire locker room culture, more power to him, but seriously... these are just words.

Because a player is a lot more likely to play for the Islanders when they're essentially forced to than if they're given the choice to do so.

The Wings did get a shot in the SO. Mason got his glove on Hank's. Or at least it looked like it to me on the replay. Also, Filppula needs to be used in the shootouts.

I feel bad for MacDonald, 2 games, 2 losses that weren't even close to his fault.
