some strange things have happened in hockey. But I'm sure over the duartion of his Career, Steve has had chances to go other places. But his loyalty is one of his greatest attributes. I sure he loves Canada, but he represents that fine at the worlds and the Olympics. When it comes to the NHL, he is a Red Wings, and I dont think anything will change that.

As with some others, sorry to stray away from the original topic, but commenting on the above statements about Miller. With Buffalo gettin raped by UFA, they will have more than an abundance of money to sign him when the time comes. Obviously there is more to signing than just money, players probably enjoy going to good teams, but Buffalo will be able to offer some good coin.

I think it is def more important to ensure Getzlaf remains a duck. And Burke knows that. Obviously he'd rather have everyone on his roster remain in tacked, ... gives him the best shot to repeat. But with way the Salary cap works, at some point, you are going to have to pick and choose.
-
Even if Neids retires, the Ducks could still hold one of the strongest defences in the league. As pointed out in above posts, there are still a few guys out there who could be signed to fill the gaps.
-
I do wonder about that too. I lived in Australia for 2 years, and 2 teams in the AFL (I believe it was 2, could have been 3) were allowed to spend a little more on the salary cap to attrack players to further locations. If a team like Detroit in the west, or the Oil, Calgary, whoever, has to travel 'x' amount of km/miles a year more than other teams, they should be in some way compinsated for it.
-
How much room do the Ducks have under the cap? If Selanne decides to come back, is there room for that. Or Neids for that matter? I guess, those two may have had something to do with Burke denying that amount.

I noticed it this last season. They used the vitage blue/green jersey a lot. So I wouldn't be suprised if thats the way they went. I live in BC, and seeing the meaning, I actually like the Orca. I wish they found a way to do it better, who know's, anything can happen.

If we can afford him (after signing 'Z',) isn't Heatley up for UFA next year. I'd love to have him.
-
As always, a few nice clips of our bouys. I loved after the cleary hit, how you looked at Phaneuf, and you could tell he had no clue what was going on. Haha.

Why is everyone so opposed to a 3rd Wings jersey? We act like our logo and style has been the same sicne day 1. Look ay history pics, the jersey and logo have changed. True, I dont want some of the s*** that has been put out there, but it doesnt have to be bad., Look at the NYR. They have an equaly classic jersey, but made a very respectible 3rd with the statue of liberty. If its done right, I'd have no problem with it. I've seen some of the photo-shop ones that have been put on here in the past, and some of them aren't that bad.

Agreed. I'm not huge on bringing back old, once were great players, (ahem ... Dmac) no matter how much we/I may have loved them at one point. But if we could bring him back, and sign him at the right price (not sure when his current contract is up) I'd take him.

I remember I went to watch a game in 02' (haha, i've told this story like a million times) and we had a PP. Up front were Yzerman, Shanny, and Hull, and on the point were Lids and Fedorov. For 2 straight minutes the puck didn't leave the canucks zone. It was amazing. He is great back there. Problem is. He is a forward. He wants to score, to lead that charge. He can do it from the point, but its easier up front. Plus, his natural instinct to move forward, wont that cause problems of him gettin caught and opposing teams getting odd man rushes?
-
While obviously I would have loved to have seen Bertuzzi of 02' return for us, I was not entirely disappointed with his overall play. (this coming from someone who does not like the guy) I remember in the first round when he got in little tussels with Phanuef. I dont know if it was bad blood spilling over from Vancouver vs. Calgary days, but I loved seeing it. Brought me to my feet a few times. I'd have really liked to have seen him sign back here for another year, but at the price that Burke gave him, not a chance.

Agreed. Originality counts for big points!

Even over say, Selanne? I think Forsberg may have once given more to a club than Selanne, but with Petes injuries, i'm not so sure. Though, that being said, I find it hard to see Selanne leaving the Ducks for any reason but retirement.
-
As scary as our boys going down was. I have to agree. I loved Lilja's game in the playoffs, but the second he coughed it up ... I just had this sickening feeling.
-
Forsberg always has the potential to be dominant, but his injuries are never ending. I know wh have put a ton of faith on another somewhat often injured player, but his injury woes are nothing compared to Forsberg. Then with Feds, well, his leaving Detroit was one of the 3 saddest events I can ever remember in hockey. I truly love the guy so I am torn. He hasn't played the same since leaving the Wings, and with his age, I doubt he is ever going to play that way gain. However, if he were to come back as a role player I sitll think he could have something to offer. But then again, how much longer is his contract for. Because I'd want to re-sign him for a pay-cut. Would he ever do that or just retire? Only time I suppose.

Not sure if it has been asked in another one of the threads, but does anyone have any idea as to when the WIngs are going to show there new jersey? Or are we just waiting for camp/season?

I know it has been said that Lowe is being a dick, etc. But the way I see it. It is becoming far more coming for players to accept offers and move into non-traditional hockey markets for the right price. And the Oil went from game 7 Stanley Cup finalists to bottom feeders. They lost a TON of talent to trades and UFA's. He is just doing what he has to to attempt to salvage a team there. I dont think the Ducks get keep up with this. They are already so close to cap, and this pretty much will eliminate any shot of S. Neids or Selanne returning. Say what you want about Lowe, but he is being aggressive and trying to keep a some what competative team in Edmonton. A lot more than can be said for a lot of other GM's in the league.
-
I was one of those guys who was very Firm saying Ryan Smyth would Never leave the Oilers. SO I suppose I could be wrong here too. But it seems odd that Selanne would leave the Ducks. They are Stanley Cup Champs and he was a Big Part of that title. I suppose if the decision is based on potential retirement, then I can somewhat understand ... but deciding to go to another team just seems an odd call. So does the very little cap room that Burke has left to sign him. Burke is a smart GM, but has almost completely closed that door.
-
Yeah, seen this before. It is decent, but compared to some of other ones out there, not so hot.
-
I really did enjoy the physical game Markov brought to our team. He was part of my personal favoirte play from last season, when he drilled the guy on the Oilers and that lead to a sweet Datsyuk goal. But for what Markov is asking, I think we would be best suited elsewhere. I dont realistically see Selanne leaving the Ducks, persnally I am really suprised he hasn't been signed already. But of the three, Selanne is definalty the guy i'd take.

Remember Jamie Mclennen Calgarys stick swingin backup

Haha, I still the he is a Huge ******, but i'll give that skit props, it was pretty funny. -
Considering some of the butcher jobs I have seen, that jersey really isn't that bad. I'm curious ... I've looked at Wings Jerseys from beginning to now. ANd while it had remained basically the same, changes have been made. And A lot of Wings fans seem to be under the impression that it is exactly the same as 80 years ago. Were the riots in Detroit when the altered it in the past?

Haha, I like the quote where the guy says he will have to take a large amount of responsibility for the team. Are there teams that dont make playoffs in that league?
