    Simon pulls a McSorley

Of Course if he had turned to face Bert things would have turned out different. Even if they fell the same way result could have been different. Maybe this time Bert would have come down on his chest stopping his heart!?!?! Fact is what happened is what happened. No point I trying to say, what if?

A Question About The Mark Messier Leadership Award...

I tend to kinda agree, but look at it this way. Wayne doesn't have an award named after him yet. (not that I am aware of anyway) I'm sure in time, Steve and Wayne will have that honour too. Perhaps Steve's will be the year ending leadership award, and Gretzky's the lifetime achievment award.

Peguins Declare Impasse in Arena Talks...

This is getting a little old. I know they really want a new arena, and I understand a complete relocation is a HUGE call, and there may be more behind closed doors than I know about ... but this is starting to seem like 'boy who cried wolf' threats. ... if that makes sense. Just seems like Mario keeps threatening but then nothing happens. I know the team should cater to the people of Detroit, but NO!!! haha, sorry, I will remain biased. Sure I woulfd love to see Detroit play Toronto a fe wmore times every year, but I like Detroit where they are.

Aside from whether his name and number deserve to be retired, I would suggest you enjoy the remaining 20 minutes you have on the forums. Piss off.

    wings in ot

Definatley something we will have to work on before the playoffs. I mean, i know we have had a healthy line up for sometime, but I'm sure when our full roster is back, plus our new additions it will make a difference. Come playoff hockey, OT hockey is as good as it gets, and I dont always wanna be on the lossing end.

OFFICIAL: Todd Bertuzzi a Red Wing

Okay, there are a lot of threads, equalling a ton of pages to go through, so just curious if anyone reading this could fill me in on todd's current status? I mean, a month ago they said he would be playing before the deadline, so just curious as to how that is holding up? Is he skating? Practicing with the team? 1 week/2weeks away? Anything?

Screw Sidney, the Saviour Has Arrived

Found this: Can Jessica Simpson save the NHL? Sex and sport; some may not like the mixture, but there's no denying the effectiveness. So I thought I'd have a little fun with the idea... A post at the always-entertaining Freakonomics blog a while back got me thinking about the issue indirectly when they emphasized the differences and similarities between Canada and the USA. Using the top 2006 searches on the Yahoo! search engine as the basis for comparison: You'll note - perhaps not surprisingly - "NHL" was the #1 Canadian search term in 2006. By contrast, Americans were most in need of information about "Britney Spears". (Good grief, America. Although to make fun of Canadians, look no further than #s 6,7 and 8 on Canada's list. Britney Spears might be an improvement.) But Freakonomics pointed out there is one individual person that both Canada and America had in common in their queries: Jessica Simpson. Is this information useful? Absolutely. It's a marketing bonanza that should take all of North America by storm: take Jessica Simpson, plaster her into every NHL television advertisement produced, and voila! Magic! And if you don't think selling sex has any place in the NHL, you'll have to pardon me for disagreeing. Or at least insisting that you're a few days late to the trend - sex already sells the NHL in cities all over the league. (Hello, Ice Girls! Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers, New York Islanders… and so on.) And furthermore, while the NBA isn't a professional league I'd want to see the NHL emulate in many ways, you've got to admit they know how to run their marketing efforts. One more thing: if you look at the list above, you'll see one other match between nations: WWE. I'm no fan of the wrestling world, but I think it's a telling commonality, and what it tells me is this: people everywhere love a good whooping. Bring on the hockey fights! Sex with a touch of violence. Is it My NHL? Sure, I'm cool with it. (hmmm, not sure how to attach the pic) fox sports But my response ... can she save the NHL? ... she can save WHATEVER she endources.

This only happens in video games, right?

yeah I saw this when it happened. I jsut watched with my jaw open. Seeing as how he was standing still and straight up for the 2nd and 3rd, that is all upper body stregnth, looks wicked.

Are we going to make it happen?

I'm getting confused ... I don't know which thread to post on right now, haha.

    TKACHUK or GUERIN ?

I dont care what Holland has to do, take a fine, defer contract payments over the next 300 years, but i want our team to look like this following deadline day: Zetterberg Datsyuk Holmstrom Guerin Tkachuk Weight Bertuzzi Lang Cleary Tucker Sundin Draper (the no trade clause to satisfy southernwingsfan) hmmm, maybe on D pick up Brewer to take Lillys spot. oh yeah, and bring in Brodeur as Doms back up. ... and ... GO!!!

What happened to our rivalry with the Avs?

Dammit, I was looking for a thread form a few weeks ago which was the perfect response. I dont know who said it, if he reads this, know that I'm not taking credit for your work, just trying to respond. He basically ripped an Av's fan who was trying to defending Claude and said something along the lines of: We won more games overall, more games against them, won more Stanley Cups and while we have been able to remain amongst the leagues elite the Avs are now bottom feeders who don't make the playoffs. We won the rivalry and they can't compete with us anymore ... that is why it is dead. I thought it was a damn fine response, so to whoever recalls typing something along those lines.

    OFFICIAL: Forsberg traded to Predators

Agreed. I dont in any way think Nashville has jeapordized much, and I do think they are a strong contender.
  17. Yeah, I understand that them wearing the equipment drives home that they are hockey players into the head of non-hockey market places. But I think they would've been just fine wearing something else. Even male stripper clothes, (firefigher, or even hockey-stripper clothes) ... ... don't know if this is entirely apporpraite, but I went to a strip club (female though) one time and one of the dancers came out in this hockey get up. She looked unrealm one of the best i've ever seen. But then again, what looked good on her may not look at good on the Sedin's. But so far the Tampa Bay with Lecavier and Richards is my favortie. Its funny, they aren't at home playing games with there equipment on!!! and pretty much immitating somethign we have all done.

    On the bright side..

You could tell all the jokes you wanted, be a millionaire, by her a castle, and a pony, and well everything, and all Hank would have to do is give her a wink and she'd be gone. haha.

    What's our answer?

Well as for being sincere, truly dont worry about it, no offence was taken. I know it is sometimes hard to judge a persons tone threw typed words, sometimes I fear ppl think I am a dick. Yeah, I think if it were earlier in the year and Hejduk had come available I think with our initial scoring problems Detroit would have been in there. But since Zets and Dats have got going, I think (in my opinion, cant speak for Kenny) that a more physical forward is what we are after. That being said, its not like there are a ton of guys out there matching those requirements. Oh yeah, and what is this about Joe talking about being shipped?

    Craziest Deadline Scenarios/Deals

Yeah, no doubt it would be great to have a new rivalry worth while, but in truth i coudn't ever see wars between us and nashville. i dont really want to turn this into a "we need more grit" thread, but i just can't imagine us vs. the preds like the avs of the 90's. I pretty much did the same thing, I sat down for a drink w/ the sum friends after class today and looked at the TV and saw Forsbery in front of the Pred logo and just said, "Sheeeitt" I love our team, but we something in there for sure.
  21. arnoldbuck

    What's our answer?

I agree, the wings do need a second line that can do damage. I cringed momentarily when they moved Dats and Zets back together, but with the result I am not complaining about that. But if we hit a hot defense who can slow those guys another group is going to have to step up. And yes, Lang has a lot more trade value than J-Will or a few other guys for that matter, but it is Trade-deadline time, so some teams are dropping players to lower wage, so perhaps we don't have to trade Lang. We can use a lower option in a trade, or two.
  22. arnoldbuck

    What's our answer?

haha, there has been a good turn over for the whipping boy ... onto J-Wills, the occasional Dats thread, and most recent and strong atm, good ol' Lilly. 'Go get um' turtle!'

    Seattle looking to join NHL?

I think Seattle would be good. But good call above, would that be a move or a 31st team? Probably a move, especially with several teams still hurting. Wasn't there an article a few days ago about the Preds struggles? I will also say (though it has been hashed in many other threads) that there are a greeeeat many cities I would choose before Winnepeg. Some folks made a decent arguement for Ontario the other day but sorry Manitoba, ain't gunna happen. Yes you built a new arena, but with what 14,000 seats? You had your shot and lost it. Why risk it on a market which already failed?
  24. arnoldbuck

    What's our answer?

I tried to find a little smiley hanging himself. I know as Red Wings fans we have been a little bit spoiled since the mid-90's. Some amazing teams, wicked players, 3 cups, so perhaps our expectations are a little high. But none the less, I seem to think every year we have a shot and we get bounced, so I will just try, try again.
  25. arnoldbuck

    What's our answer?

haha, not sure if that was serious, but if it is don't worry about it. I wasn't offended. Everyone has opinions and this is the place to share them. Whether you like guys or not, everyone is going to see them in a different situation. I know we have to think about next year, and the year after that, and after that ... but it's been its been 5 years since the cup was in Detroit ... i'm getting impatient.
