Does anybody watch the game on NHL Gamecenter Online? I've got weird problem. There are two pictures stacked vertically with a green line across the middle of the screen between them.

The way I read it Islanders can appeal to NHL to toll Nabokov's contract. So it is not guaranteed that he will be their property next season. How likely it is that NHL would grant Islanders request I have no idea.

Looking at even bigger picture try expanding this view on the economy as a whole. I guess it would not work if people were allowed to work "wherever they wanted for whomever they wanted for any amount of money they wanted".

Also the only reason Nabokov would have signed with Islanders is money. They would have had to pay him real salary.

Nabokov's stats in regular season and playoffs are about the same (GAA and Save %). He might not have stolen any playoff games for Sharks, but did he have some really bad games and caused them to lose? I do not follow Sharks that much to remember.

I think that most of the public statements made in this case have little to do with reality. I would guess that Nabokov and Red Wings discussed and agreed what his role on the team would be.

He did not get what he wanted, but it does not mean he should take something he definitely does not want.

The idea that a person can be compelled to work against his will just does not sound right regardless of what contract law or NHL rules might say.

Sure he can. It is only a job. He should be financially secure by now. If things does not go his way Nabokov can just retire and start a vineyard of something.

I am not saying that the rules change. I am saying that Nabokov can afford to give a finger to Islanders but a rookie player cannot do that. Nabokov played 10 seasons in NHL. I would guess that his character traits are well known by now. I do not think that being suspended by Islanders affects his chances of being signed next year. He wanted too much money this year and no team could accommodate him. But next season if he agrees to play for 2 mil I would guess he would find a team to play for.

As far as I can tell this has been listed as one of the possible outcomes by people reporting on the story, not the certainty. If that turns out to be the case then Nabokov got some bad advise regarding how CBA works.

Where the player is in his career is significant. Rookie hoping for a long and successful NHL career has a different set of options compared to a veteran player who is few years removed from retirement (and did not waste all the money he earned). Veteran player can afford to play because he wants to not because he has to. It appears that Nabokov does not want to play for Islanders and they do not have the leverage to make him. Why would they want disgruntled employee anyway?

I am sure he knew and understood the risks. But Nabokov is not losing anything by not reporting. He is back to the position he was before he signed with Wings, not playing and not getting paid. He should have enough money to last until a job, which he find acceptable appears. Each side is acting within its rights. Islanders are free to claim him and Nabokov is free not to play for them.

Nabokov did not sign contract with NYI. He signed with Red Wings. This situation is very different from the case when a player signs a contract and then decides to hold out. Why should Nabokov feel obligated to play for Islanders? I am puzzled why NYI claimed him? They could have guessed that he would not report.

Both Ovechkin and Kovalchuk have their carriers made financially. It probably makes media need them more than the other way abound. I've seen parts of this game. It did look like Ovechkin cared about the outcome during the game. Ovechkin and friends are being rude having rather loud conversation while Capitals coach is doing press conference nearby. They should have known better. So they are guilty of bad manners. But it seems like laughing is being singled out as grossly inappropriate behavior after a loss. If Ovechkin was swearing revenge next time the teams meet would it have changed anything?

Why should either of the players involved care about media? Only the person signing their checks matter. Capitals are still at the top of the East and Ovechkin is top 5 in points. So they lost a regular season game. Big deal. I would guess Ovechkin is pretty confident that Capitals will get their playoff spot and this loss does not bother him enough to have a somber face media expects.

I had to switch to the Oilers feed. FSD picture looks like crap.

We got same number of points as Chicago having played 5 less games. Not bad at all.

Good period. Even the first was not so bad with exception on the penalties. Pretty solid defense and scoring from 3rd and 4th lines (well Dats played a major role in the second goal).

This power play turned bad fast. 3 on 4 is not fun.

Any law can be changed with application of sufficient number of lawyers.

It is not like there is a huge market for hockey players out there. Where would all the expensive stars go? The only reason salaries are rising is because NHL team owners are rising them.
