From what I've seen in first (and I haven't seen the goal against) Howard looks capable of being backup goalie.

This is great! Just 4 days before I can watch some hockey. It does not even matter that I don't care about Islanders and Canucks.

What did he do? I have to agree with earlier post that he was one of the best at getting rebounds. McCarty was not anything special in hockey.

He should keep the gloves on. Those hands got better uses than banging on somebodies helmet.

I think you make it sound worse than it is. He would need somebody he can trust to take care of him. But he is not first foreign player to go there. I did not hear that Ray Emery got into any trouble over there so McCarty should be able to last a season. And he is not without local connections. Fedorov and Fetisov probably are not his close personal friends but he should be able to turn to them for advise regarding life in Russia. $3mil vs $20k would not do it for you, really?

I think Eaves can be good in shootout. I seem to remember that he is quite skilled.

I am fairly certain there is a form of profit sharing in NHL. The TV deal NHL has sucks. I don't think there is much there to share. The league gets most of its revenue from ticket sales.

But it appears that most of NHL team cannot get enough revenue to have such payroll.

I am with you. I don't care if driver insulted Kane's mother and all his relatives. Can't use physical force against words.

I am not sure why people care that much if he was drunk or not. Actual charges appear to be much more serious than underage drinking (which I guess is a misdemeanor).

Really? Hitting a guy, who looks like he is at least 60? I can't seem to find an angle, which will make Kane looks good in this case.

Detroit signed Eaves. No need to bother about Zherdev now.

I was asking what would be the point of Wings offering Zherdev 2.75. He did not take 3.2 from Rangers. Unless he offers to play that amount of money himself it is just a waste of time. Hudler contract is not a good reference point in any case. It is more of a safety net in case his KHL gig goes bad. Chances are Hudler is not going to play for Detroit next two years.

And now Wings don't have Hudler. Wings can offer 2.75 to Zherdev and they would not have Zherdev either. What would be the point of this exercise?

He did not take 3.2 from Rangers. He does not seem to be the kind of guy who will take less to play for Detroit.

That is too much for Zherdev. That guy always seem to have issues follow him. He is a talented scorer but I wonder how many GMs are willing to take a chance on him at this price. For almost $4mil you would expect player to provide some reliable effort and be able to motivate himself.

Are you guys sure that if he plays two years in Russia his contract with Wings would still be in place? My guess is that it starts now and it will be done in two years and he will become UFA. My understanding is that the contracts with the Wings only matters if he returns after playing one year in Russia.

He can't play for another NHL team. I think it is as far as restricted free agency goes. He is not obligated to play for Red Wings.

If we are desperate. I haven't seen much of him lately but I seem to remember that he is not that fast and not known for defensive play. I would rather give a chance to young guys.
