I would say that Yakupov, or any other player for that matter, should pay very little attention to reaction to their celebrations as long as there is something to celebate. He is on the ice to score goals not to figure out what fans (of other teams) can or cannot stand. My guess is that there are no many Oilers fans who have a problem with Yakupov. If league sees this as an issue they should come up with a penalty for excessive celebration.
-
So players on opposing teams do not like when Yakupov scores on them and celebrates. Well, this is too bad. Pleasing Phoenix Coyotes is really not his job. The kid is 18. I think it will be rather sad if all the negative attention would make him to follow the "code". I hope he is strong enough to ignore all of it and do as he feels like.
-
I think that (some) owners equate state of their own wallets with the health of the league.
-
Both Canadian location mentioned are to the east of Detroit. I do not see any cities left in Western/Mid Canada where an NHL team can be placed.
-
Pretty much every goal in soccer is celebrated this way. Those guys also manage to slide surprisingly far on grass before bunch of teammates piles over the goalscorer. I do not have a problem with Yakupov's celebration. After all it was a game-tying goal in less than 5 seconds left. Oliers fans in the stands did not seem to have a problem with that.

Don't be so hard on Spurgeon. I like him better than Suter so far.
-
Also the puck was gone already. I understand that player is allowed to finish his check but Schenn took quite a run into this one. The stated purpose of hockey hits is to separate player from the puck. I guess league is trying to send a message to not make hits just for sake of hitting.
-
Parise worth every penny. Suter on the other hand so far has not been good. Not a disaster but so far nothing to pay $100M for.
-
No. I am getting Detroit feed.

Watching STL-NSH game while waiting for Red Wings to start. Tarasenko is no fluke. Already got goal and an assist in the first period against Nashville. -
This. There was an argument made in some thread that guys who played in Europe forgot how to deal with more physical nature of NHL. But Kovalchuk and Malkin does not appear affected. And Chara probably did not get any softer either.
-
This just sounds bitter. Yes, Wings needed Suter but this alone is not enough to sign him. Apparently Suter did not need the Red Wings. I think it is a mistake to assume that given the same deal any hockey player would pick Detroit over any other team. Everybody got his reasons for doing one thing instead of another. Keeping one's wife happy is actually not bad reason.

Both teams generated enough scoring chances but goaltenders were very good. I was impressed with the Dallas goalie especially since I never heard about him before.

Finesse hockey may or may not be winning today. But it has nothing to do with Wings play yesterday. I do not recall seeing any finesse from Detroit players,

Kovalev got 3 points (1G, 2A) in his first game for Florida. Not so bad for 39 year old.

Just signed up for NHL Gamecenter Live. $50 is a small price to pay for ~25 Red Wings games. -
Visnovsky files NHLPA grievance to void NYI trade

Sure. If you forget for a moment that trades are common practice in NHL then the idea that a person can be moved between employers without his/her consent would appear outdated to put it mildly. -
As far as popular culture goes it is really no different than US just not in English. Growing up with Russian language sounds more believable to me.

In the past blackout lasted couple of days. So you could watch the game, just not when it matters. -
Most of us play for free because nobody would pay money to see us play. If anything, professional athletes earn their money in rather transparent manner compared to other occupations, which pull similar incomes. They get paid because people pay to see them play.

Yes. Franchise need to set standards. "We will try to accomodate our players if at all possible" is a good standard to set. If Pavel truly wants to play in KHL All Stars game then Wings have more to lose by denying him. This game is week before the NHL season starts. It is plenty of time given that he is in mid-season form already.
-
According to today's Russian news Kovalchuk is going to play in the KHL All Stars game. Pavel and other NHL players (Ovechkin, Malkin, etc) got removed from the All Stars rosters.
-
Why? My bet if KHL had to pick they would rather keep Kovalchuk.

Visnovsky files NHLPA grievance to void NYI trade

Well, NHL rules are not universal. If a player does not need the money he can always just quit the NHL and play for a beer league in his home town. Visnovsky might run into issues trying to continue to play in KHL. I am not really a big fan of draft and trades without players consent. Player should be able to pick the place where he wants to play.
