Other teams Hasek could go to?

Hasek could go to San Jose or Tampa Bay...with him in net both would contend for the Cup. It likely won't happen but with Dominik you never know. Edit: Colorado same story if they send Theo out. I think they will be active on the free agent front after last season's failure. Could be interesting.

    Best and Worst jerseys

The regular Nash jerseys are MUCH worse than the now-defunct yellow one, which isnt even as bad a color as the Bruins "bear-face" ones. And the 3-d logo is cool. C'mon guys, it's obvious Buffalo has the worst jerseys... Edit: Yes, all time, Wild Wing takes the crap cake. Red Canucks jersey=Awesome Although they should've put the yellow stripe BEHIND the skate rather than "in front", would've looked better and now that I examine it seems like a stupid graphic miscue.

    Bigger Nets?

I don't agree...his game excels because of it, but every goaltender's game is based on proper positioning, even Hasek's. You don't make saves in the NHL without it, the equipment is not the major issue people believe it is. People thought shrinking the equipment last time would have an effect, and it succeeded in ruining Jose Theodore's game and no one else's ...and trust me, they dramatically shrank the equipment. You don't understand unless you've tried playing goalie with an old style catcher and then a new style catcher. Or pants. Or smaller chest pad. Goaltending is just as important a skill and art as is shooting the puck into the net or clearing it off the glass...simply there are fewer goalies to defend that point of view, and sadly, they will get the shaft because of it. Anyone who can't recognize this is not looking at the facts of the situation.

    Bigger Nets?

Yeah, you mean a great distortion of reality. Would you mind using a picture of a goalie in THIS era to prove your point rather than a 10-year-old one? Roy and Snow/Giguere are probably the two or three main offenders in equipment size in a period of time when taking advantage of limited equipment regulation was the rage; not all goalies have done this. Equipment has grown but everything has changed: players are faster, stronger, better than they've ever been. You can't just pretend the 1980s are what the NHL is about. It's not like anyone looks like Roy did in 1996 now--they identified the problem and corrected it. But now that there has been a change, people think, why not a little more, a little more? Face it guys, goalies are just better. Giguere would still be a super goalie with smaller equipment, you're just in denial because the Wings keep losing to him.

You can buy the Stanley Cup for $250

Looks horrible--waaaaaay overpriced. At least make it life-sized...you can't even lift it at 2 ft. effectively, you might as well use a trash can. Of course you'll have to take this thing out of it before you do.

    Bigger Nets?

Hey buddy, leg pads are the same size they've been for decades, actually, they are thinner than they have ever been, capped at 38" height...did it ever occur to you perhaps that goaltenders just became better athletes, and Hull is a goal-hungry loudmouth? I'm sure goal scorers would love to be shooting at Georges Vezina in there with his cricket pads but that would not, in fact, be, as one might say, for lack of a better word, taking all things into consideration, hockey.

    Bigger Nets?

This thread makes me sick...why does everyone crave change? You're just buying what Bettman and the money-grubbing owners are selling, trying to turn hockey into an NBA circus of goals because they think that will make fairweather idiots watch and pay for it. Have you watched hockey prior to the Crosby Era? It has been a low scoring game, as has been mentioned, forever. Of course the people that oppose bigger nets and tiny goalies are goalies and traditionalists...if you're a non-goalie, and the league brings forward a proposal that will help you score more goals, of course you'll be for it. If you're a traditionalist, you enjoy hockey for what it is, what it was, not what it can be distorted into. Goalies wear pads to block net, not to "prevent injury in collisions". Forwards use sticks to score. That IS the game. People still get 50 goals a season, games still end 2-1 and 5-3. This is still hockey and the NHL but not for long if you people have your way. P.S. Quit messing with goalie equipment; all the goalies in the developmental leagues all the way through college and even rec leagues are forced to buy new gear because of the ridiculous NHL sizing rules...even Europe is changing. So don't be so naive to think that a radical equipment change will only affect NHLers. And as far as making the nets 8 inches wider and 6 inches higher not having a DRAMATIC effect...give me a break. It would totally change the way the position of goaltender is played. All records would be irrelevant and the game would be ruined. Goalies would be concussed regularly and groin injuries would increase even more than the switch to the 11-inch pads caused. Reality check?

ESPN lists Best & Worst All Time draft picks

Not that this needs to be pointed out but based on what this post's topic is ("Three Red Wings make the list"), it should be noted that Dominik Hasek is on the Red Wings. If the post's topic was "Three Wings' picks make the list" then maybe the exclusion would be tolerated.

    Bruins Change Logo

Dude, we get it, it's the shoulder patch The 'B' is a lot better, the circle actually LOOKS like a wheel with spokes now instead of a glowing letter B. And for the guy defending the Buffalo logo, just take a moment...a yellow Buffalo?

    Official new NHL jersey thread

Let's face it...the Wings jerseys are going to be slightly different. The jerseys' panel composition is so different that there will be extremely minor tweaks, minor enough to be considered "the same" but changes nonetheless. For instance, all teams' jerseys MUST have the NHL shield on the front base of the collar, so that is going to make the collar look different, and the new jerseys I have seen, a lot of them have that "square piece" at the sharp part (see Caps jerseys) of the collar, so it may even have that, but at the very least the collars are going to look different with the shield. Another change that I have heard is the seams are going to be red which will give the jersey a pin-striped look in the underarm area...this was from someone here on the board but it seemed logical and again a minor enough change that will make the jersey look different without really altering anything... Edit: Both Caps/Bruins logos are great...both very retro and nice. Here's hoping others trend in this direction and not in that of the Flames *puke*

    Amusing Ray Emery article...

Here's an article I found discussing Ray Emery. While not a huge Emery fan, I've been impressed with his effort in the Finals...you can see he's trying his hardest. The website is BlackAthlete.net, so obviously there's a touch of racial bias in this, but still, I got a few chuckles. http://blackathlete.net/artman2/publish/Ho...ng_Ottawa.shtml Some excerpts: The Senators remind me of the 2000 version of the late 90's Stanley Cup Champion Devils. Both New Jersey and Ottawa had to return to the Eastern Conference finals many times to finally gain respect throughout the league. ...Emery, a fourth-round draft choice for Ottawa in 2001, has worn the black, white, and red Senators uniform his whole carrier. He has improved with each outstanding season but most hockey fans did not notice him until the last three years when the Senators made the Eastern Conference Finals. ...Emery has a very unique goalie style combining the tactics from his short lived teammate in '05-06, The Dominator, Dominik Hasek from the Detroit Red Wings-Buffalo Sabres and Patrick Roy of the Colorado Avalanche and Montreal Canadians. Emery has more speed then both of this fine gentlemen so Ray stops many pucks that other goalies just can't stop.... ...His quick hands and feet are his trademark and many young goalies will be copying his style for years to come, just as young goalies mimicked Patrick Roy butterfly style 20 years ago. ...Ray Emery will always be living in the footsteps of the other famous Black Stanley Cup goalie Grant Fuhr (Edmonton Oilers-St. Louis Blues) and the question will remain can he win six cups like his fellow Black Canadian.

Hasek decision will come before Draft

Puckloo, I completely agree with you. Giguere is hugely overrated, just hugely. People don't realize how inconsistent he is, they get fooled by the media as you and I know can be a reality. His whole game is first save mentality, being in position, etc. etc., he is brutal side to side and with recovery. Also, people don't consider what is going to be happening down the road with the goaltending equipment...you sign this guy to a 7-8 million contract for 4 years, 2 years from now guys are going to be wearing 8 inch wide pads and their mother's sweater for a chest pad if Bettman and his scoring-obsessed cronies (i.e. Brett Hull, Ed Olczyk, Keith Jones, various general managers) do their damage. That or bigger nets. You'd be better waiting for Kiprusoff after next season, or, even better, hey, maybe giving, what, a young goalie a chance like everyone says they want to! Edit: If you want a stopgap for this season, get Belfour. Yes, Belfour. He played really well for Florida last season, believe me, I watched plenty of their games and he was solid, maybe a step down from Hasek but you can see he knows what he's doing out there. Read: stopgap

    Alfie Goes Unhinged

I hope you're kidding...this is nothing like tackling someone doing a layup or throwing a ball at a someone's head. Neidermayer was facing the play and saw the puck coming. Unless that shot goes really high nothing's going to happen. You've also got to realize that the two things you've compared it to never happen, whereas players have pucks flying at them constantly, and are prepared for it equipment-wise. What Alfredsson may or may not have done is fodder for discussion, but is really no comparison to the McLennan chop or even the Pronger elbows. Sure, Alfredsson's the captain for years, but let's take the Captain's C off him for this? Please...he didn't get a penalty for the shot or the face-wash "punch" that the Duck player dove on--there will be no suspension. What game were you watching out there?

    Getting Excited after game 5...

Both games fell on my birthday, May 20th, ruining my party. Like the rest of you, I also noticed this, both games the DET D let the opposition's best player (Forsberg/Selanne) have a breakaway in OT, and both times they scored on the same side with Dom doing the same basic move. *sigh*

WCF Game 2 (5/13): Ducks 4, Red Wings 3 OT

Blame Rob Schick on that third Ducks goal, for distracting Hasek seconds before the shot was taken by skating over and sticking his water bottle in the holder (it also appeared he said something)...meanwhile Giguere's bottle is sitting out of the holder all game.

    Hasek

The Globe and Mail's stat guru, Alan Ryder, suggests that, by analyzing the probabilities of shots taken resulting in goals, goaltending brilliance can be calculated, and the stats back up what we already know--Dominik Hasek has been, technically speaking, pretty darn good: May 9, Globe and Mail: hots and expected goals are not well-correlated. That is the whole point of studying the quality of shots and calculating expected goals. You can see that Detroit, as a team, likes to shoot regardless of the opportunity and has generally poor 'shot quality'. The second observation you might make is that the actual number of goals is less than expected goals. This is normal for the playoffs as the quality of defence improves. What really matters is the difference in expected goals. In [the Red Wings-Sharks] series the 'expected goals' winner was the actual winner in Games 1, 5 and 6. San Jose won a close Game 3 (expected goals 2.1 versus 2.4 for Detroit). But Dominik Hasek stole Games 2 and 4 for the Red Wings allowing only four goals when 7.4 were expected. This was a series won by goaltending. The pivotal fourth game was decided in overtime after the Sharks blew a 2-1 lead with less than a minute to play. But it was Hasek's stellar play that put the Red Wings in position for the comeback and victory.

Giguere or Michelin Man you Decide

If anyone was wondering whether goalies should start wearing Dragon SKin as suggested, defensetech.com reports the price for a set as $5000.00 (I assume USD). I can't see goalies below millionaire level wanting to shell out this sort of money for chest and arm protection. The armor covers the chest, groin, and shoulders. It would likely cost more if it were outfitted to include arms (who knows if it could even be developed to move with the arms?). Just FYI. Edit: Any more tinkering is just going to further ruin the game of hockey, but I have to agree that making equipment still smaller and screwing amateur goalies who now have to buy a new set of pads (pads widen as they are used) every year to conform to new NHL rules is better for the game than changing the nets, which WILL destroy the position of goaltending.

Giguere or Michelin Man you Decide

Goalie pads are 11" wide but they DO have a max height of 38". Goalies "cheat" by making the toe the minimum length and putting the added height on the rise...some compensate further by putting foam blocks on top of their skate, raising the leg pad even higher. Honestly, the WIDTH change has done nothing and possibly made keepers even better than they were. The height thing has a small effect. Jiggy's still looking big, but you really can't compare him to a guy like Brodeur who wears a chest pad modeled from the early 90's and minimal padding on the arms. If you think Nabokov has a big chest pad, he wears the exact same one as Hasek so you might as well include him, too. The reason Nabby's looks a little big is he doesn't clip it at the waist so it rides up. Hasek has the waist on his cut a little shorter and tucks it in also making it a look smaller. Basically, goalies are wearing NHL approved equipment and players are going to score goals no matter what size of equipment they are wearing...there is a standard in order to regulate fairness, so there's really no way to say Giguere is being anything less than fair. This is not a good argument...military equipment is developed with different agenda than goaltender equipment...I have a feeling the pricepoint would also be prohibitive. In addition, you have to allow a certain degree of "blocking privelege" for the goaltender, lest the scores in games be 20-18 and the defensive play gets even more furious. Also, they do limit chest pads--they have to fit the person wearing it and their are regulations that limit the layering as well as the height of the shoulder wings. People complaining have just forgotten how much bigger they USED to be. And any goalie that believes a couple inches of equipment makes much difference has a problem that isn't his equipment.

Petition to Tether Hasek to the Net

Seriously, it is so blind how the typical viewer insists how bad of a puckhandler Hasek is. Even analysts insist on this fact--unfortunately, these people are missing the fact, as mentioned, that most of his plays eliminate the opposition forecheck. At one point, when, on a SJ powerplay, he went behind the net between two Sharks that were literally a foot to either side of him, and subtly tipped the puck over the stick to his d-man in the corner, and I remarked to myself how many goalies would (and are even capable of) even attempt that. He makes a mistake here and there, but most aren't costly...even in Game 6, he doesn't come out against Grier, there's probably a scoring chance, so either way, it's team defence we're talking about. The basis of people saying he can't handle the puck are the ones that note that he doesn't have a lot of strength behind his passes/clears and use that as the measuring stick. This is true, and he has to make up for it with smarts. Dominik is probably the best pokechecking goaltender in the league as far as tipping centering attempts, as well as straight on chances, probably because the pokecheck is rarely taught to goalies anymore, thusly he is better with the stick than most save his actual shot power. Dom's is a game of details and he does it very well. People that say he can't play the puck and should stay in the net are sadly mistaken. You are completely wrong on all counts...sorry. People need to figure out what they're looking at, I think.

    The Dominator!

????????????????????????????? This post highlights a string of absurd comments by "fans" in this thread and on this board in general. I just shake my head in disbelief when I read things like this...
