Osgood has played three games and has "gotten his game back"? I don't think so. BTW Buffalo like an idiot gets another crap goalie. They are 0-3 since Miller went down but Lalime has given up 6 goals in 3 games including the overtime game. They were shutout by the ISLANDERS! the worst team in the league. And they get a goalie? It's silly. Edit: Roberts career is not over. Tampa will no doubt keep him the rest of the season, they were just trying to get rid of him but they waited too long.

If Detroit doesn't "need" a goalie then no team has ever needed one ever.

Yeah Jokinen...hmmm.

Connolly is a playmaker. Spezza-style. Joe Thornton doesn't exactly score a bunch of goals either. 4.5 million isn't outrageous for a guy who's been in the organization awhile (though he IS injury prone) and should lead the offense. from wikipedia: Though Connolly missed only 3 regular season games total in his first 4 seasons in the league, he has since been plagued by injuries. He missed the entire 2003-2004 season with concussion issues, missed a significant portion of the 2005-06 season, 80 games of the 2006-07 season, 34 games in 2007-08, and has already sat out for a handful of games during the 2008-09 season, due to various ailments.

That seems like a viable and reasonable assertion. I think Pierre can expect a ripped shirt and a choking with his own tie in 3...2...1...oh god.

2005-06, Vermette=too much to trade for goaltender that would've helped Senators in year they were expected to contend but couldn't due to their starting goaltender being injured half the time...2008-09, Vermette=worth trading for a guy from what has been one of league's worst teams who is injured half the time

Why oh why would the Panthers who look very likely to make the playoffs, who have said they may not trade Jay Bo an unrestricted free agent, trade Vokoun who has the second best save percentage in the league to Thomas and also two years left as stated? WHY? Zero chance, Florida has absolutely NO reason to do it. It just won't happen. Eklund may be known for fake rumors but this rumor isn't even remotely feasible along with being untrue. I'm sure the Wings would LIKE Vokoun. But yeah, nuff said. Why oh why would the Canadiens who look very likely to make the playoffs trade Jaroslav Halak who has won four straight games making 40+ saves in three of them with Carey Price looking pathetic most of the season and surrendering the #1 job let go of their starting goaltender? I have said the Habs needed a veteran all year but Halak is a season-saver at this point for that crap team. Montreal is barely in the playoff picture. Goalies available realistically: Legace Clemmenson Lehtonen Biron Gerber Anderson Leclaire Ersberg (?) Toskala (?) Fernandez (big maybe) Khabibulin (big maybe) The Caps should make a pitch for a goalie, Theodore will lose it for them this playoffs.

Pierre McGuire sucks so bad. He, Ed Olczyk, Keith Jones, and Drew Remenda should get a cabin somewhere and just get lost out there.

"All 30 GMs oversleep, record low zero deals made. Bettman cancels season. LGW revolt."

Yeah right, the Panthers are going to trade Tomas ******* Vokoun. That's about the dumbest idea ever conceived. Why don't the Wings "take a look at" Brodeur and Lundqvist while they're at it.

Sharks Pavelski gets a 5 minute major and a match penalty

First, wasn't a head butt. Jeez anyone could see that. Second, anyone ever try playing goal with the flu? No thanks. It's not even the playoffs yet, Boucher is 10-3 or something. Let him have a little rest. -
You're the one asking for clarification Jack. Also might as well note that Biron led the Flyers to the Conference Finals last year in his first ever playoffs. AND Khabibulin is one of only five goaltenders playing in the NHL to have won a Stanley Cup as a starter (Brodeur, Osgood, Ward, Giguere).
-
Well first, the reason I believe Biron to be an upgrade in goal: I've watched Biron since his very first game against the Penguins when he wore jersey '00' and got pulled and then put back in (haha). He was a hot chip in Buffalo but the Sabres had so many young goalies, first Shields, then Noronen, finally Miller. It was like the Sabres couldn't get through a draft without trying to find the successor to...well, you know who. Anyway, the point is, Biron has rarely been given the chance to get comfortable with a team. In Buffalo as soon as he started playing well they started trying to push him out in favor of Miller. In Philadelphia he's been pushed by Antero N... and has been up-and-down. The point is, he's a veteran who isn't "too old" and he's got to have a lot of drive to prove himself, prove something. To me that seems to be what people are pointing to with Chris Osgood this season, he doesn't have as much motivation, and it's true, why should he really? That's why Dominik retired after last season, he "didn't have the motivation," that it wasn't physical. Biron is a big goaltender who is still waiting for a chance, I think he would do great in Detroitland. As for what I was saying about Bulin, he feels to me like a Dwayne Roloson type this year. In 2006 when Edmonton picked up Roloson, they were out of the playoff picture by 3-5 points. Minnesota were leading the league in GAA but had both Fernandez and Roloson and decided to move Roloson. The Oilers made the playoffs by a single point (if memory serves), and there was a feeling if they could just get INTO the playoffs, they'd go far. They picked up Samsonov and someone else that deadline too. Do I think the Hawks will make the Finals with Bulin? No, they have their goaltending carousel and I just don't get the feeling that there is a belief there within the team, it's a "let's do our best and be happy with that" instead of "let's win the Cup". But if a team like Washington picks up Khabibulin or Philadelphia, where it is a "final move" to build a team to win the Cup, I think that team will succeed. Even though Khabibulin has had some rough games when I look at him in the net he feels in control. He watches the pucks and moves to them instead of just sitting there waiting like Huet or Price. He is a Stanley Cup winner and has that mental advantage. I really just feel if a team on the cusp of greatness yet held back by the goaltending question mark (Washington and Philly especially, Detroit of course but they can't take the hit) picks up Khabi it will be a success. I'm not convinced they would win it all but the East is so wide open with so many questionable goaltenders (Tim Thomas has had poor playoffs, Theodore is average at best, Vokoun's been playing incredible but has almost no playoff experience, and on and on) that the Bulin Wall would tip the scales in favor of his new team.

Satan is one of the softer players in my recent memory. That's always been the knock on him, he scores but he's a "Yashin type" in a lot of ways, "Sammy type" in LGW language. The thing is, even when Buffalo stank he scored, he was often their highest point scorer and yet was often a healthy scratch, that seemed really weird to me. 30 goals here, leading scorer there, he's consistently put up points. This year, not so much, why?
-
Biron IS an upgrade over Osgood/Conklin. He just is. If anyone but Chicago gets Khabi my money's on that team making the Finals. Washington should trade Nylander/Johnson/1st Rounder for Khabi. Philly could trade any number of people, Biron/Lupul/1st Rounder. Bulin is money.

Did you just use the word..."douchebag"? And Kevvie you used the word "spunk", both clearly with depraved sexual connotations detrimental to the bulletin board. You are both hereby suspended indefinitely.

Looks like the Red Wings & the Sharks battling off the ice, Robert

Filppula AND a prospect AND a draft pick? Fil straight up would be too much, Neil is dead weight. Why are people so disillusioned with Fil this year, he's a young player? The last thing the Wings need is anyone from Ottawa with the exception of maybe Alfredsson. -
But don't they see? They're best friends now...BEST FRIENDS!
-
Perfect solution for next year, dump the sieves Conklin and Os-whatever and sign these two! A Bettman-approved backline!
-
Wonder what Hasek's up to in 2010 other than backing up Vokoun in the Olympics. League minimum boys and girls!
-
So...no trades that could actually HAPPEN, eh? I love joke threads, so constructive.
-
He's going back to Grand Rapids, no doubt he'll be recalled again. Osgood is still in the can, remember? That said, how about dumping everyone and getting a REAL goalie for once. What's Craig Anderson in Florida up to these days?
-
btw the answer to that theoretical question is obviously "No" in case anyone was curious.

Best goaltenderS in the world (let's leave it to defined eras, read: late 90s, to dole out the BEST single title): Kiprusoff, Luongo, Thomas NOT one of the best goaltenderS: Conklin Interpret this how you will.

He wasn't even looking when the guy shot it, Turks knew he would probably be going high, lifted his leg, made the save. Goaltending is always mixed luck and skill, there's no point debating it--he stopped it. The real question I expected from posters of this board was, "Could he have made a perfect butterfly slide in perfect position to make this save rather than pointlessly being so overly flashy I wish he played for my team?"
