Very true Red; this is why he makes outlandish statements and predictions that seems he pulls from one of his orifices. It drawls people in and he can go to his advertisers and say I get this many hits a day. There is a whole lot of money being made on these types of sites. As one great prognosticator use to say, "Follow the money the money trail and it will lead you straight to the truth".

I totally agree. I have this old jersey in white, I like the blue and green color scheme. Now I might have to go out and buy one them again. Especially the blue one.
-
Yes very true, but I was looking at your board and you have Gillies going earlier. Talented big tough forwards usually aren't at 27. Do you think he could fall to them?
-
Thank you. White or Hoeffel sound like they would make a good fit with the Wings. But I could say that about them with 10 other teams. So maybe the Wings will get a little lucky like the Tigers did the other day and have a good prospect fall to them. We will see.
-
Sounds like you are hedging on the Swede, so who else could the Wings draft? I would like a power forward or a strong gritty defenceman. But picking 27th you do not get those. So we may have to settle with a small guy with great speed.

Bullocks I have to say to break the whole 1st round down takes a lot of dedication. I am one of those people that look the draftee up after all the picks have been made to see what my favorite teams have drafted. I hate to admit this but very rarely do I watch any junior games and I haven't watched a European game this season. So my draft knowledge is very limited. After the draft some of you guys who scout these leagues can please break down the guys that the Wings draft that would be great for some of us on LGW who are draft challenged. What is the word on the young Swede that you have the Wings drafting?

'How you became a Wings fan' Contest: Congrats, zaxx!

I still laugh at the name CHUM everytime I hear it on the radio. Of course maybe I will grow up one day, maybe. Thanks to all the out-of-towners that gave us such great stories. I really enjoyed all the stories. -
No question about it. A guy who goes for the body slam does not want to go toe to toe. Bert wasn't 100%, so that it is why he went in for the tie-up. Now as far as an enforcer goes I am all for it. But there isn't anyone out there that really catches my attention. All the good ones are locked-up except of course Big George. With the current management in there we will not see a fighter here. The only way it happens is if they accidentally draft one. We can always look at our tapes and reminisce about the good old days of Probert, Kocur, and a few others that graced the Wings uniform. At one time they use to draft enforcers, but that hasn't been the case for a long time

Welcome back Lou, Burke has done a great job with the Ducks, but credit also has to go to Brain Murray. He drafted a lot of those guys on the Ducks. Of course now he had a hand in the Wings being so successful. Maybe this man (Murray) will finally get his due. I think it will be a great series, both team are touch and physical. From an "Old Time Hockey" standpoint this is great.

I agree with you, it will be all about the money. But if I was his agent I would promote his history, send out his portfolio and doctors’ reports to show this guy can be what he use to be. Now if he doesn't receive great offers, the best scenario would be sign for 1 year and show off his talent. Then come back for the big money. Or the Wings could offer an incentive laden contract that offers him the opportunity to make his $$$.

I believe it is a combination of things. Before Steve retired and Shanahan left, they were very positive in some of their reporting, but now we do not have a Canadian superstar. Most of the Wings top players are European, so they do not have a local spin they can connect. The other is some of their people utter contempt for the Wings to call themselves Hockeytown. A lot of them really resent the Wings and look at them has arrogant jerks. In my opinion the main reason is the Wings win. They have a lot better organization than any Canadian team. They are always in top 5 teams and they have huge fan support. At least thats is what I get when I go on their boards, a lot of them really dislike the Wings. Maybe our Canadian friends can tell us some other reasons.

At times Dom has stood on his head and has made the Sharks shake their head in disbelief. But I have to say without him we would be DOA in this series. Joe Thorton's line has been absolutely controlling the play when they have been out there. If it wasn't for Dom making some great stops, Lang's goal wouldn't have mattered. There isn't to many goalies in this league could of done what he has in this year's playoff. I also want to commend the play of the 3 young guys Hudler, Franzen, and Flip. These 3 have proven themselves and it is great to see. They all have a chance to be stars in this league.
-
Lang hasn't played great hockey to say the least. But I like him centering the line with Bert and Calder. This would make line 2 such a contrast from the 1st line. I also want to see Hudler on the 4th line with Flip and Franzen. That line brings so much energy and is very difficult to play against. Keep lines 1 and 3 the same. No will I see this? Of course not, Babcock seems to like Sammy for some reason.

That is wonderful. Fans such as yourself is such a rarity. The Wings are so lucky as a sports team to have such a great fan base and we as a hockey community a very lucky to have all of you. This post and many of the stories that I have read have been great. Go Wings!!

The Wings played great in the first 2 games. In game 3 they will face the Flames best shot and we will see if this series goes 7. Watching the Flames this year, this team did play totally different at home then it did on the road. That is the reason I picked this series to 7, because I believed the Flames would win their home games and loose all the road games. I believe the best game for the Wings to win would be game 4. Game 3 will be very emotional for Flames and that energy will carry them for 3 periods. But the way the Wings dominated the first 2 gives me hope in getting 1 at Calgary.

Albom is one of those guys either love for his writing or hate for his part in the strike. For me, as he became more famous his sports articles suffered. I haven't read an article of his for years, but then again I haven't really read the Detroit papers in that time either. I get most of my news from the internet and the WSJ.

As I stated in the other post, I believe the Wings made a mistake. This kid has very good chance to be a good to very good NHL'er. Bert has not much of a factor so far and if he becomes just a rent-a-player, the Wings will have made a bad deal. But I will give them the benefit of at least trying to improve their chances at the CUP. Of course time will tell in this matter.
-
Very good post, we need to hear what is going on with the youngsters. I believe down the road the Wings are going to regret trading Shawn Matthias, especially if they do not sign Bert. They will wish they put someone else in that trade. He has the makings of being a solid 2nd line player and if he continues to improve, maybe a first liner.
-
Correct. It is a farming analogy Hull used to convey the Red Wings would have the toughest way to the Cup. I like Don Cherry & Brett Hull so this should be entertaining. Sports have very boring, cliché ridden announcers. I am glad hockey added these 2. They bring a little color, they stir things up. You may not like what they have to say, but they add an entertainment factor.

Guys, the Wings have a terrible time in western Canada. That being said I firmly believe they will win a very hard series in 7 games. The 2 teams in the west that can beat the Wings this year I believe are the Ducks and Sharks. I like Calgary, but I do not believe they have the fire power to beat the Wings. Now of course I said this same thing 2 years ago, but both teams are different from those teams. I also believe all the games will be close and I would like to see the Wings win the first game to set the tone. I know 1 game does not make a series, but you cannot give the Flames an emotional win early.

As I have said before the only reason to go to the "Joe" in the 80's and early 90's wasn't just to see Stevie Y score it was to see Probie & Joey fight. Thank God I have some great Red Wings hockey fights on tape and yes I have the McSorley with Don Cherry commentary.

If 1130 scooped 1270 that means Regner must be working for them or behind the scenes now. Doesn't matter who is working for those stations, because they all got scooped by LGW. This shows if you want to be in the know about hockey this is the place to be. Now let’s hope Datsyuk goes out into the PLAYOFFS and shows why they paid him all that money.

Good News: Hockey Night In Canada to stay on CBC
Doctor G replied to WingedWheelin06's topic in General
: : Best news I have heard all year. I have watched HNIC since I was a kid and hockey would just not be the same. My grandfather was French Canadian so I grew up watching the Habs on channel 54 and the Leafs on 9. He would always interpret what the French announcers were saying. Great memories then and now that I am sharing with my son. Hopefully he and I can share with his son in the future. -
It is always tragic to see anyone carried off the ice. But Fedoruk should not be out there even playing, let alone fighting. I am sure his doctors told him a broken orbital takes a long time to heal. This guy could do some permanent damage to his face structure. Hopefully he will get the message and sit out for a while.

I happen to agree with you on the number retiring numbers issue. I like what Dallas Cowboys do with their ring of fame. Now I am not sure if they retire the number with it. If teams keep retiring numbers they will eventually run out, pretty soon we will see 3 digit numbers. But a team should at acknowledge the accomplishments of great players. Now Vladdy should at least be mention somewhere. Even though his career was cut tragically short, his contributions were outstanding.
