Well now. There goes the last big name. No surprises here. Panic move by Lowe because he couldn't lure anyone else up there. Not surprisingly that they majorly overpaid for one of the worst defensive defenseman in the league.

Eklund had Bill Guerin signed, sealed, and delivered to Detroit at the trade deadline last season. I wouldn't put too much into this right now. He bases these rumors off of nothing, and half of the time, it's just him pulling stuff out of the far corners of either his own ass or his dogs ass. None of it has any actual truth behind it.

St. Louis will be a lot better this year. They made some key signings, and have a lot of good, young prospects coming up too.

Hah! Can't say I'm not surprised there. The leagues two favorite bandwagon teams. Though, with the loss of Drury and Briere, Buffalo may no longer qualify for that catagory. Someone like the Rags will quickly take their place.

That's what I've heard his asking price is, from both TSN and Spectors. Unless you know something they don't, or they were both wrong, that's what I think it is. If Sutton was asking for 4 million also, then I just assume sign neither. Their both ok defenseman, but not worth 4 million a season. That's a bit excessive. I still want Holland to try and find another defenseman out there though. I am not big on the fact that Lilja will be a roster regular again.

Who? Derek Meech? Quincey is the only one who is decent, and NHL ready, right now in GR. He won't get a roster spot anyways, even if Sutton isn't signed. Lilja occupies that spot. And if you honestly think Lilja is better then Sutton, I have lost hope for some of you people. Lilja's "flash of brillance" in the playoffs was more of the "flash in the pan" variety.

Yeah, right. Lilja's two fights came during the lunar eclipse. We won't be seeing that happen again for a while. Ok, I clearly made that up, but you know what I mean. I'd be very surprised to see Lilja ever fight again. He's not very good at it (though he did beat Patrick Sharp, who's not a bad fighter).

Sutton is the only other option left as far as decent defenseman. The fact that he is also demanding less than Markov makes it a better deal. Sigh... looking at the list for other possible defenseman is not very encouraging. For all you Sutton haters out there, here's what else is left. Some of them haven't played in the NHL for quite a while actually. I just basically looked at a free agent list, and whoever was an unsigned defenseman I mentioned up there. Look at the list and decide for yourself. There are a few decent names: Ossi Vaananen, Bryan Berard, Aaron Johnson... and that's about it. A few of those guys I do like, Dan McGillis for example, but he's a dinosaur in the new NHL. He also hasn't played in the NHL since December of '05. Decide for yourself who you like better then Sutton. There isn't much to choose from.

I know what you're getting at, but in Yashin's case, it means nothing. He plays hockey only for the money. Not once in his entire NHL career has the guy shown any desire to win. Why do you think his playoff numbers are so bad? Because playing the playoffs requires hard work, effort, and a desire to win. Those are three qualities that Yashin does not have. Again, like I said: Yashin doesn't care about winning or playing for a top team. He'll go to wherever and whichever team pays him the most money, whether it be in the NHL or the Russian Super League.

I would like that. There is a good chance it could happen, since Knuble is a former Wing (and we all know how Kenny feels about that ). Seriously though, Knuble would be a great pickup. A scoring winger for the 2nd line is exactly what this team is in dire need of right now. I'd love it if Kenny made a trade like that. You could also throw Hudler and Kopecky in there for good measure, while we're at it.

Considering he finished the season with 64 points, and was still a -28, that shows you something is wrong. Souray sucks ass defensivily, and to be honest, is not near worth 3-4 million a season. In other words, Souray is lazy and he sucks™

See, that would be a good example and all, if Yashin wasn't the player involved. I can't believe people still want this guy here. Like I said before: I believe that more than half of the people who want Yashin on the Wings are going more off of his point totals than the way he plays. If anyone who wants him here had actually ever seen him play, you wouldn't want him here.

Sutton is bigger, more physical, isn't afraid to drop the gloves, just as good offensivly, and has a cheaper asking price than Markov. Overall he's a much better pickup.

And is just as good offensivly, and not as injury prone.

Thank God. I can sleep at night knowing Yashin will not be coming here. Only problem is that it sounds like signings are done. Since Markov is being greedy about this whole contract thing (IMO Markov is, no way in hell, a 4 million dollar player), why not sign Andy Sutton? He's asking for the exact same amount Markov made last season, and I personally think he's better.

Exactly one of the best thing to come out of it. Maltby, as much as I like the guy, is dead weight in the lineup without a fighter to do the dirty work for him. We all know his reputation of running away from fights (mainly because he can't really fight himself).

Wow, that would be great. Too bad it's just wishful thinking though. Here's another situation. It's probably just as much wishful thinking, but I'll give it a shot: I think that, given the right roster moves, the Wings could dump these scrubs like Kopecky, and sign McCarty to be the teams #13 forward. He then goes out, improves his conditioning, proves that he can stay healthy, and eventually works his way back onto the main roster. He then continues to improve his strength, and becomes a full time fighter again. The fans then return to the Joe, the Wings win the Stanley Cup, McCarty can retire the next year or keep playing if he plays good and stays healthy, and all is good with the world. As I said, mine is probably just as much wishful thinking. But hey, it's worth a shot, isn't it?
