Holland already said he'll offer Chelios a contract if he wants to continue playing. Even with the logjam, Holland still feels Chelios can serve a role here (which, to a certain extent, he does). Having a expulsion of defenseman is not really a bad thing anyways. Just imagine if we would have had more players to insert in the lineup due to injury during the 2007 playoffs.

Emery is garbage. Any team that even considers taking a chance on him after his antics last season will be desperation (or stupidity) in it's finest form. Oh, and if any of you are still interested in sending a letter to John Paddock, you'll want to address that to "Under the Bus" which is exactly where Ray Emery threw him.

If MAB can fetch a 3rd round pick, than Meech should snag a 1st. In my mind, I'd rather see Lebda moved out of all of them. He actually played decent for us in the playoffs, but I still think his role on the team is redundant now that Meech and Quincey are both NHL ready. Not to mention Ericsson will be up in a few years, and Chelios has already stated he's coming back next season (and, it's possible more after that). I think we might see at least one of them traded, but not for a while. If the roster is still in a logjam at the mid-season point, then that's when we'll see a deal made.

I thought in Ottawa he was called "Cashin Yashin".

Quincey and Meech have both been here longer, though. That's what I was basing it off of.

Anyone have a video?

Ericsson wasn't going to be on the roster next season anyways. You're all forgetting that Quincey and Meech are both higher on the senority list, and neither can clear waivers. Bringing back Chelios in a limited role will not hurt the team; he can share minutes with the young guys, and mentor them into better players. Not that I really think anything of Lebda, but he is somewhat better now than he was initially. Chelios helped him along, which he can more than likely do with better players like Meech or Quincey. Plus, with Chelios coming back, this pretty much solidifies Lilja's future, which is not here. Which, you know, is great.

If the Wings sign any goaltender, backup or not, I'd rather it be someone fairly young. We don't need another grandfather clock playing goalie. Really though, in all honesty, hasn't Howard been here long enough to finally deserve a shot? I mean, maybe it's just me, but it would be nice if the Wings actually developed a goaltender within the system again. The last goalie to be drafted by the Wings, and actually play a meaningful role on the Wings, is... Osgood. Yeah, it's been that long. The names that are being thrown around, I.E. Kolzig, Lalime, Thibault, etc. etc., are choices that people are mentioning just for the sake of mentioning names. The only goaltender really worth anything in free agency, in my opinion anyways, would be Dan Ellis, but that's out of the question. So, since there really is nobody better, Howard is the obvious choice.

Todd's a great guy, and I hold nothing against him for making his decision. Obviously I would have rather had him stay here, but he's doing what in his best interest. Good luck.

Quincey. He has all the tools to be a great all around defenseman. His best asset is his physical play, something that we could always use more of back on the blueline. Meech is basically another Lebda, but slower. He played decent when he got his chance last season, but really, I'm not a big fan of him. I'd rather see Quincey get a shot first.

I think he could have gone another year as backup, but it's probably best that he didn't. His age and injury history really showed this year. Plus, Howard is ready to come up next season. Thanks for everything, Dom. Best of luck to you.

But what about Malkin?!?!1

I always preferred Letterman myself, but whatever.

Hanta Yo Baby! If it were anyone but the Leafs, I'd say he has the credentials to do enough to at least get the team into the playoffs again (but probably fail miserably every year like in San Jose), but given the state of that organization, I just can't say that. Unless the ownership ever decides to release it's iron grip on roster management and other team functions, that team will never go anywhere. Regardless, I'm still happy to see Wilson get a job again. His comments after a loss, and that blank ghost-like expression on his face behind the bench are classic.

I really hope Stuart does come back, because he such an important part of this team. Recent interviews with him indicate that he might re-sign, so we'll see what happens.

To keep Ericsson on the roster next year, unless he's absolutley ready or for sure would get a regular spot on the team, would be ridiculous. As evidence of the 2007 playoffs, and last February, it never hurts to have capable defenseman that can step in for injury. Guys like Chelios, Meech, Quincey (whoever doesn't play regularly out of the three), and say another depth defenseman not named Andreas Lilja would be a great thing to have. You can't rely on inexpierenced rookies to step in and play seamlessly if the regulars go down. As I said earlier, it's important first off that Babcock, Zetterberg, Franzen, and Stuart are all re-signed. After that, other options can be looked at for depth. We'll see what happens come this summer.
-
Sign Babcock, Zetterberg, and Franzen all to extensions. Re-sign Stuart long-term. Re-sign McCarty and Downey for cheap contracts. Re-sign Chelios for depth. Sign maybe a depth player to add some more forward depth up-front in case of injuries. Sign another depth defenseman as well, as it never hurts to have depth on the blueline. All in all, unlike years past, I really don't want the Wings to be that active once free agency starts. The big thing, for me, is that they lock up all of the important pieces on the taem right now that need contracts. Babcock is the best coach in the league, Zetterberg is the best all around player in the league, and Franzen has shown his ability to be a true goal scorer on this team. All of these need to be extended as soon as possible. Stuart is a must to re-sign as well; his role on this team had a tremendous impact these playoffs. If all that is done, then we are looking in great shape for next season. I can't wait!

This just further proves that Detroit fans are the greatest in the world, no matter what the media says. Detroit is Hockeytown. None of these other loser markets like Minnesota or whatever even come close. We have the greatest hockey fans, and the greatest sports fans in general, in the world.

I was at the parade, and it was such an amazing thing to expierence. I'm probably in trouble for taking off work that day on such short notice, but, oh well. If I can get my photo scanner working, I'll post the pictures I took.

Reem, you were at Joe Vision? I'm so jealous. How was it, by the way? -
Thanks everyone for what was yet another fantastic season of Red Wings hockey. Matt, keep up the great work on running what is, in my opinion, the greatest fan forum on the internet.

I'll always be biased for Chelios, so it stands to reason that I'm fine with this move. He's a great guy, and really, is still an effective player in certain roles. In a limited role, say as a 6/7 defenseman, how can it hurt? He's a million times better than Lilja.

Too bad Ken Kal is under the weather tonight on the WXYT postgame, but it's nice to hear from Ken Daniels again, who's filling in. We are lucky to have such great broadcasters here in Detroit. What a great night! LETS GO RED WINGS!!!!!!!!!!
